Title: how to best configure my MC playback
Post by: offskooring on August 15, 2021, 05:01:55 pm
Let me preface this saying i have read about 2 hours worth of posts, searhing the wiki, and also google searching this and reading on other forums as well so I am getting a bit exasperated. Also, sorry for the giant photo attachment. I am super green to media center. I have a new Parasound Hint 6 and it says it's internal DAC supports up to 384kHz/32bit. I really want to make sure I am setting this up to get the best sound. I have a fair amount of SACD files (384/64). When playing these through core audio they are resampled to 48/32. It seems like a huge drop from 384 to 48, but then again i am green and may not even be comprehending the figures. Help or reassurance here would be very helpful.
Also, when I start MC, my MacBook audio switches from PARASOUND to internal and I just get the spinning wheel when i try to change back. It doesn't affect the playback to the Parasound so it may just be nothing to worry about, but i find it odd.

I included a photo of my screen to show the resampling and the internal speaker deal. Thanks all.

is it just a matter of setting bitstreaming to DSD?

Make sure your DAC supports DSD and if it does make sure it supports DSD via DoP, because that's the only way to directly bitstream DSD on macOS to a DAC. If they do, then yes it's as simple as enabling DSD bitstreaming.

Otherwise you'll have to convert DSD to PCM, which is a lossy conversion.
