JRiver running on a Windows PC will correctly display .mov's taken in portrait orientation if you enable Red October HQ video mode. Use of this mode comes with the caveat that it requires a fast computer.
I'm looking for a DLNA renderer, either a standalone box like the Id or an Android TV app, that does this. The DLNA server will be JRiver. Does the Id support this video mode and is it fast enough? If not, does JRiver have an Android TV app that will do this?

The Id runs on Linux, so Red October is not available there. However, if rotation is your only missing feature here, I can say that future Id updates will get rotation support, thanks to our new custom video renderer, JRVR.
-
And how far out is that future? :)
-
I'm not certain about the timeline to actually updating the Id, but at least rotation support is coming to JRVR in the next month or at most two. Not quite tomorrow, but work on JRVR is still a big project that is in an early phase.

What's the status of rotation support in JRVR?
-
Don't think rotation has landed in JRVR yet. It's still on the plans list in this topic: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,131214.0.html

Its almost near the top of the list now. So hopefully not that much longer before it gets to JRVR, and hopefully soon after coming to the Id.

Thanks, Hendrik. Really looking forward to JRVR with rotation support on the Id. Hopefully it's the solution I've been seeking for a few years.
