Title: MO 4Media - remote control and player (Windows 10, UWP)
Post by: cncb on January 28, 2019, 01:32:51 pm
This is the Windows/UWP app version of MO 4Media.  It is like the Android version but is remote control and device audio and basic video playback only (no casting or downloads).  I am only able to test it on a Windows 10 PC.  The ARM version is included in the bundle but I don't know if it will work or install on these devices.  It is free to use.  I don't currently plan to add any more to this version of the app or put it in the Windows Store.

Download from Google Drive (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1PaPbcocKcTzd6HTZvvEcSRTM0SR6BMid/view?usp=sharing) (the 39MB file is too big for an attachment to this post)

To install/sideload on a Windows 10 PC:
1- Go to Windows Settings | Update & Security | For Developers and make sure Sideload apps is selected
2- Unzip downloaded file, open Explorer and navigate to unzipped directory
3- Right-click .cer file, select Install Certificate
4- Select Local Machine, Next
5- Select Place all certificates in the following store
6- Select Browse and select Trusted Root Certification Authorities
7- Select Next and then Finish to install certificate
8- Double-click .appxbundle file to install app

If you want to connect to MC on the same PC, run the following at the command prompt (Admin privileges required):
Code: [Select]
CheckNetIsolation LoopbackExempt -a -n="4f262a20-6acc-418e-b408-19e37e39d071_m9xqadxmj9t0r"
Notes:
- If connected via ethernet, the "Mobile" conversion settings are used.
- The cover art is not displayed in the media control popup that is shown when you use the media keys on your keyboard (not sure why since I think I am specifying it correctly)

Thanks for this cncb.

I'm excited to get this running on my Surfaces.

I also have 2 windows phones that I will try out.

Hopefully this week as I'm ridiculously busy these days.

Is that an ARM cpu or standard Intel?

I have the latest version running on my surface. It was easy to install and running great. Thank you.

I tried to install on my Lumia 950 XL but had no luck. Certificate installed fine. When installing the app I was prompted to install, I selected Yes, but then nothing happened. Just sharing the info, I'm not super concerned about it not running on my phone as I will be buying a new Android tablet soon for the sole purpose of being a remote for MC. I am happy to test more if it helps though.

Thanks for the report.  I got rid of my Windows phones a while ago so I can't troubleshoot.  Sorry, I don't plan to spend any time on getting it working for Windows 10 Mobile especially since they are dropping support for it soon.

My tablet is Intel i5, 4 gab Ram, 128 ssd

It loaded fine and works fine so far, I haven’t had much chance to play yet

Works as advertised!

No real complaints, one suggestion may be to have bigger thumbnails, even on large they are a bit small, on MC std view I have it set to 5 across

I’ll keep using when I use my Win 10 tablet , along with JRemote on iOS

Not to be rude, I do prefer the look and feel of JRemote, maybe familiarity but it’s cleaner and more varied in colors ec

If there's nothing in your downloads folder on your PC, then something in the browser must be blocking it.  The downloads count on the website has increased by a lot today, suggesting that the downloads are happening.

Thank you for creating and updating the windows version. It's great to have.

Something I have been recently trying is to use Panel and MO 4Media as a touch screen interface for MC running on the same PC.
With MO 4Media this works if I am connected to a network and I use localhost:52199. I can't get it to connect using an access key or if I am not connected to a network. Panel on the other hand works fine when not connected to a network using localhost:52199 or 127.0.0.1:52199.

Is using MO 4Media without a network connection possible?

Thanks

Did you run the "CheckNetIsolation" command at the command prompt as described in the first post?

Edit:  Nevermind, I understand now that it is just without a network connection when it is not working.  I will look into it

I uploaded a new version (v1.2.1) that should allow you to connect to the localhost when no network connection is available.  Note that the access key will not work if you have no network connection because it will not be able to contact the JRiver servers.

I installed the certificate as instructed, but upon attempting installation, I still get the following error:

Code: [Select]
Either a new certificate must be installed for this app package or you need a new app package with trusted certificates. Your system administrator or the app developer can help. A certificate chain was processed but terminated in a root certificate that isn't trusted (0x800B0109)

Sorry, not sure why you are getting that.  Make sure you are running an account with administrator access and you have enabled sideloading properly.

This is a great little app!  Already a happy customer of the Android App.  I have my main JRiver on an HTPC that is piped thru my whole house audio setup and the windows app is great in 2 rooms where I basically use it to manipulate the Playing Now on the HTPC.
Thanks for this!

I uploaded a new version (v1.3.0) that includes the recent Android changes including playlist editing.  I also added basic local video playback.  Note that you need to disable conversion for video ("Mobile Video" if you are using ethernet) if you want to be able to seek although you might not hear audio depending on the codec (e.g. DTS).

I'm using MO 4Media on Android and iOs, love it but can't install on Windows 10. Every time I try, I get a message that the certificate has expired. is it possible to add an updated certificate? Is there a work-around?

Please try again with the new version uploaded to Google Drive.  This is v1.4.0 which includes an updated certificate and the ability to have multiple "device" zones.  Anyone updating from an older version will have to install the new certificate as described in the first post.

Sorry for the delay.  It is now available with an updated certificate.

Thank you very much indeed. It works very well and with a Surface Pro and touchscreen it will be easier to use than MC when in a plane or a car.
Please note that for loopback the UWP name has changed and I have been successfull with using in windows power shell instead of the command in the first post

CheckNetIsolation LoopbackExempt -a -n="4f262a20-6acc-418e-b408-19e37e39d071_sck028q6wj2n4"

And then for the local JRiver use 127.0.01:52199

On the surface pro. I can use my fingers for almost everything but I cannot navigate into long lists. For that I need the keyboard touchpad. So I will keep on using MC cinema view although I find it not so finger friendly.

Sometimes their is a kind of a cursor on the right that allow to get up and down but I don't know how to get this cursor to appear without a keyboard. You can see on the photo there is no cursor.

No it doesn't work.

I will try to fix it, but in the meantime you can try the "jump to" function which may show the scroll bar.  Tap the magnifying glass at the top right of the list.  Type in a character and then tap the search icon to jump to the first entry starting with that character.

Unfortunately the jump to function doesn't show the scroll bar. However as soon as I put back the keyboard it's enough to bring the mouse in the MO 4Media window to initiate the scroll bar and move it with the finger.

Dune used it's own OS and also Andrdoid 9 for apps. So you load the app on Android 9. Is it possible to tell MO 4 Media to use the player from Dune?

Only if it is registered as an Android app that can play video.  You can enable "Use external player for video" in the MO settings and see what is available when you go to play a video in MO.

Still another playlist option request:
"Remove from list (from here)"

More flexible would be:
"Remove from list (pick endpoint from here)"
which would return you to the playlist in order to select the endpoint of the range for immediate removal (may need a confirmation popup to avoid accidents).

In MC Overview or MC Player views there is really no need for this special action since it is so easy, in the usual way, to <SHIFT><LMB> select contiguously, or <CTRL><LMB> select non-contiguously, and then delete all selections in one shot.  But in MO 4Media I don't see any way to accomplish these actions, other than deleting one entry at a time.  Am I missing a trick here?

From what I can tell, the MO 4Media Show Tags > File Tags display attempts to list all Audio Tags with non-empty values.  Nice idea and the display looks good.  However, two issues:

Tag Issue 1.  Many of the audio fields which I use (both MC Pre-defined and User) are not displayed by MO 4Media, i.e. are "missing".

Here are missing non-empty audio fields in my use case, grouped by type (User Expression Fields are shown with "=")

Missing Pre-defined fields:
[Date (filename friendly)]   (Covered by [Date (readable)] ?)
[Filename (name)]
[Filename (path)]
[Last Lyrics Lookup]
[Last Played (album)]
[Track Transition Duration]
[Use Bookmarking]
[Year]
[Year - Album]

Missing User fields:
[Date Acquired (raw sortable)]=ConvertDate([Date Acquired])
[Foldername]=filefolder()
[Styles]=[style]&datatype=/[list/]  (escaped here for display)  Note: covered by [Style]
[Title]=[Name]
[Type:Folder]=[Media Type]:[Filename (path)]
[Year (release)]

Can MO 4Media display all non-empty audio fields?

Note:  MC displays all fields properly (none missing), both in Tree > Action Window > Tag pane and Options > Library & Folders > Manage Library Fields...

Tag Issue 2:  My [Date Acquired] (a User string field) in MO 4Media always shows the same wrong date "12/31/1969 4:00 PM".  MC itself shows correct values (typically I enter only date, no time).

Thanks for a great app.

When I put this file in the same folder as the movie MO4Media did not recognize the chapter file.
Must I before create a field in the Database called "CHAPTERS"? I do not see any option that I can import this xml file to the selected movie "Aliens". Where do I find this command?

Thanks

Are both of you are referring to the Android version, not the UWP version?  Chapters only work in the Android TV app.  You need to import Aliens_chapters.xml as a data file into MC.

Yes I talking about the Andoid TV, because I'm using your MO 4 Media on Android TV. I do not see the command in MC where I can import a data file.

Just import it like any other file.  You can easily just drag and drop it into MC for a single file.

Sorry I'm to studied for this. Drag and Drop will not work. I get a "not allowed sign" on the mouse courser. When I select Import - I only can import a complete folder and not a single file and also there is no section where I can select a xml files to import. Please can you give me an example? The extension of my file is: .xml

In MC, go to Tools > Options > General > Features and make sure Data Support is checked.

Click "Documents" in the main tree on the left and drag your xml file to the file list (probably empty) displayed in MC.

Turn on Shell Integration in MC settings.

Thanks - I see now the documents on the left and I also imported the .xml file. Same name as the movie. Movie name Run, Chapters file: RUN_Chapters.xml.
When I start MO 4Media I do not see the imported chapters. I see chapters every 5 Minutes. They will be produced, when MO 4Media do not see any chapters file?

Shell integration is also selected (2. Screenshot)
What is going wrong?

Set the Name tag to be "Run_chapters".

I changed the file name as you told me and re-imported the file. No chapters showing in MO 4 Media from xml file. I only see the 5 Minutes chapters in MO 4 Media on my shield in Android TV.

Not the filename, it can be anything.  The Name (Titel) tag in MC.

Thanks - it's working now.

How many steps for this for working. I will write a manual for this. I think many users will not know what to do to support chapters in MO 4Media.
Is there a plan that MC will support chapters in the next release?

Just 2 steps on the MC side: import file and make sure the Name tag matches.

I don't think there are any plans to store chapters as tags in MC.

If you know what to do everything is easy, and there are a few more steps to enable this.

Here's a step by step guide to enable chapters into MO 4Media.

Enjoy

I just see that there is a problem in reading the chapters xml file. In Mo 4 Media wrong chapter times will be displayed.

Here an example for a very long movie. The contents of the xml file is:

Code: [Select]
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!-- <!DOCTYPE Chapters SYSTEM "matroskachapters.dtd"> -->
<Chapters>

In MO 4 Media the follwing chapters ( 3 ) will be displayed, but with wrong times - see attachment.

MO 4Media reads the chapter file incorrectly

I found that MO 4Media reads the chapter files in a wrong way.
A exported chapter file has this format (exported with MKWToolnix or Chapter Editor):

....
    <ChapterAtom>
      <ChapterUID>4376601072122357060</ChapterUID>
      <ChapterTimeStart>00:00:00.000000000</ChapterTimeStart>
      <ChapterFlagHidden>0</ChapterFlagHidden>
      <ChapterFlagEnabled>1</ChapterFlagEnabled>
      <ChapterTimeEnd>00:03:16.154291666</ChapterTimeEnd>
      <ChapterDisplay>
        <ChapterString>Chapter 01</ChapterString>
        <ChapterLanguage>eng</ChapterLanguage>
        <ChapLanguageIETF>en</ChapLanguageIETF>
      </ChapterDisplay>
    </ChapterAtom>

You will notice, that the chapter times also contains milliseconds. If the time is specified at the end also in milliseconds, MO 4Media interprets the chapter times completely incorrectly and all times are no longer correct.
When you delete the .milliseconds at the end of each entry, MO 4Meia reads the times correctly.

@cncb
It would be very desirable if you could change this and also evaluate the .milliseconds. It doesn't matter whether you discard these in your calculation, the main thing is that the actual times are interpreted correctly. Having to change the times manually every time is not particularly desirable, as specifying .milliseconds is normal for all programs tested to date and can therefore be considered correct.

What I can't judge is whether the number of milliseconds has anything to do with the frames in order to find or set the correct start frame.

Thank you and Happy New Year to all of you.

I am guessing that in your locale/location, commas are normally used for the decimal separator?  Try replacing . with , in your chapter file and see if this works.  I can change it to always expect a period if mkvtoolnix always exports it this way.

Hi cncb,

I tried it in every way. All the programs for extracting chapter files are doing this in the same way. The standard for chapter times is always: HH:MM:SS.XXXXXXXXX (9 digits for milliseconds) 00:00:00.000000000.
Also ChaperEdit, MKVToolnix and all the others are doing this. If I import a chapter file with the format 00:00:00 (without milliseconds) they will automatically filled the missing milliseconds with zeros. If you delete the milliseconds during editing in these programs the time will be selected as incorrect. My research has shown that this format is a requirement. HH:MM:SS.XXXXXXXXX

All programs export a chapter file according to this scheme. It will always be the point. used as a separator regardless of the location

It will be great if you update MO 4Media to handle the reading of the xml file with the right timestamp of each chapter.

Greetings

Still another playlist option request:
"Remove from list (from here)"

Sorry, I don't plan to implement this.

Can MO 4Media display all non-empty audio fields?

I added a button to the Tags page which will show/hide "calculated" tags which are missing.  The wrong date displays should be fixed as well.

This should be fixed in the next release which I submitted for review.  Watch the Android thread for when it is available.

The new button is really nice, but date display issue remains.  See post in parallel thread:
