Title: Installing MC27
Post by: JimH on September 04, 2020, 03:15:23 pm
Download it from a thread at the top of this board.

Install it.

On Mac or Linux, back up your library in your old version and restore it in your new version.  On Windows, this is done for you automatically.

Please post any questions about installing in this thread.  Questions on other topics may be split or removed.

If you check the latest version of the update

There was a problem
Check for updates.

It will be displayed.
I had a similar issue when I upgraded to 26.
Should I reinstall 27?
OS is windows10.

26 has been uninstalled.
There may have been a problem with 26 because I did not check for updates at that time.
If I had been notified to 27, it wasn't working.

Hi, Admin. Long time user, seldom poster. Is it okay to uninstall MC26 at this point?  Thanks,

If you want. I'd just make sure everything got imported into MC27 first before uninstalling.

Is it better to update M26 with MC27 or should I install MC27 separately.

Install MC27.  Uninstall MC26 when you're satisfied with MCC27.

Just installed MC27 on 3 computers- one server and 2 clients. All 3 were flawless- excellent work by JRiver. Thanks for all your efforts.

I've purchased and installed MC27 on Windows 10 Pro, but I have two initial problems.
1) MC27 (27.0.20 x64) does not automatically find my library etc from the previous MC26 install (26.0.107 x64). I had read in the promo that "The Windows version will find your old data and use it."
2) After installing MC27, I now get a UAC prompt to launch MC27, and now also to even launch MC26 (didn't need it before). If I deny the admin creds at UAC prompt, I get an information popup from JRiver which reads "Unable to register controls. Please run as a power user."
After uninstalling MC27 and going back to MC26, problem 2 went away, and I still have libraries in MC26.

Perhaps there are already solutions for one or both of these problems?

I've upgraded my desk station from MC 26.x (French version) to 27.0.20 (French version) last week. The main server as well as my laptop still use MC 26.x.

Everything is fine except a few translation errors/omissions and a very annoying behavior with cover art.

It displays properly at the top the MC window as well as close to the file names but not in views (cf. attached screenshot).

At the system level, all audio file (flac/ape/wav...) miniatures have disappeared, replaced by application icons. Audio files are properly tagged using dBpoweramp and have embedded folder.jpg miniatures. Folders and other file types still show proper miniatures.

This problem seems to be custom handler related, but, as I've upgraded MC as well as dBpoweramp (from 16.x to 17.2) the same day, this could be caused by the latter or could be a conflict between custom handlers.

I've cleaned the miniatures cache, done an in-place repair of Windows 10 Pro, uninstalled and reinstalled MC as well as dBpoweramp. Still the same problem.

I'm in contact with Spoon at Illustrate who's currently investigating this problem on the dBpoweramp side.

You need to install the version that matches your license.  More here:

I've upgraded from a prior version of MC24 install on Windows 10 computer.  After installing 27 my settings and library were imported.  The old MC24 was also still installed.  So I want to uninstall MC24.  My question is when I uninstall it asks me if I want to remove the Media Center's registry entries.  So if I remove the registry entries is that going to mess up my MC27 install?  Or does it only remove entries specific to MC24?  Thanks.

How do I completely uninstall MC27?
I've reinstalled it but previous settings were still applied.
And WDM driver still shows up as ’JRiver Media Center 25' that's weird.

The WDM driver hasn't been updated since MC25, so that's normal for it to display that.

I am upgrading from 25 to 27. Purchased a 27 license for Win 10. My system is 64 bit. Downloaded mediacenter270026-x64.exe. Double clicked that file and installer appears but freezes at 0% extracting. What should I do next?

You probably need to tame Windows Defender or whatever antivirus app you're using.

If you are on Windows update 20H2 some are having a problem with windows defender (I am one).

Issue is that the exclusion list does not display.  If you had existing entries, they are no longer visible.  If you add a new entry it does not display.
Registry seems to have entries properly registered.

As a result you can not properly manage the list from the UI.

If you encounter the issue, the exclusion list can be managed via powershell.  See relevant sections detailed in this document:

Hi there,

After setting up a new PC a few months ago I am still running AShampoo Uninstaller 9 to monitor installations. On set up back in Jul/Aug I installed MC26 without any issue under the install monitor.

Trying to install MC27 today with the same install monitor is crashes with the BSOD just after opting for custom install, while unpacking files. BSOD "Registry Filter Driver Exception" IFS64.sys? Has anything changed that might explain since MC26. Obviously I can try to install without the Install Monitor - but I would prefer not if possible? I am trying to install latest version of MC27 270026-x64.

I tried installing MC27 two months ago, last month, and now.  I've reinstalled the last (latest) version of MC26.  License is installed and in place.

MC27 launches and unpacks its files, but then arrives at the "transfer former settings and files" step and simply hangs, then displays an MC27 is not responding message and offers the standard choice of wait or quit.

MC26 works fine - no issues.  I'm not in a hurry to have MC27.  I also don't want to end up where I have a few times in the past - with a big mess on my hands. I'm not as computer savvy as most of you - I'm a music collector; as in 26,000 lps and cds.

Is there something simple and obvious I should/can do?

The Wait or Quit message is Windows.  Try waiting.  It could take a while if your library is large.

It's also possible that MC27 is being blocked by firewall or antivirus.  Take a look at the Windows Defender thread here.

I let it run and instead of loading the library from MC26 which is on a 5TB external drive, it began copying and loading as much as it could to my C: drive (400MB) until it was full.  How do I get it to see the library at E: which feeds MC26 and not repeat this.  At present, it's a mess! Thx.

I deleted MC27 and all related files with the help of the, to me, indispensable WizTree file scanning app.  So, I'm back to normal with MC26 and a puzzle about how to eventually install MC27, or not.

Thx for your suggestions.

Try backing up in MC and restoring in MC27.

I'm still running MC26 and not having any trouble.  I've upgraded quite a few times in the past without the hassles I encountered this time.  Is it worth it to try again since I own MC27?  I am NOT a computer hobbyist, but not a novice user either.  I maybe use 10% of Media Center's functionality.  I stream to a DAC and a high-end hi-fi rig, period. Audio only.

Is there an installation for Dummies checklist for this?  I have roughly 2TB of wav and FLAC files.

Thx,

Rod

Yes.

Please provide details about what you do, what  happens, what isn't working right.

Include version and OS.

I am trying - always - to install the most recent version of MC27 posted here on the board.  I sometimes have to enter my registration or license number. I do receive replies that it was successful.  I've used restorations for both MC26 and MC27.

I have Microsoft Office/Windows 365 and accept all updates.

I run the MC27 installer, click "allow modifications to my computer", and the installer begins, and then in a short time wants to copy all my files from my external E: drive to my resident C: drive which is immediately swamped.

In the past, I've run the installer and it's worked out without issues other than having to rename some files or re-tag some folders.

Do I need to back up my library using the instructions from the Library pages?  Do I unload and later reload my music files?

I'd like and appreciate a Step 1, 2, 3 . . . outline/action plan that I can follow. I think many members would. The amount of information available here is overwhelming when one only uses it occasionally to upgrade.  I'm only interested in high-resolution audio cataloging and playback.

Thank you.

MC doesn't copy files from one drive to another unless you tell it to.  The "allow modifications" message is from Windows for security reasons.

Please provide details about what you're doing.

With MC26 closed after backing up my standard library file, I download and launch MC270066-x64.  I click OK to "Allow MC27 to make changes."  I get "Please wait while Install Wizard Copies and registers files." At the bottom of the window, it says, "Upgrading from previous version..."

After 5 or 6 minutes, "JRiver Media Center 27 - Install Wizard (Not Responding)" is the Window header.  Now 30 minutes later, no change.

Am I missing steps?  I've upgraded several times in the past.

Microsoft Office 365
Windows 10 Pro, OS Build 19041.804
Google Chrome is up to date

It filled up my internal C drive again with music files, so it will take a while to get my computer running again.  I don't think I can post screenshots here to it's hard to convey some messages. I have this now:  Please ensure that the file 'C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 27\JRTools.dll' is not in use.

It's still copying files from my external E drive to my onboard C drive and then nearly freezing the computer.

I know.  You've told me this before. I did eliminate a library that was labeled C: but I'm still having trouble.

For now, I'll hang with MC26 since it works. I don't know what I don't know, so I can't articulate my issues to you coherently.  Something changed or I lucked into all my upgrades since the high teens some years back.

I think what you're seeing is MC importing your files.  It's not moving them.  Let it finish or stop it, clear your library (File > Library) and set up auto-import the way you want it.

Post by: rganiard on March 04, 2021, 12:28:38 pm
Thanks. I'll try to work through your suggestions.

It has been copying the actual MC wav music files from E: (3.63 TB)  to C: (463 GB) resulting in a 'drive full' message and frozen computer.

Hello!  I've been running MC21 for some time.  Recently installed MC27 (30 day free trial) and many of my settings, maybe all of them, have not transferred.  In particular, there is a zone named 'Back Yard' that did not get copied/transferred.  This zone has a lot of eq settings so it will be a pain to have to enter each item into MC27.  Is the lack of settings transfer because I haven't purchased MC27 yet?  Something else?  Thanks.

Backup your library in MC21 and restore in MC27.  Does that get your settings?  Thanks.
