Title: [solved] UI broken for i3wm
Post by: procyon108 on May 11, 2021, 06:26:31 am
I am using JRiver on Arch with i3 window manager. The UI gives no response... mouse clicks cause a flash, but no menus.

When I boot into a full DE like KDE, it works fine.

Why does this UI not work on a tiled window manager, and what do I need to to to make it right?

You should probably check your window manager focus settings.
MC doesn't even need a window manager to run so it's not that you don't have a desktop.

I fixed this by changing my 13.conf to make all

window class=["mediaserver27"] float enable

You're right, no window manager at all would work, it's just that i3 likes to open everything in equal panes and mediaserver27 doesn't handle that. To use the UI, I had to constantly shift menus manually to 'float' and move them to another workspace or full screen them while selecting options then manually hiding them again. Setting 'float' in the config worked like a charm.
