We offer this pre-order discount just once each year.  JRiver Media Center 25 will be available in about two months (we'll let you know).  Early builds will improve on MC24, and MC25 will continue to improve throughout the year.

Please pre-order by March 20th to get our best special upgrade prices:

Windows Upgrade (https://jriver.com/purchase_25_as_upgrade.html)  (Direct Link)

Mac Upgrade (https://jriver.com/purchase_25_mac_as_upgrade.html)

Linux Upgrade (https://www.jriver.com/purchase_25_linux_as_upgrade.html)

Master License Upgrade (https://jriver.com/purchase_25_master_as_upgrade.html)    (for Windows, Mac, and Linux)

You can upgrade, at these prices, from any previous version of JRiver Media Center, all the way back to MC10.  Please see Upgrade Help (https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,114521.0.html) for how to recover an old license you may have.

These licenses work with MC24 now and will work with MC25 when it is available.  Your data from your older version of MC will be converted automatically.

Upgrade Help (https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,114521.0.html) on the JRiver forum will step you through the process.

MC24 was a big hit and we have ambitious plans for MC25, and we think you'll be pleased.

To get the best price of the year on MC25. please pre-order now.

If you have never purchased MC, just download (https://www.jriver.com/download.html) and purchase MC24.  You will receive an MC25 license that works with both versions.  When MC25 is available, you can just download and install it.

Thank You!  Your continued support means a lot to the JRiver team!  It gives us the ability to continually refine the product and an opportunity to provide you a product of consistently high quality.

Best regards,

JRiver

It would be great to update us on the possible features of JRiver Media Center 25 before we decide if we want to upgrade from the previous versions or not.

Another upgrade to pay for in less than 12 months, hang on, this would be the 3rd in less than eighteen months I would have bought.  Are you trying to copy Apple with a new product every year.

Uhhh, major MC updates are released every year. It's been nearly a year since MC24 was announced, so it makes sense. Look what MC24 accomplished within that year (https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,114527.0.html).

Also, there's no requirement that says users have to purchase upgrades. If you don't want to upgrade and you're satisfied with the version you're using now, then don't upgrade as your current version of MC will still work just fine.

If a user decides to upgrade, then you're supporting the ongoing development of JRiver Media Center. Though, it's probably still a little too early for them to talk about feature plans for MC25 until they get a little further long in the development. But, if you're even considering the upgrade, I'd consider doing it now during the early bird special. Why? Well a situation might arise where later on in the MC25 development cycle an appealing feature (or features) lands in MC25 but the upgrade is at the full cost whereas with the early bird special you save money AND support the development. But, I do understand the wait and see approach for potential upgraders. Personally? I like to support the development so it was a no-brainer. I can't wait to see what comes in MC25! :D

It took me a millisecond to decide and a few minutes for processing the order. I trust the MC Team.

Same here. As long as the program and quality stays this good, I have no problem upgrading and supporting jriver.

Hi Guys,
Yes I'll upgrade if MC25 is available and supported for my platform which is the Id.
The Id seems to be treated as a separate platform and left off the main stream Windows/Unix/Mac platforms - why is this?

Keep up the good work but let me know the answer to the above asap so I can order (or not) as the case may be.

Regards

That's right, the Id is a separate platform consisting of physical hardware and a custom OS with MC that has its own special license built-in (and it's all maintained by JRiver), so it doesn't use normal licenses (e.g. Master or Linux licenses). Thus far the Id has got several major MC updates at no extra cost, just the cost of the initial device. Not sure if that trend is going to continue or not with MC25, so that's up to JRiver. I've actually been thinking about getting an Id myself at some point. Not only do I think it'd be fun to tinker with (and maintain a NAS library with), I'd also like to have a crack at making a MC skin for the Fluxbox desktop environment it uses. :P

I would like some sort of list of possible new features before I pre-order. That being said, if I see a feature I want after it's been released, I have no problem paying full price to get it, since JRiver is such a good product and company.

Hi guys,

have just updated from MediaCenter 23 to 25, paid the 19.98USD but when I try to activate the new keycode a message with "Your license is for a different product".

Could you please PM me so that this issue can be cleared up?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Cleared up... My bad! I have downloaded the 24 version, installed it and given the registration key for the 25-V version.

Everthing's fine now.  ;D ;D ;D

Can we run the .mjr now so the licence will already be loaded in the registry upon release ?

If you're using the latest build of MC24, sure, you can use the MC25 license now. I'm not sure, but it *might* carry over if you do a library backup from MC24 to MC25 once released.

MC has a great track record, and I have upgraded every version since MJ6, I think.  However, I agree it would be nice if there were some more specific feature roadmap information provided with the upgrade offer. That said, maybe the 30% discount is meant to incentivize a more leap of faith type purchase.

I tried to early upgrade (God knows I tried) but your payment website procedure kept refusing my previous password. It asked me to create a new password, and immediately refused them (I tried twice more). It seems I am destined to sit out this upgrade. Why do you make it so difficult to upgrade?

I do not see a way to do this. If you want up to buy the upgrade please make it easier.

You don't need to buy, but it does help fund our development.  Who knows when you'll want something we've been working on?

I looked up your license.  You purchased MC24 seven months ago.  MC25 won't be out until April, so that's ten months from your purchase date.

Again, we appreciate the help, but understand you may have other priorities.

Thanks, I am aware your kind of subscription model. I just wanted clarification that there will be no new features to MC24 and public MC25 will be released in April.

Which upgrade?  Which license?

Jim, I currently have a license for MC 24. I received the email that was sent out.  "Media Center 25 -- Pre-order Now for the Best Price of the Year"   I tried to buy the upgrade and received the message that I posted in my previous post. I tried to buy the upgrade from the direct link that was in the email. Why must this be so hard??? I really want to support JRiver.

It's not a subscription unless you want it to be.  You could have bought MC10 or MC11, then waited a decade to upgrade to MC25.

Seriously Jim? I have a Windows 24 license and my post said I tried to purchase the upgrade to media center 25. So I get that you couldn't look me up by my email because that might incur an upgrade charge. But this is your issue, not mine, and it means I won't be upgrading.

But also have no problem paying full price later if I see 25 has options I miss in 24.

Jim, thanks for look in to this. I tried the link you posted and it worked. I was able to buy the update. I still had the other link opened and tried it again and still got the error message. I did cut and paste my MC 24 license into both links So I do not know why it would not work before.

I do not feel that you guys need to apologize, You do a great job of keeping this great site and program running. This is one of the best sites I have ever been on for helping members with issues. Hi.  I've been buying the upgrades for several years in a row now.  I'm using it 90% on Mac and continue to feel like we're the poor step-children :)

Please, please, please finally get  MC for Mac to support OSX's full-screen mode.  There have been several threads asking about this over the years  with no results.

I usually but every single upgrade, but I must admit I am thinking abit more about it this time, v24 hasn't brought that much of interest to me. The team usually does great work, but the focus this time around has made it somewhat less tempting. Don't know if i represent the average user though.

I've struck the same problem as 1maynard.
I follow your links to: https://jriver.com/purchase_25_master_as_upgrade.html
Paste in my current registration code (MC24 Master licence) and get to page: https://rover.jriver.com/cgi-bin/buy.cgi?productid=88&upgradeonly=1
which says Please use the program to initiate purchase.

I'm on MacOS 10.13 and tried it with both Safari and Firefox.

Over to you guys...
Brian

FWIW for all those who doubt the value:
I've been using Media Centre since about V10, when it was called something else ("Media Player"?, I forget:). In all that time I've not seen a better tool for both managing and playing my music collection. I'm retired, on a fixed (small) income and still feel it's worth the annual upgrade payment.
Keep up the good work, guys!!
B

Tried to buy the upgrade and when I click on the windows upgrade direct link it takes me to a page to enter my registration code. when I click the purchase media center 25 windows it goes to a page that says (Please use the program to initiate purchase.) I do not see a way to do this. If you want up to buy the upgrade please make it easier.

It has not been released yet (pre-order state). Estimated to be released in April. If you have recent MC24 you can just run that .mjr file and it will register MC25 for you even though you don't have the actual product yet. When MC25 is released you just download it and start using it (as you have already registered earlier with the mjr-file ).

I have a license for 25, received "Media Center25 Windows-447389.mjr" in an email, ungraded my license, but can't find a download for 25.  Has it been released yet?  If not, what's it's release date?  I see "Pre-order Now" in the texts, but no link for it.
This explains more:

Yep. Just make sure you're using the latest build (latest build for Windows is 24.0.73). :)

I just purchased upgrade to MC25, I received a new registration code.
My JRiver player is still titled MC24. Will this change automatically in April?

My 2nd question is I am offered a new key code, but when I try to download the file in the email, I get:
A license for your JRiver software has been automatically installed. You will see instructions for installing it on other computers in a separate browser window (probably behind this one). To save it, right click on the link and use the "Save As" option.
Nothing available. Albeit all my players are working, am I to assume everything kicks in, in April?

Once MC25 is released, you'll have to download and install it. Each major MC version is separate from each other, meaning you can have multiple versions of MC installed on the same PC at the same time (e.g. MC23 + MC24 + MC25).

Personally, when a new major MC version is released I do a library backup of the major version of MC I'm currently running, uninstall it completely, install the new major version of MC and restore the library backup in it. That way only the "latest and greatest" remains.

There is probably either a typo in your Registration Code or spaces before or after.

Thanks, Jim, that was the case.
Unfortunately the error message is particularly misleading:-(

early in this thread a logical request was made for an explanation of the improvements available in MC25.

Did I miss something or are there no significant improvements in MC25?

Well, to be honest, I'm not sure (as I don't work for JRiver) but I don't think they know or decided specifically what's going to be in MC25 just yet, hence why a roadmap/list of improvements hasn't been posted. They might have an idea on what they want to do, but whether or not they'll be able to add it is another story. It's still early in the development cycle so I'm guessing they're just getting an idea of what they want to add and accomplish during the development cycle. If they posted a list of what they've got done so far, it'd seemingly be a small list and that wouldn't accurately reflect their plans for MC25. There's still time before the projected public release (early April) so things can change before then and now. But the list of new features will increase before now and then. Look at the last couple development cycles for MC. Features were added during throughout the entire development cycles length of time.

The point I'm trying to make is, the development cycle is still in the early days, the roadmap/list of improvement plans isn't set in stone and they likely haven't decided what features are going to be added to MC25. Posting a roadmap or a list of planned features right now might raise expectations too much, especially if a specific feature on the roadmap isn't added during the MC25 development cycle due to whatever reason(s).

Finally, again I'm just guessing, but when MC25's public release is near they might post a "New in MC25" post listing some of the new features and modify that as new features are added.

Upgraded immediately as usual. My thinking is that $20/yr "subscription" is well worth the money to support JRiver. Been here since....MC13(?). MC24 did not offer a great deal of new things for me personnaly. But fixing WDM driver was a big thing, and the sum of all small things is usually good. Especially since JRiver seem to keep the application stable, and do not tend to break old features with new ones.

I just got the registration code for MC 25. The system tells me it has been installed, but when I click on Registration Info in MC, it still shows MC 24. I realize MC 25 isn't released yet, but shouldn't this notification have changed to something else?

This stuff always confuses me. Sorry! Please advise. Thanks.

Can I request a feature to switch output sources quickly instead of going through menu, good for A/B comparison between two DACs.
Also to play audio track embedded within a video to any sources or zones, while playing the video in JRiver main screen.

I think the point is that, IF you do not upgrade, you save the whole price...not just the discount amount.
When my SO says they got something, not needed, on sale, I explain they would have saved the whole amount if not bought at all.
I too have been using MC for many years and think it is a well thought out product but am reluctant to pay for enhancements that will likely never be used.

I've been very happy with JRiver and the knowledge that I don't have to upgrade to keep using a very stable piece of software. Like others, it feels more like a donation given in appreciation, as I don't think I need an upgrade yet...JRiver does what I need it to.

Whatever,.... as I'm fortunate enough to be working and have some spare money at the end of the month, this upgrade price represents good value for money. I want to know that the company can keep going to develop the software for when I do need the upgrade.

is there a version history / change log for all the versions so i can see whats been added/changed for each version?

i couldnt find anything obvious from the FAQ page but maybe i just missed it?

note - im not talking about v25 specifically, i mean all the versions/releases.  i've got v21 because i only use MC for my music files stored locally so havent updated for a couple of years as it does all i need it to.  i dont need all the bells and whistles, but i cant even find a list of all the bells and whistles to see if theres anything in the newer versions that i might want to play around with, which seems odd as they must be listed somewhere, either that or people are only buying this on word of mouth or the suck it and see approach.

Why can we not choose to stream in  AAC-HE?  Or even just AAC 128k   It is far and above a much better option than MP3 for quality at lower bitrates, and practically any device should have the CPU power to decode it these days.  I know I'm no the only one who has asked for it, and I hate to beat a dead horse..   But we were even told at one point AAC streaming support was being worked on -   so where is it?

If I recall correctly, MC doesn't have a AAC encoder yet.

Just a comment in defense of JRiver's approach. If you don't use a lot of software, you may not be aware that more and more companies have moved to a subscription model, either monthly or annually or both. Office 365 and Adobe CC are the most well-known (and expensive).

JRiver charges a yearly fee for each new version, but allows you to keep the versions you've purchased in the past, which is not the case with many of the major software companies.

Most significantly, every year JRiver offers a generous pre-release discount on the new version. This may not be unique, but it's rare.

Very often the new features aren't useful to me. Since I bought my TCL 4K Roku TV, I use Plex for most of my movie and TV show libraries because of the built-in app. I still use MC every day, though, for my music libraries and for other features that Plex doesn't have.

I believe in paying for software I use regularly, whether it's an outright purchase or a donation for freeware, and I feel that everyone who can afford it should do the same. Most developers don't make a ton of money for their work, and at JRiver users can communicate directly with the team. All in all, we get a lot for our modest (optional) annual investment. If you disagree, don't upgrade. Negative comments in this thread are both unnecessary and irritating.

Thanks for the link!
I parsed the v24 release notes to just show new features since I was curious if I use - or even know about - any of them.

One distressing things I noticed is that there hasn't been a Mac version release note since MC19 and NONE of the 120+ items below mention Macs.

Here's the ones that have been of interest to me:

Would pay for upgrade for these features:
-none-

Will probably use:
5. NEW: Added a toolbar button to add selected files to Playing Now.
4. NEW: Added a "Move Up" and "Move Down" button to the playlist view header that allows moving a selection up or down in the list.
2. NEW: Links to individual playlists can be added to the toolbar.
6. NEW: Added the option General > Behavior > Remove files from Playing Now after they are played.
2. NEW: Quick Play will shuffle the files that are being played if Ctrl is held down.
3. NEW: Playback from library server will issue a wake request before starting playback to wake a sleeping server.
7. NEW: Better multi-zone syncing. Work in progress.

Interesting and might check out:
2. NEW: The playlist upload feature (including songs) is now available to any registered Media Center user. It's called "Upload to Cloud" on the right-click menu for playlists.
3. NEW: Tag-writing for MP4/m4a audio files will use Apple's extensible tagging format if the files already contain such tags.
14. NEW: Added the option "Advance to the next track when stopping after the current track" which defaults to true but allows you to turn it off.
4. NEW: You can right-click a column and pick "Remove Column From Sorting" to keep the rest of the sort order but remove that single column.

Based on this and lack of requested Mac updates for 2 1/2 years now (https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/board,45.0.html), I think I'll pass on upgrading and just watch upcoming release notes to see if there's anything I'm interested in before getting a new version.

 David

Release Notes MC24

1. NEW: MC will import data from Sony modd sidecar files for videos uploaded from cameras/camcorders/phones using Sony's PlayMemories Home software.

1. NEW: Added the expression function FilePlaylists() to return a list of playlist names a file is in.

yes, I believe that was my whole point  :P

I know JRiver uses ffmpeg, but do they compile their own version?     According to the ffmpeg trac there is one library available that can do aac-he,  however it's not GPL compatible so there are no binaries /  you have to compile ffmpeg from source.    Maybe this can be looked into then?   idk

Upgrade purchased, not grumpy. Although I rarely use JRiver mc for Windows, now that I have the Idpi.
If I can work out streaming from windows jriver to my idpi I'll be happy.

I just plunked my money down but before I install the new version on my Windows x64 do I run the risk of messing up my current setup?  If so, what should I do in case I need to recover from a failed upgrade?

Thank you.

Just install MC24 and restore your MC25 license.

From the license page:
If you previously purchased MC for Mac or Windows, and it is installed and licensed, you will see a reduced price when you purchase a Master License.

I purchased the MC25 license and tried to apply the .mjr file to two of my PCs on which MC24 newest version worked.
I did it correctly on the first one, but could not do on the second one.
The message I came across said "The license file is for different version."
The actual message was in Japanese, and it might not be exactly correct.
A strange phenomenon was that the MC24 windows open in a very small size, not the same size as that in its previous run.
Shall I uninstall MC24 first?
I do not want to do so because I have made several customization.

Thank you in advance.

Most Windows changes also affect Mac versions.

Yes, but there's been lots of Windows-only features (e.g. TV stuff) but what Mac-specific features in MC24?  How hard is it to implement full-screen?  And get most MacOS keyboard shortcuts to work when editing tags?

Hi,
I just read through this thread. Maybe I'm a hopeless fanboy but I don't know anything else that let's me manage 200k of files as efficiently as this. JRiver has accommodated all, of my decades long obsession, with storing music. When  I moved to a slow NAS they made the ASIO buffering work for some of my HUGE DSD files to play through my DAC's without a whimper. I tried ROON and a couple of others and none of them did it for me.

I upgraded to MC 25 for the discount without a thought.

I have one question, how to i get rid of the "nag" screen that continues to offer me the discount desipite my installation of MC license key.

It would be great to update us on the possible features of JRiver Media Center 25 before we decide if we want to upgrade from the previous versions or not.

Sorry if I have missed the answer to this, but can someone direct me?

My first thought on getting the email about the upgrade to MC25 was, 'what is the difference?'. I've tried looking but can't find anything that shows screen shots, or lists changes.

Other users seem to be asking the same questions.

Does anyone know where you can find details on MC25?.

Maybe some old versions, MC23, MC22, etc., still installed on them, cause the trouble.

I have been upgrading MC for years. All I really want is for it to scrape relevant information for TV and movie files automatically. It says it does it but it is highly unreliable. For intstance, "Last Man Standing", a very popular and current US sitcom, populates with information about a BBC unreality show from a decade ago.

Also, about once a month, starting MC triggers a new installation populated with the old Van Gogh paintings. I love Van Gogh, but not as a background.

I would like to remove many of the theater mode menu items but cannot. For instance, under the submenu "Audio", I would like to have Pandora, Spotify and  Amazon Music but it appears all I may have is my own music collection. Annoying.

Are any of these fixed in 25 without me needing to geek-out?

In update of Media Center 24 was made a change:

24.0.59 (10/24/2018)

1. Changed: When viewing a playlist group, the files will be ordered according to the child playlists (instead of all lumped together). Just set the view to have no sorting and it will show the playlist order.
2. Changed: Made the default sorting for a playlist group no sorting so it just shows the child playlists in order.

So, by clicking the group icon you are basically saying show me everything in each of the playlists in this grouping - thus you will see the same file duplicated if it is in more than one of the playlists in that group.

We use player for live performance of the band.
We have Playlist grup of all songs. In this group are playlists for different occasions (wedding, birthday,..jazz, rock,..). So in group view, you can se one file in five, six.. lines…

It si very inconveniant. Player became almost useless for use.

I would like to buy new version (we are buying new versions for more than 10 years), but if it will stay like this, we will have to use Version 23...

Is it possible to make this view as OPTION in settings? If so, we are in!

Regards,

Tomaz

Sure thing.  Next build of MC25:
Changed: Added the option to "Show playlist groups as collection" to Options > General > Advanced to show the collection of files instead of the individual sum of all the files.

Yes, it is understood that MC25 is not available for several months... In fact we bought a license MC25, applied on a version of MC24, for which, we had already bought the license in 2018.... Interesting the concept of marketing..

"Turn off Check for Updates in the Help Menu." is not the answer for me.

I don't recall the nag screen problem (once registered for the upcoming version) on any of the prior versions of MC (or am I just dreaming ?).

Can someone come up with a real fix for this problem?

Title: Benefits of upgrading to MC25?
Post by: yukibarr on January 26, 2019, 05:45:51 am
I currently use my JRiver MC v21  :o to 'drive the music on my NAS to my SoTM sMS 200 ultra streamer.  I run my system in this configuration to eliminate EMI (or at least part of it) that is generated by my PC that's running JRiver MC. I can hear a fair improvement in sound quality as a result but the flip-side is that I may missing out on some of the features that MC offers.  So I am wondering what additional features and improvements could I benefit from if I upgrade to v25, in my setup?

This Question is for JRiver MC management.

I use your MC player actually your free one Jukebox right now am seriously thinking about purchasing MC version ,I  have been in a band for 30 yrs and do some Djing on the side and i use your media player because it by far sounds the best, i am a sound guy, i know good sound.

I was wondering if you were ever considering adding features or planning on making a player that is more Dj friendly. I know there are other players out there but i love your DSP's they are the best , although your graphic EQ could be beefed up more meaning add more frequencies to it.

What i have a hard time with and i am no expert using this player or all of its features, Is when you make a list and you want to switch around songs here and there to keep things moving on the dance floor etc., it will not let you go out of the original order when you move a track up or down in that previously made list and get it to play next unless you manually click on it and you have to have good timing or sometimes it doesnt take right away and starts playing the original song that was in that numbered spot so as a Dj doing a event you can imagine how that goes.

Unless there is some way to make it do it that i don not know about. Also it would be nice to be able to pull up 2 players at the same time  or have the ability set up like a  double Dj controller where you can fade from one side to the other, i personally am not looking for the mixing controls ect where you can scratch and sample ect. Like i said i use it and deal with it because of the quality of the sound i can produce with your player and DSP features that are quality audiophile grade. I can make ok speakers sound very good with them . Your product is outstanding and i am planing on making use of other features such as the video media when i start using TV monitors for events. Thanks in advance for your reply

Try using zones (please see the wiki).  You can use one for trying tracks and another for playing.  Ctrl-T toggles between zones.

seems most of the current (and future?) work revolves around video, radio, and music server features and fixes that I am sure some people have a use for but not me.  There are a few long long time bugs especially on the Mac platform that I wish they would squash.  To be honest I am really not sure why I upgrade each year but I guess I am just always hoping something good gets added or fixed.

The notification is part of the Automatic Update Channels. You can Disable Automatic Update in Tools > Startup > Update Channels. You can still manually check for updates using Ctrl + J. However, this will then trigger the message about a new version if there is no update available for MC24. When manually checking, I believe it still uses your choice of Stable or Latest.

I have bought a normal licence for JRiver Media Center Version 23 (Windows), after I had previously bought a licence for Version 21. Because the Version 24 was released a few time after that purchase date, I could update to 24. Now my version was deactivated. I had to re-install Version 23 but lost round about 20 CDs I had ripped before. That was a reason to update now to 24 to regain my old entries, which I couldn't save by the zipped libraries. I had to pay $26,98 USD and got a Media Center 24 Version. According to my Paypal Invoice I have ordered a 25 master licence. Instead I am working with a 24 Version. When I want to upgrade I have to pay anew 19.98 $.

I had to pay $26,98 USD and got a Media Center 24 Version. According to my Paypal Invoice I have ordered a 25 master licence. Instead I am working with a 24 Version. When I want to upgrade I have to pay anew 19.98 $.
MC24 works with an MC25 license now. MC25 builds will be available soon.  You will receive an email with instructions.
