Maybe you've explored the new photo sharing capabilities in MC12. If not, you can find them by selecting some images and right clicking, then choosing "Send to" and "Web gallery". [Edit -- In build 185, this is a right click and "Share to web". It also works for small (<10MB) videos.]
Select a few images [or small videos] and then choose to share them on a web page.
We're making the storage available on our servers without any charge.
The working name we chose, MyGal, for My Gallery, turns out to be a domain that's worth several million (to the owner), so we registered Pix01.com, (also Pics01.com).
All you need to do to use it is to register. A valid e-mail and a password gets you in.
After the upload finishes, an e-mail will arrive (from Pixie) that gives you the tinyurl (a shortened URL service we're using) link to your new gallery. You can send this link to a friend.
It's still changing, so apologies for any confusion.
The next step, which DarkPenguin is working on, is video upload to a web page. [working in build 185].
-
That's great that it's offered for free. What resolution are the pictures saved on your servers at?
-
Up to 1280x1024.
-
Some cleaver Web-dude should develop a better skin if this is going “prime time” :). Is it meant for MC users only or everybody?
Please, no registration for people to watch

MC users can upload. Anyone can view.
Please, no registration for people to watch
At this point, we don't plan to require any registration. The only reason we're requiring a valid e-mail address to upload is to discourage vandalism.
-
I'm liking this alot already.
However I would happilly pay a small yearly subscription for a service called MyGal Pro, which would allow no resoloution limits, nor limits on the number of images in a gallery.

I am sure that would not discourage some hacker, if thats what your talking about

At one point or another somebody will make the craziest AJAX web 2.0 <insert more buzz words> skin.

Well that is fine. But people should not sign up to watch my picture.
Cheers,

Anyone can view a web page you've added UNLESS you mark it private. No registration of any kind is required to view.

This is a great feature - is there a plan to implement some kind of image reduction in the options (something like the reduction options when attaching pix to emails)? This would make things very easy indeed.
-
Maybe. Right now, we're tending toward keeping it _very_ simple. googlesque, if you will.
-
Yep, understood. I suppose it's not so much bother copying to another directory & resizing. What's the mb usage limit on your servers for each individual?
Edit: Just been using this, and it all looks great. I realise that this feature is in it's early stages; there's no way of seeing the [Name] of each image (that I can make out) - the tooltips of the thumbnails all say "Something"! Switching to thumbnails merely shows the date taken of each picture. If it could be the name or even name & date of the image, it'd be a lot more informative as a gallery.
-
I saw the "something" thing the other day and meant to hunt it down.
The template puts that in. Ah, here is the offending line ...
<td valign="top" align="center"><a href="[LINK:SLIDE]" Title="Something">
It should be something like...
<td valign="top" align="center"><a href="[LINK:SLIDE]" Title="[DB:THIS][NAME][DB:END]">
I'll make that change.
-
I set up the free MyGal and uploaded some pictures giving my email address and a password.
At the end of the upload it said watch you email for info on the url, etc.
Well, I have watched all day and no email.
What am i doing wrong. I see my gallery set up in MyGal Galleries, and can view my gallery, but no email to my account with url so i can share my photos with my friends...
Thanks for the help

You may need the very latest for this to work right now. And it's still not out publicly. Sorry. It should be available in the next week.

Thanks, have changed these in my templates and it works great.
There's another couple of tooltip words you may want hunt down while you're at it; "Original" and "Overview", they come up over the medium and large size pics respectively.
-
Hi there,
I've checked the feature and it works great, thanks.
Will you add an option to change order and/or delete photos from the gallery?
Keep on going,

At this point, you can fix it by doing a new share with the same name. I'm not sure whether we'll get around to editing the web pages themselves.
In very recent versions (not yet public) you can find your original list of photos under Playlists/Pix01 Galleries and add to them before sharing.

Thanks, Jim. That makes sense.

Build 185 is now on this board and available from the download page. It contains many changes in the sharing area. When you right click on a photo, look for "Share to web".
Small videos (under 10MB) can now be shared.

What about some interface/upload tool to flickr or zooomr for photos?

We've tried working with a couple of photo sites in the past and could not get enough cooperation to make it work well. So it's doubtful we'll do it again. We may take a look at this again in a year or two.

That's a shame! Otherwise you have to design yourself and reinvent all the website stuff :-(
Zooomr il supposed to come this month with a new version and a public API.

The home page has a search now.
http://www.pix01.com/
You can upload a gallery from MC12.0.185 (or later). Just select a few images, right click, then choose "Share to Web".

I created a gallery when the option first appeared and it still exists. However if I log in, there are no settings I can do to make it public/private. As a matter of fact, it just lists text of my gallery. Do I need to do it all over again or is there some other way?
Also, there might want to be a way to delete a gallery. If I don't want to share it anymore, it would free up space on your server.
