Title: Bose USB Audio, MC27, and MacOS 11.3.1
Post by: ralphbrau on May 08, 2021, 11:17:39 am
My Bose USB Audio system requires the input format to be 48kz, 6 channels, 16 bit integer. I have not been able to find a compatible output format in MC27. Attempts to play music through MC27 cause the system to change from the default system output device (Bose USB Audio) to the internal iMac speakers. All else sends audio output to Bose USB audio. The Bose is the chosen output device in MC27, and all channel offsets up to 16 have been tried.

MacOS 11.3.1 on iMac.

Suggestions appreciated!

If you open the Mac Audio Midi Setup, that's the ONLY format you see in there?
BTW, the midi setup will not show float. That supposed to work on all devices.

I had this problem several years ago with an earlier version of MC, and got the 6 channel setup from Bose support tech. No other choice appears in MIDI. It has worked until MC27. How are other setups accessed in MIDI?

Thanks, Bob!

Doesn't MC by default force 24 bit output? What happens if you turn off 24 bit dithering in the advanced section under audio?

It doesn't use dithering unless the bitdepth of the material and the output device don't match from what I understand so if you are in integer mode at the same bitdepth as the output device you don't get dithering.

Now MC has never supported 16 bit integer mode (only 24 and recently added 32) so ralphbrau should have integer mode and exclusive mode unchecked.

The good news: After a shut-down and restart of the Mac, the Bose system is working again, with 6 channel 16 bit integer selected in MIDI. (No others appear.) So, I have sound but don't know why... Thanks to Bob and Lily for informative bits of info.

Good news, thanks for the report.
Audio Midi doesn't show float modes so it's likely doing 32 bit float. The key probably was the channel selecting in Audio Midi.
