Title: What does the impending demise of iTunes mean for syncing music?
Post by: dasfoo on June 25, 2019, 04:27:54 pm
I've been using MC for long enough that it used to be my interface for syncing music to an early model iPod -- and a few years prior to that, even -- and then grumbling when Apple made it too difficult to maintain that functionality. Since then, my modus operandi for getting new music onto my iPhones has been to export playlists from MC, import them into iTunes, and then sync to my devices. It's nearly the only thing that I ever use iTunes for.

Do we have any idea yet if and how this process will change with the news that iTunes is going away? Will direct MC --> iOS device syncing return? Will iTunes simply be replaced by an eerily similar new iMusic app that requires the same steps? Are there reliable third-party apps that can bridge the MC --> iOS device chasm?

iTunes on Windows isn't going away, Apple can't really get rid of it due to the amount of iOS users dependent on it. iTunes on Mac on the other hand is being broken apart and replaced with 3 or 4 apps. But I believe the Music app on Mac will still sync iOS devices.

Basically, nothing's really changing.
