Title: NEW: Video Streaming Improvements for MCWS and JRemote2 (January 2021)
Post by: Hendrik on January 07, 2021, 05:50:08 am
We're working on a set of video streaming improvements for MCWS and JRemote2 for Android.  They will arrive later this month.

All these changes are designed for cases when streaming video to the remote device, ie. watching videos on your tablet or phone, or through ChromeCast on another device, controlled by JRemote2!

We're currently focusing on JRemote2 for Android, other remotes should get updates in the future.

Stream Selection
MCWS and JRemote2 will allow you to select the active audio and subtitle streams directly from the remote. Until now a remote player had no option to change the stream configuration, and would only play the streams Media Center provided.

To do this, we've extended JRiver's Media Center Web Service (MCWS) to allow JRemote2 (and other remotes in the future) to select the streams during playback, similar to how the experience would be in desktop Media Center playback!

Bookmarking support
JRemote2 will get support to both use and set playback bookmarks, allowing a mostly seamless transition between devices. Stop playback on one device, and resume playback on another using the bookmark.
Note: Authentication is required for bookmarks to be set in the Media Center database.

Chapter display
Media Center will expose chapter information for remotes to display, so that we can offer navigation by chapters in JRemote2, for a faster way to navigate in movies, and finding the scene you wanted to resume from!

--

All these changes are scheduled to arrive in January. First in Media Center in form of the required web service changes, followed by a JRemote2 update towards the end of the month making use of these functions and exposing it to you, the users!

Any update on this?

Until a couple of days ago I had never used JRemote/JRemote2 for video streaming and was surprised that I could not change audio track (got stuck with an english dub on an Akira Kurosawa movie), so I'm really looking forward to these updates.

The JRemote2 update was released several days ago. It requires Media Center 27.0.61 and higher to use.

Is this video only? I am having trouble getting bookmarks to work with jremote in audio files. Have things setup according to the wiki but no luck.

Bookmarks work for both audio and video.

JRemote2, not JRemote.

Bookmarks work for both audio and video.

JRemote2, not JRemote.
Can you explain how to use it within the app?If I select a file, skip to the middle, then hit stop. Go and play something else and then come back to previous file, it always starts from the beginning.

I am using jremote2 and MC 27, bookmarks turned on in settings.

When I play the same file within MC 27 from my PC, the bookmark is created. Doesn't transfer over to Jremote2.

Are you using authentication in Media Center for Media Network? You need to for bookmarks to work (according to the above). Also it may not work with readonly authentication if you're using that.

I believe I am. I just changed read only to disabled and restarted everything. No change. If I stop the file in MC27 I see it writes the bookmark instantly. Jremote2 neither writes a bookmark or cares about the one that exists in MC27. Puzzled here.

Nothing I am doing seems to be making it work. Would greatly appreciate some help to troubleshoot from anyone that might be able.

Bumping this thread again. Any ideas what I could be doing wrong?
