Title: Graphic Performance [Solved]
Post by: Belarathon on August 04, 2020, 08:41:55 am
Sell me!
Right now I'm using a GPL Linux analog to MC (you can probably guess what it is) because of poor GUI performance.  While I don't enjoy the latest hardware, neither is my PC a slouch.  The alternative I'm using is responsive in the extreme.  Are things likely to change in this regard?

Thanks

What is the specific problem you have with MC?

Slow to start, slow to stop & unload, controls are slow to respond, asynchronous audio video, current version displays blank white screen in Theater Mode.
You can find my troubleshooting procedures in a thread in this very forum.

We only officially support Debian.  You may have seen the Arch thread here.

A different desktop might change what you see.

On my machine running Arch Linux with GNOME, JRiver Media Center 26 starts instantly and its performance is rather good. I'm inclined to say it's something with your Arch Linux install and/or KDE Plasma (this is what I'd bet on) potentially.

I've been through the distro hopping routine, including Debian variants.  What has mostly remained the same is going with KDE DE.  Supposedly KDE is lighter than XFCE now.  It does seem that KDE is somewhat antagonistic to MC.   May have to install XFCE alongside KDE and check it out.

Hey..it turns out you fellows are on to something (imagine, working for the company and all  ;D)  MX19 XFCE - much snappier.  Fluxbox, very responsive.  KDE Neon - works reasonably well!   So, My conclusion is I need more GPU horsepower and need to stay with a Debian based distro.  My current issue seems to be with any and all arch distros.
