I am pleased to communicate to all J River users that xpTunes has now become BitRemote.
I decided to join forces with DigiBit, www.digibit.es a company specialised in digital music solutions to commercialize worldwide the iPhone/iTouch remote solution. From now on you can freely test the application and buy the solution in www.bitremote.com , together with BitRemote you get for free web interface BitWeb (fka BlackZone) that allows you to control MC from any PC in the network.
Usage:
remote control JR Media Center through your touchscreen / Pda / iPhone / iPod touch / mobile Phone /... you only need a webbrowser (>IE7, Safari, FF,Chrome,..).

requirements:
net framework 3.5 or greater
first steps:
1.) Unpack the zip
2.) start xpTunes.exe
3.) choose Address and port (button ‚settings’)
4.) save values
5.) start Webserver
6.) connect to specified address (like ‚http://192.168.178.21:8081’) with your web browser
Port 8081 could be in use… perhapse you should use 8082 or so

just some hints:
- Add xpTouch to your iPhone/iPod touch Homescreen
- try the following iPhone/iPod touch gestures:
- move up -> shows playing now
- move down -> back
- move over fullscreen down -> main screen
- move left/right -> browsing
- tab on Album (screen "playing") -> shows all album files
- tab on artist name (screen "playing") -> shows all songs from this artist
How to add xpTouch to your homescreen:
Launch Safari on your iPhone/iPdo touch
Browse to xpTouch
Click the Favorites (+) button at the bottom of Safari
Click "Add to Home Screen"
Click the "Add button"
recommendations:
- use a fixed ip address or your pc name (like http://messiahs:8081/)
hints:
- you can start xpTunes minimized -> "xpTunes.exe -min"
- you can use xpTouch on your G1 phone too
faq:
What are the limitations of a free version?
The only limitation is that the free version only shows 20 tracks.
How one can change number of items displayed per page (pages albums, artists, titles, etc)?
just open the .html file and change "showmaxitems=" to a greater number.

A very (very) early feedback: it is working like a charm !
I was afraid of the "alpha" state of your plugin, but so far, not a single problem encountered.
Moreover I have tested it on a Vista 64bit which is probably the worst testing environment.
Very impressive I have to say. I will try it soon on my pda.
Only a few features missing for it to be a replacement of the default webserver (add to playing now, or play an entire album for example).
After that a few features like to be able to rate the current song or play an and it will be perfect.
Will it be possible to have a small doc, describing which functions your command.cgi accept ? I would like to integrate some call in my own webpages.

to play a entire album or playlist is on my todo-list. i hope that i will find the time in the next weeks.
to add something to "playing now" is a good point, but i have no idea how to solve this, because of space and javascript limitations (pda). I will try it.
In a "normal" environment rating sould be possible... but on a pda i don`t think so (javascript).
A small doc doesn't exists at this time... your only chance to find some commands is to look in the xpTunes_ppc.js file.

OK, I think I may have found a bug.
When starting xpTunes server Media Center's CPU usage jumps from single-digits to 50% + and stays there.
Stopping the server function drops the CPU load, re-starting it bumps it back up again.
Using MC's internal Remote Server makes no difference to CPU loading.

it's not a bug it's a feature ;-)
xpTunes prefetches and parse all your data at startup (artist, title, genre, album, playlists) to provide a faster browsing.
it depends on your number of files how long JR needs to provide all this informations.
I can slow down this feature (cpu usage will then go down), but then you have to wait before you can connect to xpTunes.

Every time you start it, the data will be prefetched.
i have no plans to save the data at this time.... my PC takes for 20 sec about 40% CPU usage... that's ok for me.
How many (audio-) files did you have and how long is JR at 50% CPU usage ?

I presently have over 100,000 audio files imported into Media Center.
I will note the high-load time next opportunity. I do not expect it will cause any great problem as the time should not be excessive.
Any objection to some screenshots? Likely to stir more interest.

No objection... but still remember, that it's an alpha and some changes are already done (add file to playing now).

page load time is pretty snappy for most; Artists and most others are about 2 seconds, but some of the longer lists take up to a minute or so. I did not have the patience to attempt the Tracks list. :D

Each pic shows a different page with unique controls at the bottom of the page. I shrunk my browser window to remove the excess background space as this is presently designed and setup for PDA rather than PC.

I did not include the "Artists", "Albums" or "Tracks" list views as they are rather large with my library. They do list the contents with the Alphabet grouped in 3's for quick browsing.

I'm just now thinking (dreaming) how I'm going to lay out my concept of whole-house audio using something like this. One thing that I'm thinking about (struggling with) is how I'm going to use something like this in conjunction my new Denon receiver (which also has its own web interface and ability to respond to telnet commands).
What I would LOVE to see is something like this with some very basic controls for my receiver's second zone - something where I could at least send commands for power, source, volume, etc. - just the very basics... Would be fun if there would be someplace for some "user defined functions" that could be plugged in to this...

Should be no problem when you have some little javascript- and html skills.
All you can see in the pictures are pure html, javascript and css. So you can add buttons like Poweron /Volume up and so on very easily. xpTunes is a small webServer, so you can add and change html-pages by your own.
I already control my hifi environment with a pda.... that's because i spend some time to xpTunes ;-)
I use a infrared-sender (http://www.irtrans.de/en/) to control this little evils.

Man, this is great! It works just the way I hoped it would. It is actually a pretty darn good replacement for NetRemote. There are a few features which I wish I could help you with, but my programming skills are somewhat lacking. Someone already mentioned it would be pretty cool to either pick a playlist and have it automatically added to Playing Now, or the same thing when picking an album. It's not a big deal, because I couldn't do that with NetRemote either. What I did was pick whatever albums I felt like listening to on the server, then shut off the LCD and controlled it all from my laptop. This works in exactly the same way.
Would be cool to have the window come up in a pre-configured size since I am not using this from a PDA, but I'll work on that and see if I can figure it out for myself.

Just a couple of suggestions off the top of my head...
Options that let you specify that it runs at Windows startup, minimizes to the system tray, and starts minimized. It's easy enough to do #1 & #3 manually, but it would be cool to have that available all in one interface.
And a question... Would it be possible to modify the HTML so that we could browse our collection the same way we can in MC now? Using the same View Schemes, thumbnail views, etc? Would that just be a function of the html, or the app itself?

I never looked to View Schemes, thumbnail views, etc... when they are html based i think (with some modifications)... yes.
I really appreciate custom html templates... but pls wait some weeks, because some commands will be changed.

The program works very well. Works with my pda, with my sidepanel in opera, even works with my mobile phone through edge. Although the page is rendered very big in opera mini. Looking forward to the next version!

But it's really painfully slow. I've switched over to MC which is great but the built-in Remote Server is pretty minimal. Your enhanced Remote Server looks to be exactly the ticket. :)

yes, V0.05 is the last one (not many changes to V0.03).
V0.05 is optimized for pc.... a pda version will follow in the couple of weeks (or month).

xpTunes is a sort of wrapper. With control.cgi you can tell xpTunes that a command follows.
First, you have to know that every file/playlist has a Id in MC.
so e.g.:
playFileById
http://serverIp:port/control.cgi?command=playFileById&value=25045
plays file with ID 25045.
getCoverById
http://serverIp:port/control.cgi?command=getCoverById&value=25045gets the cover (of file 25045)
if you want to use it in a html file you have to use:
<img src="control.cgi?command=getCoverById&value=25045">
or (because i saw your nice template)
<img src="TRACKINFO_INSERT_IMAGE"/>but this always shows the curent playing song (you can use nearly every command listed here: http://wiki.jrmediacenter.com/index.php/Track_Info_Template_SDK)....

Am I still on the beta team for this? If so, I apologize for not being to active about it. I just got done fighting a months-long battle with my home computer. Now that that's all straightened out, I'd love to get back to poking at this thing.

This is awesome. I'm accessing xptunes through my iPod Touch, and now it's like a little wi-fi remote for my HTPC.
It's a little too small to use easily, but I'm sure once some of the PDA oriented "skins" for this arrive, it'll be much nicer.

Wow this is great! ;D It's exactly what I want for the PC...I'd sure like to see the code for llafriel's Opera sidebar skin, I think that would be a great PDA layout.
Still having some Javascript issues with the Titanium skin on my PDA (Palm Tungsten C). The built-in browser doesn't do Javascript. Opera Mini is supposed to, but I can't get the page to load. I don't think the problem is with xpTunes though, I've been having problems with other pages in Opera Mini. Still working on it, will keep you posted.

Working great with Opera Mini on my Tungsten C now. The problem was with Opera Mini not xpTunes. Opera Mini (I'm running version 3) doesn't like dotted-quad IP addresses, I had to set up an entry in my router's local DNS for the jukebox (I use a static local IP address for the jukebox, so the DHCP server doesn't automatically fill in the entry).
I already had MC set up to serve the library across the firewall (port-forwarding) and use www.no-ip.com to map the dynamic IP address that my ISP gives me to a static domain name, so I can listen to my library from work. I added the xpTunes port so that anyone with a smartphone can see what's playing and add tracks to Playing Now (really only useful when they're at my house I suppose... ::)

I have been using the.05 version now for a couple days. This development is a very nice compliment to JRiver.
As for different perspectives:
- layout is pretty clean
- information on tracks is very good
-no bugs so far
Suggestions
The first suggestion would be to have an initial skin with big buttons, inlcuding volume up/down. I have a touch screen (tablet laptop) that I purchased to use for the front end access to my media center. Big buttons help to make selections easier.
Another suggestion is to continue this concept into videos and pics.
Lastly, I would suggest to make the web client more interactive. Perhaps "now on deck" with the title of the next song (scrolling, fading or in a corner like a whisper) to be played or a sound meter would be a nice touch.
As I told Messiahs, I want to impress my wife with not only the ease of use but with the eye candy that this has all the potential for. A great start with the potential to be sexy.

cover or album name = shows all tracks in this album
i = shows informations about the artist (you.fm)
+ = adds the item to playing now
- = deletes song from playing now
stars = rate song
> = plays element (playlist, album, song)

I was walking around the house last night accessing xpTunes from my iPod Touch's built-in Safari browser. It worked great, but it definitely needs a PDA sized UI built for it. Was somebody working on one that's availalbe to download and test?

Hi there - got everything set up for testing on a single machine. xpTunes seems to do everything very well except that it doesn't refresh when a new song is played.
Looking at the javascript code i think it is supposed to do this, isn't it?

This is a weird thing that's happening now that I can't really explain is that I have Radio Mode on. I opened up xpTunes to the Titanium template and went to Playnow. It displayed only the files that were currently in Playing Now, as expected. I clicked the next button in xpTunes and MC started playing a new file. xpTunes didn't display this file in Playnow. If I click out to some other place and come back to Playnow, then it shows. But even as I'm typing this reply, MC is skipping to the next track, playing it for a while, and then skipping to another track. MC is minimized to the system tray, and xpTunes is in another tab in this browser.
If I then restore MC, it seems to stop, but if I minimize it again, and click next in xpTunes, this behavior persists.
Actually, I get the same behavior whether Radio mode is on or not.
Shutting down xpTunes seems to clear this behavior up, so I have to assume it's some weird thing with xpTunes sending the next file command over and over again to MC.

I'm using 0.06, but i think i've found the problem....
I closed xpTunes - and then my browser kicked into life and started refreshing! Looking in TaskManager i saw 2 xpTunes processes running.
So the problem isn't to do with refreshing - it looks like it isn't shutting down properly?

It's in the newest build that's available for download.
But as I later discovered, it didn't matter that Radio mode was on or not.
Unfortunately, I'm not at the machine that was exhibiting this behavior. I will be later on today, though and I'll see if I can reproduce it again.

But if i select my playlists and choose a smartlist that should be different every time - i get the same list! Any ideas why that should be?

yep, smarlists don't update if you call them via SDK... not really nice.
Edit:
Checked it with a udp-client... the same
Perhaps JR can add a feature to update smartlists via SDK.

At work i use NetRemote (from Promixis) and i remember that used to have the same problem - and then they fixed it. Basically it gives you the same result until you play that list, then it updates. They also have a "refresh" button which updates it too. So there must be a way - but maybe it's a bit arcane.....

I've been working on one over the weekend. I was going to give it to Markus after trying to tidy up a couple of things to make it slightly better on a desktop PC as well (it already is quite usable).

OK - what have i messed up here? I can't get xpTunes to start cleanly:
19:50:58 -> Settings loaded.
19:50:59 -> Connect to MC
19:51:04 -> Error: Port in use.
19:51:04 -> The requested address is not valid in its context
I've tried different ports, and they all used to work fine, so am a bit stuck....

Does this error occurs only after windows startup or the whole time you start xpTunes ?

This looks great, especially the cleanup in the css and javascript (under the hood, as it were). The new search page looks and works great also. :)
I added the album info back in, going back to the 3-line format in fbox.
Thanks for adding the track info in the title. I can't figure out how you did that. I wanted to modify it a bit more, right now there's no space between the track title and the album title...but I don't know how. ?
I also notice that the track info in the title doesn't show up immediately, is there any way to fix that?

Also is it possible to make the <title> update immediately?
you can change 'var refreshInterval = 2500;' (xpTunes.js) to a lower value (at this time every 2,5 sec your client looks for new informations).

Here's my updated skin for xpTunes.
It adds only a few things...
1) search results (including the artist/title/album/genre pages) and playingnow show 3 lines of text...[name], [artist], and [album] - [track #].
2) hovering the mouse over any of the "boxes" in the pages above, or over the track title on the "playing" page, shows [filename] in a tooltip
3) search results are displayed in [album] then [track #] order
4) I 86'ed the ticker
5) I put the [name], [artist], [album] info above the cover art on the "playing" page
6) I made the artist/title/album pages come up "blank" rather than showing all the [a" matches

It just occured to me to put XPTUNES_CURRENTFILE_TRACKNAME etc. "statically" in the <title> of index.html, so it comes up immediately and is then refreshed as usual by changeBrowserTitle(). I'll try that when I get home tonight.

Are there any plans to add a way to browse View Schemes? I have some Random Album/Songs View Schemes I've created that are what I usually end up playing. I used to have them as Playlists that were shown in a View Scheme, but once I realized that I could just create them in the View Scheme (which seems faster) I got rid of the Playlists. I guess I could also have them as Playlists, but I'd rather not have to maintain them both.

I like the look of black & white, strangely familiar :-) When are are you planning another beta drop? I am going to have some time again for the iTouch stuff after this week; but you have obviously done a lot more work since 0.08 so would like to start from the latest and greatest. I particularly like the look of the album art in the lists for instance, I hope that translates well to the touch's screen.

New version is good, but the star ratings don't show up in the Titanium skin. They do show up in the new B&W skin though.
I like the new skin, but I think I'm going to stick with my existing skin because I'm too lazy to port my mods to the new skin.
I think I will add the cover art in the search results/playingnow/etc. though. That looks great.
FYI xpTunes has been rock solid stable for me. It runs 24/7 with no hiccups.

The B&W theme has problems on the touch, something in the CSS is now stopping the middle frame from expanding vertically, so the bottom of lists disappear - or worse if you make the viewport smaller to better match the touch's screen it starts to overwrite the footer (this looks like a Safari/Webkit bug to me). I suspect its all related to the use of fixed positioning and hidden overflows, but haven't had the chance to pin it down.
I think I may follow Shasta and try and fit the new javascript and features into my current skin and CSS which works ok. However I think I will change it to have a header and footer as in B&W rather than multiple footers, that makes much more sense.
I don't know if I am completely imaging it, but the actual speed of page updates seems a lot slower than earlier versions - and I don't think it is my wireless network.
Now if only I owned a Mac, I'd love to get the SDK and do a native app to talk to the server rather than struggling with HTML. I wonder if you'd have to code coverflow yourself or if there is a pre-canned implementation in the libraries? Oh well, I can't really justify buying a new Mac, or can I....

Browser = IE6 or Maxthon (formerly MyIE2)
I believe the problem is on the server as it matters not which machine I open the web page on.
(Unfortunately both use the same OS/Browser combo's).

I'm pretty sure IE6 couldn't handle PNGs with transparent backgrounds, so that's what you're seeing.

Markus, I think this was down to my wireless network after all. I recently started using a remote library server so everything is going over the wireless twice to get to the iPod, the thumbnails have just added to this. If I connect directly to the library server machine it is fine.
I've almost finished the iTouch skin port to 0.09; its actually gone a lot easier than I expected and it looks pretty good. Thanks for putting in the page controls that I asked for, it makes things much more usable.
I will put something up for people to try by the weekend with any luck.

xpTunes is a small standalone exe, but works like a plugin.
You don't need NetRemote or something else... (ah ok, you need the .net-framework and MediaCenter 12 or Jukebox).
It's possible to add or customize the skins (pure html & javascript).
In simple words xpTunes is a webserver that handles http requests to control MC.
Personally i think xpTunes is much better than NetRemote ;-)

As well as the iPod I've tested on Firefox (good), IE7 (there are a couple of issues, use Firefox its just better) and the Safari beta on windows (total failure); I have not tried Opera. Markus, xptunes just doesn't work at all on real Safari even with the BW skin, it appears to be totally ignoring the CSS; weird given that mobile Safari has absolutely no problems. I assume therefore that xptunes won't work with Safari on a Mac either.

Just tried the search page on Firefox 2.0.0.12 and it just works for me, I had only previously tested it on the iPod. You aren't using the 3 beta are you? I do have that on another machine and will test tomorrow.
I only installed Safari 3.0.4 a week or so ago to test something else, I pulled it up today just out of curiosity and it didn't tell me there was an update. Downloading 3.1 now, thanks for letting me know.

....almost, I know why search is bust for you, it is still using xptunes_ppc.js, which is still in my development tree - but I removed it from the release tree just before I zipped it up. I will fix that tomorrow. In the mean time just copy it from one of the other skins.

A new version has been uploaded; this fixes the search problem found by Markus, I just copied the B&W skin's page for now. It also improves the look in desktop browsers when scrolling the center frame. Finally I changed the page numbering representation to avoid it spilling over into the list boxes when there were a large number of pages, but I'm not too keen on the look of it. Anyone got a better suggestion?

yep, smarlists don't update if you call them via SDK... not really nice.

Perhaps JR can add a feature to update smartlists via SDK.

If xpTunes were to execute this: "MC12.exe /MCC 22007" before asking for a playlist, then it should refresh smartlists ok. I've been doing it manually from the command prompt and it works a treat, but needs to be integrated with xpTunes.

You can edit the html (I think files.html but don't hold me to that) to sort however you would like. I sort by [Album], [track #] generally.
Then when you add the files to your playingnow, they are in the order they appeared on the screen.
I don't think you can dynamically change the sort order.

Thanks, but I don't want to change the order - i want it exactly as MC has it. For instance i have a "random album" smartlist which has everything in track order.
When xpTunes shows it, the order is not track-based (i can't work out what it is).

Not understood correctly.
I group all my music by the tag field Album Artist
so for example Al DiMeola, Al DiMeola World Sinfonia, and Al DiMeola Project are all under the Album Artist "Al DiMeola" with the specific grop named in the Artist tag
(my files are named Artist\album\Artist - Album - Track # - Name)
So, I wish to change the browsing from Artist to Album Artist

This is what I have found recently using the SDK with sorting:
1) A simple GetFiles() on a playlist seems to get the files in the correct playlist order.
2) Sort() after GetFiles() seems to sort the files of a view scheme as you see them in the MC UI itself (as defined in the sorting for the current view).
3) You can use Sort2() after GetFiles() to sort them any way you want. You can pass in "[Seq]" to Sort2() to manually sort files in the correct playlist order.

What a pitty, it would be great to adapt your cool soft in this direction (if it's not to much work?!). I would test it because I use MC with 5 different zones and to control them via an iPhone/PC is the optimum I try to reach.

At this time i only know the playlist sort bug, but i think i found a solution (i searched for playlist files with mjFiles = mediaCenterRef.search([playlistid]=12345)... and i think i have to use mjFiles = MJPlaylist.GetFiles() (thx to cncb & adamsp70 ) ).

That's great...I am using Oddcast and Shoutcast to stream from my server. I added a link on playing.html to pull up the stream, but since they're not on the same port I had to hardcode the full URL of my Shoucast server into playing.html (you can't use a regular old relative URL to reference a different port, even if it's on the same physical machine). So it's not easily portable. Oddcast can pull metadata from a web page, so I use xpTunes to also generate a stripped down webpage for Oddcast to read. But Oddcast doesn't get updated when the page contents change, I set it up to poll that page every 30 seconds. So I've got a working streaming solution but it's kind of clunky--integrating this into xpTunes would get rid of the clunkiness. 8)

Similar artist/songs will be a wonderfull start. (BTW the flag could be a play/enqueue button)
Other albums from the same artist could be great to have a quick look at the missing album that one must quickly buy/download :)

I think one benefit (could also be a drawback depending on how you look at it) is that if it's a plugin, you know that if MC is running, so is xpTunes. Currently you have to make sure both are running in order to use it.
Currently if only xpTunes is running, it will start MC if it receives a command, but for me at least (and maybe this is a bug?) it just sort of hangs.
Also, I wonder if the memory footprint would be a little smaller if it was a just a dll loaded into MC rather than a standalone exe?

Precisely. Also, it would be just a little 'nicer' in terms of modifying settings etc, as it then conforms more to the standard paradigm of centralised management. (i.e. all settings for MC and it's addons are IN MC).
Additionally, if you plan on having a large user uptake -and it's a GREAT 'plugin', and so it should have a large uptake- it makes it easier to distribute via the built in .mjp system.
Please note that I don't mean to criticize, just venturing a suggestion to improve the experience for the casual user. Is there any reason you'd prefer it not to be a plugin? (if there is it could be a good way to squash this discussion ;))
Lastly, I was on the beta team, but dropped off after you had probs with your list. Any chance I could join back in please?

Streaming to a flash player in the browser would be cool. That's not what my arrangement does.
I stream to a separate media player. I've already got the streaming server running on my server PC (I stream to my Roku Soundbridge wireless music player), so I just added a link on playing.html to also stream to a software music player (for example, MC) on any remote PC. I use that link mostly at work (sure, I could just use the MC Library Server, but it takes a long time to make the connection--it's quick to just pull up MC in Web Media mode though).

yes, but only some small points.
- perhaps i will xpTunes extend to other software like tvc4 or mediaPortal (but i think that i do not have enough time)
- much easier to debug
- as a plugin xpTunes blocks MC from time to time (i don't know why...perhaps a bug in xpTunes or in the plugin-Interface)
- as a standalone app the performance is better (don't know why)
perhaps a wrapper plugin is a choise... the wrapper starts xpTunes in the background and saves settings in a shared config-file.

Have a problem, though..
Installed and worked fine on my desktop PC.
However, on my headless server the xpTunes applet window is invisible when I connect to the server with Tight VNC. The applet runs but nothing is on the screen... This is the first time I encountered something like this with VNC. If I hook up a real monitor to the server - the xpTunes is visible - i.e. it works but for some reason VNC doesn't handle it's window correctly..
?
Any idea why and how to workaround?

perhaps a wrapper plugin is a choise... the wrapper starts xpTunes in the background and saves settings in a shared config-file.
If you're planning on extending support to other programs (and even given the issues you've noted), then the wrapper does sound like a good solution to me :)

sorry, i have no idea. xpTunes uses 'simple' .net forms, so i don't know if this problem is a tightvnc problem or a .net problem.
I use ultraVNC and everything is ok.

I'm using xpTunes and Icecast2 (and Oddcast) to stream around the house.
All works a treat - but is quite a lot of software to install and configure for one task!

that's right. I hope that i can expand xpTunes with some features from oddcast, but i think it make sense to use a specialized streamingserver.

Hard to tell on the server because i remote control into it, so don't hear its sounds. But definitely don't hear any clicks through the clients, no.

Pshaw! I've been waiting with bated breath for you to release the program to the public. I thought the above link would provide this, but it appears to be only a subset of the functionality (looks nice, though!).
I'd don't think I'd add anything to the beta testing already ongoing, but I'm a custom installer and love to be able to demonstrate different ways to distribute music to my clients. I have a client coming over Thursday and I thought he might be interested in this.

This is a great piece of s/w. Well done. On the itouch the only thing that isn't quite right is the search results screen being slightly too big. It does not display the right hand icons correctly.

If you notice, what is happening is the page is zoomed in to the size of the search text box when Safari brings up the keyboard, but it doesn't zoom it back out again when the search is activated. I am unsure, other than making the test boxes the full width of the page (which is a bit ugly) what you can do about that.

that's exactly what I meant. I didn't suspect it could be that complicated... Doesn't Apple give some guidelines to design websites that play nice on the iPhone. It seems to me that's the kind of thing they would want to get out there to promote usage of that particular platform.

I tried it on Axim X51 (WM5) and all the skins look pretty bad - everything is out of alignment... All the button aligned in columns rather than in rows.
Is there a skin optimized for 480x640 PPC screen?

No, since I've got it working under ShoutCast with OddcastV3 as the link between MC and ShoutCast.
You do hear all of the Windows sounds, but that doesn't matter to me, because my MC server is a dedicated server, so there really aren't any other Windows sounds (except a small click between tracks that I haven't figured out how to get rid of, but it doesn't bother me much).

I would guess it's the Windows Explorer Start Navigation sound:
Set Control Panel->Sounds and Audio Devices->Sounds->Windows Explorer->Start Navigation to (None)

I was poking around your html and js was wondering...does the .exe send all the commands to MC? I was trying to see if I could make some modifications to add zone support, but it looks like all the interaction with MC is through the .exe. Do you have any intentions of open sourcing xpTunes? Is it normal to have xpTunes using about 450MB of RAM? My library is a decent size (over 100,000 files) and I'm seeing this across a number of machines. I'm just wondering if its normal, or just me?

Ich habe Remote Steuerung für den ONKYO 905 (wie im HIFI-FORUM beschrieben) installiert.
Welche Port-Nummer muss ich für den Onkyo verwenden. Auf Standard 8080 funktioniert es bei mir leider nicht.
Der Server startet zwar und ich kann auch auf die Einstellungsseite connecten, aber die Selektion der Buttons bewirkt nichts beim Receiver.

the ip and port for the Onkyo are on the second tab (ISCP). There you have to enter the Onkyo values (Port is something like '60123'). You can see this values in the network settings of your Onkyo 905.
On the first tab you have to enter the IP-Address and Port of your PC. This are the values you have to enter in the address bar of your browser.

Die Netzwerk Settings findest Du bei den Einstellungen des Onkyo (die sind dort aber etwas verstecket...musst bei den Netzwerk-Settings einmal nach unten scrollen). Im ersten Tab gibts du die IP deines Rechners ein. Der Port im ersten Tab gibt dann an über welchen Port du Dich zu diesem connectest. Das sind dann auch die Values, die Du im Browser eingeben musst (z.B.: http://192.168.178.44:8080).

i think you have to take your remote ;-). the web Setup of the Onkyo does'nt show the values for webcontrol.
Onkyo Setup
choose:
7. Hardware-Setup
6. Network and scroll down.....
on the same page where the MAC-Address is shown you will find for example the MAC-Address and the flag to enable controlling (control/Steuerung) and the control port.

So you want the behaviour in search to be the same as using the Artist page and selecting an Artist? It should be possible to change the search to album by artist as the Artist page does - a quick look at how the artist html works should show you the way.
Note that the current behaviour in search is the same as the other skins, it is not iTouch specific. I tried to keep as much of the system in tact as possible , although I confess I nearly removed the search page from iTouch altogether, thinking the other pages much more useful in this context. As for changing the behaviour, I think that would be up to Markus, it is his design after all.

I would really love to test this out too...
I'm on a multiple Macs setup, a mac pro as my main machine, a macbook in my bed and an iphone.
I'm running a 3 tera NAS that holds all of my music and use Media Center 12 in vmware fusion to organize and play it.
I'm looking for a remote solution for playing and rating my tracks on other machines...

Sorry. I have tried to, but it is not a buggy software.
I have not had any issues to report, and frankly I am pleased with the improvements that have taken place which are applicable to my usage.
I wish I had programming talents so I could contribute something, but that is not my forte.

AoXoMoXoA, please be sure i mean not you and many others in this thread (btw. many thx to all who gave input/ideas/requests/and spent hours to test xpTunes), but some of the beta-team never gave feedback, since they have downloaded the software.... i'm sure if xpTunes costs 5 cents, they will overflow me with bugs and feature requests;.)

I've had a couple of issues recently where the server has crashed.
I've not been able to nail it down to anything yet.
No exception messages have been displayed just a message
box saying this program has stopped working, debug/close etc.
When this happens the client browsers freeze, both IE and Firefox.
I'll let you know if I find more details.
I'm on the latest build. The issue has been seen on a
Vista XPTunes Server and an XP XP Tunes Server.

I too have seen the freeze / crash of the server on Vista SP1. Like ChriZ I have not been able to nail down why. But since you have found a couple of bugs I will wait and test when you release an update. The only other thing is the search results screen is smaller that the original so you lose the icone on the left hand side of the screen (iTouch skin). This really is excellent in function and so stable for a beta. Very well done.

I've gone to keeping my cover art in the music folders, and when I add an album to the playlist the cover art is sent as well. Is there any way to 'filter' this?

Another vote for zone support here.
Actually, while zone switching capability would be nice in a future upgrade, could you possibly supply a hint I could use to hardcode it to a specific zone now?
By testing I note that the playing now in xptunes displays whatever zone is active. If you ctrl-t in MC, then click on playing now in xptunes, it switches to the song playing in the now active zone.
Of course, this only works if MC is running.
If you just start xptunes without MC running first, I'm not sure how to get it to select a specific zone.
I guess whichever one MC defaults to active when you start it up.
I know these command line strings will set the active zone.
mc12.exe /MCC 10011, 0 = zone 1
mc12.exe /MCC 10011, 1 = zone 2
mc12.exe /MCC 10011, -1 = cycle through zones, selects a different zone each time it's issued.
Is it possible to add a hyperlink in xptunes that execute an equivalent command?

I am having an issue with the current track redirection. I have modified the location in the index file to point to the "server IP address".
I have copied the xptunes folder to the appropriate folder in JRiver. (I am using MC 11.1 & 1.12 xpTunes) However I am unable to get the current track to update automatically. It works fine with a manual refresh. Any ideas?

you are running the trackinfo template in your browser ? then there is no refresh after a trackchange. this template is designed as a 'normal' MC trackinfo page (which is reloaded automatically by MC).
You have to choose this template in JR as Trackinfo template.
If you want to use this template in your browser (with reload) you have to copy the "<body onload=xxxx" statement from another html-file (like playing.html screen)

I am simply loading the main page and selecting a "html front end". I really like the iTouch look. I am just trying to get the playing now frame to update on a track change. I understand the onload concept but am at a lose as to where it needs to be placed.

you only have to copy the trackinfo folder to JR if you want to use this template as a trackinfo screen inside JR.
If not, you only have to change your IP inside xpTunes (settings). If you choose the back&white theme and change the current track there is no reload of the first site ?

Let me try and explain a bit better. I realize after going back over the thread that I have been less than clear on my issue.
I have a tablet PC that is mounted in my kitchen, I would like it to display "playing now" and refresh the web page on a track change.
Everything else works flawlessly.
NOTE: How could I simply add a 10 second refresh to the "Now Playing Frame"? This would allow the album art and track info to update while not interfering with the navigation and control functions of the page. I did a auto refresh every 10 seconds in Fire Fox and it works right up to the point that you need to use the query function and "bam" refresh right in the middle of typing! :o
UPDATE: Meta Refresh on the "playing.html" seems to work!

The "playingnow.html" does not update with a track change. What I did was refresh the "playing.html" (This is a frame in the "playingnow.html"). This updates the current album art and info. This is all in Fire Fox 3 by the way. No idea about the behavior
under IE. I will test it a bit.

I'm getting "application failed to initialize" when trying to run XPTunes, so can you remind me what it relies on? Is it DotNet?

I am experiencing a small problem using xpTunes.
I use MC12 for my player and MJ12 for tagging.
Since I installed MJ12 xpTunes will no longer control MC12, even if MJ is closed and MC is open and running.
Is there some way to 'tell' xpTunes which it is to work with?

I think now you can control MJ with xpTunes ;-).
I don't know a way to 'tell' xpTunes which it is to work with, but i think if you use the repair-function (don't know if MC Setup has this option) or install MC again, everthing should be fine.
small Background:
Both Programs uses the same communication-interface. If you install MJ after MC the com-inferface points to MJ. So all xpTunes commands will be sent to MJ.

First let me say I love xpTunes. It is exactly what I've been looking for.
I have been using it for a few days with no problems. Today I attempted to use it on a PPC running Windows Mobile 5.0 and none of the skins line up right. I tried going to the site as suggested for another poster but it is no longer available.
Does anyone have a skin for a PPC?

Sorry - it's my "refreshing smartlists" problem again.
I'm sure the last version it was all working but with the current one it doesn't happen. If i go to playlists and select a smartlist, play it and then return to it - it's exactly the same....
P.s. could we have the version number displayed somewhere on the app? Ta....

i don't think that a older version works in another way... the smartlist only updates if you click on "refresh" /"reload" and i don't change anything in xpTunes for a while... but if you are sure, i will test it with a older version.

I never get to see that as it all starts automatically on boot up before i have VNCed to it. Maybe an About box? Trivial though - only if you have a spare moment...

Could I get a download of xpTunes? I'm working on on remote server interface plugin ( http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=47580.0 ), primarily for interaction with a Squeezebox remote, but potentially usable for other interfaces. I am building into it a basic "lil IIS/Apache" which can serve up static html content which can access the json output of the server, which would make it possible to host a web UI. It sounds like there might be some crossover with the work that you are doing, so I'm curious to see if any collaboration would be of use/interest.

I've been checking this thread on a regular basis for months now to see if there would be a download for the general public.
A few years ago, I tested several pieces of multi-media software to see which one would suit my needs, and I am still delighted with Media Center except for its Remote Server Interface.
I'm running xp a Dell as a server for all my media, which is stored on the asus wl700ge wifi router/external hd/torrent downloader. I listen to my music when at work via vpn and having media center installed at the office. We control media center at home in the living room via the flatscreen tv and a rf remote control using wireless audio/video sender/receiver. (Dell server is upstairs). But when listening to music I need to keep the tv switched on just in case I want to control media center. Another problem is, how do I control my music when i.e. in the garden in summertime?
My HP Ipaq 6915 phone would do the trick perfectly with it's wifi internet and xptunes.
Hence, I use media centre about 18 hours every day and I'm sure my testing will be useful.
Besides that, I would really appreciate if I could join...

If xpTunes has been running for a long time, when I go to use it again I do not see the cover art or album title on the HOME page. Instead I see the code calling for 'current _album' something.
Once I close xpTunes and restart it I once again get the cover art and the album name info displaying properly.
Otherwise it is running well and is a wonderful addition to MC.
Edit: I got the exact message displayed when this occurs:
The cover art display is blank with the words Cover Art shown instead of the picture,
and the track info simply shows XPTUNES_CURRENTFILE_RATINGLIST

i really don't know. i don't find any time to realize all the ideas i have in mind.
In the last weeks a wrote a xpTunes-JRPlugin... and now i have to change the xpTunes.exe.
At the same time i played with a new template for iPhone/Touch... here i have to extend xpTunes a little bit.
On the other hand there is enough input about the "old" beta-version.. so there is no need to extend the beta group.

You could always release a 1.0 version and then add all this extra stuff into a 2.0 version later. Your original post about this project was 9 months ago. If you wait too long to release it, people might start looking elsewhere and lose interest. It works great just as it is. It's been working great for months now. I vote for a general release. :D

I would agree, release a 1.0 and then gauge people's feedback on what the most important improvements/new features should be.
I use xpTunes a lot, and it's more complete than a lot of other software out there!

3.) choose Address and port (button ‚settings’)
4.) save values
5.) start Webserver
6.) connect to address (like ‚http://192.168.178.21:8081’) with your web browser
Port 8081 could be in use… perhapse you should use 8082 or so.

Used XPtunes for the first time last night on a nokia n800. awesome. however, would love to have multizone control. and maybe a skin designed for the n800 or nokia internet tablet series.

I would recommend to change a existing skin (I think the iTouch skin will be the best fit for your N800).
Normally you have only to change the css-file a bit.

I fill completely idiotic as I can not get XPtunes to work which must be a problem on me since you all report that it works like a dream:
I am runing Vista Ultimate with MC12 and a Girder setup (including a number og LUA scripts) that enables an extensive control possibility of MC12.
The MC12 library server is runing on the relevant machine.
I have instaled XP Tunes according to the very simple ( and I would think with nearly no possibility of doing it wrong) receipe given by M
I have tried to use it from a laptop runing on the WIFI in the house and on a iPod Touch also runing on the WIFI
I observe that I am not able to add groups of files (playlists, albums etc) to the playing now list.
I am not able to initiate playing of an entire predefined playlist. Controls for this does not seem to work and I asume they are intended to work?
The small controls on the left side of the screen that I asume is for scrolling the file list, is not working (upwards arrow item/number of items down arrow). This is valid for both the BW skin and the iPod skin.
I have about 10000 tracks in my collection but the playlist in question is limited and does contain about 30tracks normaly.
When I go back and forth it normaly ends with XPTunes crashing.
I feel its something simple and fundamental I am missing??
Except for this XPTunes looks great and offers a functionality thas has been missing and wanted by many.

I have exactly the same issue, using my laptop to connect to xpTunes, or using a ITouch.
Other problem is that when I select an album, it doesn't show me the songs of this album. It show me other songs... Marcus, I have a picture of this. I can send you if you need it

I us IE7 on the laptop. The laptop runs XP Prof with SP3. Security level is medium (which is the lowest). If special tuning is required please tell me what specific to tune.
I am runing Girder with a number of LUA scripts that does interface through COMS and through the "SDK" but turning it off does not seems to help.
For the iPod Touch i use the attached browser.
I have tested more this evening. I can change songs within one playlist. I can delte playlists but I can not append files in the "current" view to playing now. Is there a timing issue involved?
When I apply a little more "patience" the crashing of XP tunes is reduced...

I have drasticaly re-instaled Vista (needed to do so for other reasons aswell), and of course the player etc etc. VOILA it works. I have no idea what caused the problems.

Koln. I think that's where I picked up a VW Bus in 1964 and toured around Germany for about two weeks with my mom and my two sisters before I fled to Milan to buy a Vespa so I could have some peace and quiet.

I have downloaded xpTunes but have not yet unzipped it and installed as I don't like to install things which I won't use. I know this is a popularplugin and getting great reviews... but what I can't seem to figure out is... what does it do?
I am looking for a way to access my MC12 library from other computers... and even better yet, from mobile devices like an iPhone. Will this plugin do it for me? I really dont know what an "enhanced remote server" means.

Hi Markus - am trying something a bit different for a skin, and i want to be able to make 2 calls of the form:

and then grab the cover using

When i do this, both covers are the same (and appear to be from the 1st call) when they should be different.
Is it only possible to make one of these calls per page, or am i doing something wrong?

Something I have seen that it is a problem for me (maybe no for the other beta testers...)
In MC, I have a view that is genre/artist/album: If I select a genre (i.e rock), MC shows me all the artists that have some rock album, and inside these artists, his albums.
But with XPTunes, if I select Rock, I see all the songs that are classified like rock, and it is crazy (at least for me)
Could you change it or it is the normal way to work?

I love xpTunes!
I just found a bit of a problem.
I was was not using static IPs on my router. When I first ran xpTunes my computer had was using 192.168.123.100. Now it is using 192.168.123.103. When I start xpTunes I can not "stop Server" or enter the "Settings" menu since xpTunes is still trying to talk to 192.168.123.100. Hopefully this bug will be easy to fix. Maybe the xpTunes app should use local host 127.0.0.1 to set its local configuration.
I deleted the registry entries and restarted which got around this problem.
Will the cost of this version include any upgrades? I am ready to buy if it does.

I have been very impressed with XP Tunes thus far. Very functional. I would love to be able to search the "Now Playing Queue". This way if we have a large playlist with several pages we can get to tracks quickly. Also a very nice feature would be a "Play Next" when adding
a track to the queue. Keep up the great work and many thanks.

There are no plans to build a 2.xx Version... but who knows.

I am currently using Media Jukebox 12.0.49 and xpTunes 1.00. When I try to see the track list for an album, it shows me all of my tracks from all of my albums, starting with the band "!!!." Note, this happens in the themes "black & white V0.8" and "ITouch V0.3", but it does NOT happen in "MediaCenter iRemote V0.4," which works normally.

it's always there, but it's only a vnc client (java).

A client? Then I can't remote control my computer from my iTouch VNC client. I had a VNC server on my PC but I removed when I found that I could use the one from xpTunes. Maybe I had gone crazy on that day.

Your application looks really cool, much better than Netremote.
It has been asked for somewhere before, just would like to mention it again:
1) need to navigate through custom views, same than in MC.
I have defined an own way for classical music (composer / work), and this will be not supported by the current navigation.

that's right, you have to define your views and layout in xpTunes (html) or perhaps you can work with playlists/smartlists ?. there's no possibility to get custom views from JR. You mentioned composer... can't you use artist (sry, i'm not a great fan of classical music, so i don't know if the tags are different) ?

That's no problem, but other requests say: genre -> album -> titles other genre -> artists -> titles... all is possible, but no scenario fits for all...

been reading this topic here and am very impressed, i use to have pda's and also accessed my jriver library a couple years ago with cinemars mobile remote... i no longer have the software :(
does xp tunes work with any cell\pda? will it work on a smartphone? and does one need to pay for internet access through cell carrier to use it to control it? or can you use it with in your home network?
is this what you all are using now on your lappies instead of remote desktop to change songs?

i want to use my iPhone to use as a remote control for my MC library. i assume xptunes can do this? i'm still a bit confused how it will work since my iPhone is not seen as a computer on my LAN, nor does it send any IR signals. i guess at this point the best thing i could do is just install it and see what it looks like.
i was kind of expecting to see this as an app in the app store (like rivermote; perhaps this is the app that i'm actually looking for to do the above)

I'm a classical fan. For that genre, I usually browse in this order
composer-->work name-->artist (-->version) (version is not needed most of the time.)
For broadway shows browse in
album-->composer--->artist (-->version)
or
composer-->album-->artist (-->version)
Using "filter in both directions" panes in MC 12, one view scheme can support both browse orders.
For pop (songs) I use
composer-->artist-->album->name
For many of my files in this genre, the composer is as important as the performer in selecting music to play.
For Jazz and Rock, I browse in a standard order
artist-->album-->name
I have view schemes for each genre in the tree on the left side of the MC window.
I would not have a problem building view schemes for your remote if there were clear and detailed documentation.

I have defined similar views.
A) For classical music:
1) "Work Navigator": Composer -> Work -> Album (*). For this case I have set a filter that only complete works are displayed (defined extra data base field in MC: Work complete Y/N).
2) "Composer Navigator": Composer -> Album
3) "Album Navigator": Genre -> Album
B) for Non-Classical music:
There I don't care about the composer.
For these views I have set a filter that titles with classical music genres are not displayed
1) "Genre/Artist": Genre -> Artist -> Album (*)
2) "Genre/Album": Genre -> Album
3) "Artist Navigator:" Artist -> Album (*)
It looks like the best would be that xptunes supports the in MC defined custom views. If this is not possible, I have marked with (*) my minimum requirements which should be supported.

For an existing view scheme under Audio, right click on it and choose "Edit View Scheme". In the dialog that appears, there is a checkbox on the right side that says "Filter in both directions".
If it is not checked, then the panes will work in a strict left-to right way. Suppose that you have selected a value in the leftmost pane. (say "Beethoven") and then "Overture, Coriolan" in the second pane. If you go back to the first pane and select a different composer ("say Borodin".) The selection you make in the second pane, "Overture, Coriolan" ill be removed so that all Borodin works are shown.
This works fine if you are selecting values from left to right in the panes. It doesn't work at all if you want to select a value from the rightmost pane first and then a value from the leftmost pane. When you click on a value in the leftmost pane, your selection in the right pane will be removed. So you need a View Scheme for each browse order.
If "Filter in both directions" is checked, your selections are not removed when you make a selection in a pane to the left of the ones you have selected in. For example, if you have panes for Composer, Work and Artist fro m left to right, you can browse in any of these orders. For example
Composer->Work->Artist
or
Artist->Composer->Work
I do find that the logic that MC 12 uses in implementing "Filter in both directions" is puzzling. For awhile, I thought I understood it but JRiver seems to have changed the logic. So it sometimes clears a selection when I don't want it to.

xpTunes can work with any device (an Internet browser must be installed).

of course. I personally use xpTunes wit my IPod touch (wireless connected) to control JR, but you can also use a touchsceen, your pcm your pda or any other device with a Internet browser.

No. xpTunes is a (web-) server, so you have to install it on the same pc like MC.
Done this, you can connect from every browser to xpTunes and start playing.

No, xpTunes is like a webServer and all skins are pure html and Javascript. If you are connected to xpTunes with your browser the skin loads from xpTunes and all your commands are send via TCP/IP (LAN/WAN, wireless or not) to xpTunes.
xpTunes now translates these commands and controls MC.

I am unable to enter the IP address of my 'server' into xpTunes.
It is a local IP: 192.168.210.109. It even shows up in the list but says the IP is invalid.

I don't know the possibilties of Vista Media Center... if you can open a browser, then you can control MC (but i don't know how the remote will work).

Auto will allow me to save but it still does not work. It fills in the ip with the MAC address which shows in the dropdown in the settings (which won't save if selected that way)

I got excited about xpTunes as a replacement for Musiclobby from Cinemar. It is much simpler and robust then Musiclobby.
I have xpTunes working when accessed by a Windows computer, but my hope all along has been to use a handheld browser to control the music on JRiver. Cinemar is no longer giving out Musiclobby PPC at all.
xpTunes should work, but I do not have or want an Apple IPhone or IPod Touch. I have 2 or even 3 Windows Mobile devices that I have been trying to get work with xpTunes. Any browser should work right? Not really.
Mobile IE does not work with xpTunes in Pocket PC 2002 or Windows Mobile 6 - and heck Mobile IE is useless for almost anything I can think of :P.
But, I have also tried Opera Mobile now (version 8.65), and still don't get properly formatted screens from xpTunes, or functioning buttons.
Skyfire and Opera Mini won't work because they are not really handheld browsers, but rather remote WAN browsers which are not suitable for an in-home LAN.
Is there stuff in the xpTunes pages that require a desktop browser? Does anyone have xpTunes working with a Windows Mobile phone or pda browser?

you're right, MC doesn't offer a SDK function for playlist groups (or i did'nt found a right function)... so xpTunes can only handle playlists and smartlists...

Also, maybe mentioned before, the XP-tunes server must be started after MC13 or else MC13 reports it is opening in "read-only" mode.

Ever since running XP Tunes at startup, I get the "Read-Only" access once starting MC.
I checked the Processes list, and made sure MC and XPtunes were shut down. Start XP-tunes, then MC, every time I get the "Read Only" message.
I'll make sure it's not another app doing this.

Perhaps "allow multiple instances to run at one time" is enabled (options/general/advanced) ?

It was the "run multiple instances" causing it. I enabled it to try something the other day. I'm seeing Media~1.exe remain open long after closing MC; just closed XPtunes and it's still running.....

Minor sorting suggestions -
1. Use Album Artist (auto) rather than artist, or make this an option for searching but then show actual artist field only upon playback. The number of variants in the Artist field will be eliminated. Better yet allow the user to pick a field. A Custom Artist field is a great way to avoid "popular" artists getting "stuck" in Multiple Artists because they appear on a compilation or have a duet with someone (i.e. one track has different value in Artist field)
2. Allow sorting by Artist (auto) but show albums; this is highly overlooked way to visually browse albums but in sections ordered by Artist.

Using the iTOuch skin (the black one) on my iPhone:
When I select the disc to browse albums and then choose an album to diaply tracks I see the same wrong tracks listed for the album every time.

I don't have an iPhone. What I do have is many PCs around the house that could be used as client controllers for the main MC installed in the rack. Man I wish MC would natively support true Server/Client...been asking for this for years.

Is there a way to hard code the zones so we can add as many as we need? Also, on that same note, is there a way to make a version that is better suited for desktop monitors? I'm quite proficient at HTML, CSS etc. xpTunes is a great program and really fills a massive hole for "Client" control as my music server.

I just stumbled upon this thread while looking for a way to control MC over WiFi / Bluetooth.
On my Laptop and Desktop the program looks very good and works well. So far great program.
The only downside is that with the device I would like to use it for, my "smartphone" running on S60 3rd fp2 I have to say it useless - sadly :-(
First the pages don t load completely and it seems they are "stuck" by some imcompatibility with the browser (s60 uses some java browser I think, at least it isnt a "real" browser) and when the pages load navigation is pain in the a..
You have to scroll way to much.....
I suppose thats because the page isnt designed for such a small screen 240x320 and the browser cause iPhones is much bigger :-)
So the Version 1.0 is about 6 Months old, is there any chance for further developement and optimization for smaller screens other browser?
The price of a couple of Euro/dollar isnt the problem, but i just wouldnt buy it if its not working to some degree :-)

But this week i upgraded my Media Center from 12 to 13 both at home and at work. Everything is great and works as before except the album art that is served by xpTunes. Whereas before the quality of them was the same as the originals on MC, now they look as if they are tiny images being resized up - and hence look awful.
I'm guessing this is an MC13 setting i am missing rather than an xpTunes fault - but can you help me sort it out at all?

I have noticed the cover art is pretty small on the Playing Now screen but it is also pretty bad quality. I've been using Simplify on my iPhone over the WAN and the cover art loads quick and it's really sharp.
I've also noticed the Remote Desktop function in the shutdown skin; I use VNC over LAN/WAN with a password. Do I have to change any settings for access via XpTunes...I don't get any prompts just a black screen.

Am i right that for album art, you send through a 400x400 image and for thumbnails you send through 63x64 images?
Is it possible these could be configurable or raised? I'm finding them compressing way to much for the sizes i would like (700x700 and 125x125 respectively)

i already reported this bug to JR. I think deleting all files in "Media Center 13\Cover Art" can help.
I use UltraVNC with port 5900 (without password). xpTunes must be installed on the server pc. Perhaps you have to enable the http port in vnc ?

Yes of course. All skins are html & css based. Javascript is only used to send commands to xpTunes.

The xpTunes and skin development still goes on. I think the iPhone skin is now really great.

Not really sure how to troubleshoot this, but my XpTunes has stopped working. I use it with JRMC13 on my iPhone. When I initially installed it, it was a breeze and everything worked fine. I created a short cut to http://192.168.1.100:8081/some-html-file.html on the front of my phone and all was well.
I have no idea what changed (nothing that I know of, but something clearly) and now when I click the link on my iPhone to brin gup the xptunes menu, safari says it can't open the page. I am connected to the right wifi network and the settings look okay. I'm at a loss.
EDIT: I have upgraded to the latest Apple software 2.2.1 I think... but I can't imagine that is the issue. I will try to access the xptunes menu from my PC when I get home tonight. I hadn't even thought about seeing if that worked.

i have firmware 2.1.1 and MC13 too. No problems.
First i would check the ip address of your pc and the ip address entered in xpTunes.
Perhaps another application now uses the port 8081 ? or a firewall is blocking xpTunes.
You can although check with a local browser (installed on the same pc like xpTunes).
Can you browse to other pages (like google) with your iPhone ?

So I just registered xpTunes, and since I haven't gotten my registration key yet I used the demo key just to get myself up and running. Unfortunately I'm not having any luck at all getting it to work on my HTPC. The server is obviously running, because I can view it from my iTouch, but I can't ever get any further than picking the skin I want to use. It just sits there trying to load. On the rare occasion that I do get past this point, it doesn't show any media listed, even though from MC itself, I can browse it all just fine. If I try it from the browser on the PC itself, I can load the skin rather quickly, but still don't get any media showing up. And quite frequently, I get an error message that says something about failing to connect to com server.
On another PC I've tried this all on, it worked perfectly, which is why I decided to register it. For some reason it just doesn't like this other PC.
One difference between these two PCs... on the one that isn't working, I had an older beta version of xpTunes installed. I tried wiping out the folder and extracting the 1.00 version fresh, but there's obviously a configuration stored somewhere because it still has all the settings from the previous version. Not sure if that's relevant or not.
Also... I noticed that the Autostart with Windows feature doesn't seem to be working here. I had to finally create a shortcut and put it in the Startup folder.
And finally... a question. If and when I do finally get this working properly... is there anyway to have it minimize to the system tray on startup? Currently, with my HTPC starting up MC in Theater View mode, I get xpTunes popping up over top and I have to bust out the keyboard/mouse to minimize it to get it out of the way.

in the new version yes. the new version is finished, but i have to change and test the skins too. the new version of the iPhone/iPod version is really great, but i have to change the 'normal' web skins too. I think in 2 or 3 weeks i can release the new version.

Checked all that. Only one instance of each is running.

Both the PC that works and the PC that doesn't are running Windows 7 beta.

Possibly useful ideas...
1. A delay somewhere might help.
2. More likely, the recent change for Media Server startup may affect it. There are now three options, under Startup. Reset this even if you've done it before.
3. Don't try manually adding Meda Center or Media Server to your startup sequence. Do it in MC.

one strange bug i've encountered is that the settings always reset to 192.168.1.100
i tell it to set to .103 and it remains .100 the first time. then i tell it to go to .103 again, and it will work.
however, the next time i shut it down and start it back up, it is back to .100.
very annoying.

- you can start xpTunes minimized -> "xpTunes.exe -min"
- now you can use xpTouch on your G1 phone
- Add xpTouch to your iPod/iPhone Homescreen
- try the following iPhone/iPod touch gestures:
- move up -> shows playing now
- move down -> back
- move over fullscreen down -> main screen
- move left/right -> browsing
- tab on Album (screen "playing") -> shows all album files
- tab on artist name (screen "playing") -> shows all songs from this artist
How to add xpTouch to your homescreen:
Launch Safari on your iPhone
Browse to xpTouch
Click the Favorites (+) button at the bottom of Safari
Click "Add to Home Screen"

I'm having a problem with this version where every time I start it, it's forgotten all of my settings and I have to set them back every time. So every time it starts I have to set the IP address and the Autostart settings. Also, the Autostart with Windows still doesn't seem to do anything, although maybe whatever bug is preventing it from writing its registry settings is responsible for that as well? I've even tried "Run as administrator" to make sure it was UAC getting in the way of writing to the registry, but still no dice.
When I installed this version, I realized I still had the demo license key entered, so I put my personal license key in. This isn't being saved from session to session either.
Another thing I've noticed is that I always have to set the IP address twice before it will take. So every time I start this, I have to click Settings, then set an IP address, then click Save, see that the IP address box is still empty, then click Settings again, pick the IP address, click Save, and then it's set.

No, my settings (setup and registration) were as before. I'm under Windows XP SP3.
Also, I must tell that the "autostart with Windows" option works for me (minimized in tray!).
BTW, it's nice that album art displays nicely now.

Looks like it might be running into a permissions/UAC problem. I tried deleting all of its settings from the registry and then re-ran it. I entered in my settings, saved, ran the server, then quit. I checked the registry and it hadn't created a key for itself. So then I right clicked on it and "Run as administrator", set all of the settings, and this time a key in the registry was created. But if I then run it normally, it can't read those registry settings and I'm stuck with all of the default settings again. If I "Run as administrator" again, then it finds all of my settings and works fine. The weird thing is, I wasn't having this problem with the previous version, so has something changed that could be causing this? The permissions on the registry key are set so that Users have Read permissions and Administrators have write permissions. I would think that, at the least, it should be able to load the settings from the registry with these permissions. Regardless, I gave "Everyone" Full Control over the xpTunes key and now it's able to read and write settings correctly.

When I am using the iTouch skin, when the Play button is clicked to Pause, it vanishes leaving only RW - Stop - FF and no way to restart play/cease pause.
If I go to the Titanium skin and click the Play button to Pause it reverts to a Play button so I can resume.
How do I resume playback in the iTouch skin?

messiahs... you truly are a messiah. a god amongst men. thank you so much for listening to our feedback and giving impeccable user support for such a nifty piece of software. my user experience with xpTunes and personal support received from the developer has been second to none.
however, as i believe doof is reporting... i have to change my settings twice for them to stick. and then it later forgets them. the minimize to system tray works very nicely, though.

After some time using the latest version, I have to be honest... I feel like a couple steps backwards were taken.
(This applies to controlling the software from an iPhone)
I find it more difficult to browse through my music collection. I used to be able to touch a button near a playlist and it would play. This doesn't seem to work anymore. There is no pause button on the playing now. There is stop/play, but I really wish that I could just tap play and toggle between play and pause. It doesn't appear to be present. I also find it kind of annoying how clicking on a lot of links on the phone opens them in new safari browser windows. This might just be something I'm not used to and something that will grow on me, but I'm not sure. Dealing with multiple windows is kind of annoying and just feels clunky.
Is there a way I can use the 1.5 PC software with an older version of the HTML files/interface/navigation?

Again you are right.
I was used to using the XpTouch skin and I had unknowingly switched to the iTouch 0.3 skin.
This fixed all the issues I reported earlier.
Currently my main problem is with my settings taking two saves to remember, and then xpTunes forgetting them after I close the program.
The only other bug I have to report is that occasionally in the currently playing now page, the number of stars occasionally shows up incorrectly. I've got a playlist called 3+ stars that plays all my music rated at 3 or more stars. It plays all the songs in te playlist correctly, but some of the songs show up as 2 stars when they are in fact rated 3 stars.
Other than this, the only suggestion I have is that when I navigate through my playlists, only 5 are showing up on a page. 10 will fit, so i have 37 playlists that should fit on 5 pages but instead seem to unnecessarily take 10

One other suggestion would be (and this may not be possible) would be if I browse to a playlist containing video files (All my movies are on my hard drive in a playlist called Movies), if XpTunes could somehow detect that the file was video and not audio and then when played instead of doing it quietly in the background, it actually played the video file in full screen mode. I think this would be difficult to implement, and probably not too useful for most of your audience, but I think it would be pretty neat.

To be honest, I got about 20% into your post and you started talking about editing the regitsry and I just moved on since the only thing I know about registry editing is that if you don't know exactly what you are doing, then to stay out. However, I just read your post in its entirety and see that maybe all I have to do is set to run as administrator? I will definitely try this when I get home this evening. Thank you!

Is there a limitation on the demo license? I can't get any connection at all to the MC Library Server from my web browser (FF) on the same machine.

Hi Markus - just upgraded to the new version and none of the commands on the default skins (e.g. black & white) work any more.
So it displays everything fine, but if you try and play an album, or pause the music etc then nothing happens.
Any idea why?

After doing all of this, the problem still wasn't solved. The boxes that were supposed to automatically check did, so I know I did it all right. However, I still have to manually tell xpTunes twice before it remembers the settings, and it still forgets upon exiting :(

I really find xptunes useful and it seems a better solution than the other options out there.
I have installed the latest xptunes, but would like a little more info on the improvements.
I see that the tap album and artist (in the playing window) bring up the list of songs as described, but this only works in the itouch skin and not in the xptunes skin (which I find easier to use).
Also could you please describe in more detail the functions of the gestures.
I could not get the move left, right up or down gesture to do anything.
Finally, is it possible to implement finger scroll of pages (eg song lists) instead of having to tap the arrow at the top the page (ie 1 of 10)?

I'm testing this new version on my iphone and it's great.
I would have a suggestion for a possible future release.
Would it be possible to have the option to see on the playing now screen, the "genre" and maybe the "year" of the track?
I'm a big fan of "random" music, and having the "genre" would help me quickly jump an unwanted genre or spot a wrongly classified track.
It's a great app.

The settings bug has essentially been fixed. It still took two times for it to remember my settings. However, it did not forget them upon exiting the program. The playlists do display 10 per screen now. thumbs up :)

I made a shortcut with the xpTouch skin on my iPhone and I also made a shortcut for the iTouch skin so I can switch interface depending on my mood. The only problem I'm having is with the iTouch skin. when i click on any other icons (playing now, playlists, genre, etc...), it loads the page on Safari as a new windows (not in fullscreen and in very small fonts) with the title "fileTable". I'm using v1.06... I know that the iTouch skin used to work great at one point, I'm not sure what broke it.

strange request maybe: I have a jailbroken iPhone 3g (2.2.1) and I use the backgrounder application. It doesn't seem to interact too well with the xpTouch skin when it's launched through a shortcut (no problem when it's open through Safari). Now, I know that most applications are not designed to run in the background, but Safari does and I was wondering if there would be a way to prevent the instance of Safari launched through the xpTunes springboard shortcut from closing when I press the home button.

Having xpTunes set to "Start with Windows" causes a need to disable MC's setting of "Run Media Server at Windows Start-up" or you get an error message from MC stating that it is already running.
Is there some way to have xpTunes make the Media Server icon appear in the system tray as MC would do if it had been set to start Media Server?

I had MC set in it's options "Start Media Server with Windows Start" and also had xpTunes to "Autostart with Windows" and "Autostart Server"
I will try a delay on xpTunes and see if it acts the same or no.

OK - here's my test trying to take as much "variation" out of the equation.
On a single machine running Windows XP i have MC 13.0.119 and xpTunes.
Running IE 7.0.5730.11 on the same machine i go to the black & white interface - everything shows up fine and i can navigate playlists and albums etc. But if i press play or any other command to launch/play/pause/stop music - nothing happens! No errors reported as far as i can see.
Any ideas?

I use nearly the same environment (WinXP SP3, MC 13.0.169 and IE 7.0.5730.13) and everthing works perfect.
At this time i have see two sources of trouble:
- security settings in IE
- screen resolution
One thing.. can you pls start the b&w skin and then change the track in JR -> does the track in b&w skin changes too?
If not, is it possible to try another browser like FireFox portable (http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable
(This version doesn't install anything to your registry) and try it again.
one more question:
Is it possible to change the file rating or to encrease the volume ?

How strange - didn't tried that - yes those both work. As does forward/back tracks. So it's play/pause and starting new albums/playlists etc that doesn't work.

I just stumbled upon this application. Thank you so much for this! It solves the issue of how to use my iPod Touch with my whole house audio setup. However, like any new user, I do have a suggestion/complaint...
I have some members in the household who do not have the best sight for reading. Due to this, the two iPhone skins' fonts are slightly too small to read. Would it be possible to create a version with a larger font?
Lastly, is it possible to add zone control to the iTouch skin (the one that was made by a user and not part of xpTunes)? It is an awesome skin, but useless to me without zone selection.
Once again, thank you so much for your hard work on this application! If these things get met, I shall be purchasing it soon.

is this indeed an issue caused by xpTunes and more importantly, is there a way to fix it?:

Now, the issue I have is that I also use xpTunes and it seems that it doesn't play well with MC iTunes Synchronizer. Whenever xpTunes is running MCiS is unable to find MC. Same thing if I close xpTunes: it leaves an instance of MC running that MCiS can't recognize (stuck on "Looking for MC 13") and that can't be closed either. The only way to get rid of it so that MCiS can run another "clean" instance of MC -and by that, I mean an instance it can recognize to start the sync- is to kill the Media Center process in the task manager.
Not much I can do about that - must be something to do with the internal workings of MC and/or xpTunes. All I am doing at that stage is requesting a COM interface to MC, if MC denies the request or doesn't respond there's very little I can do. :(
I'm also using Girder and I ran in a problem that could be related. When xpTunes is launched (MC not running) MC appears as a hidden window in Girder's window picker and the executable is MEDIAC~1.EXE If MC is launched on its own (xpTunes not running), the executable is Media Center 13.exe. It looks like MC iTunes Synchronizer will only work if it sees Media Center 13.exe, not MEDIAC~1.EXE

i think it's not a xpTunes problem.
"MEDIAC~1.EXE in Taskmanager /Girder"
if you start MC with a com-object call ( "CreateObject("MediaJukebox Application")"), this is a normal behaviour.
If you start "iTunes Synchronizer", the name will be the same. You can change the name by editing regedit:
Look at the key:
{572802D5-FBF6-4C30-89CA-BDF2CE4AEC2B} / LocalServer32 /
and change the entry to something like this:
Default: "C:\Programme\J River\Media Center 13\Media Center 13.exe"
now you will see "Media Center 13.exe" in the taskmanager.
"Problems with iTunes Synchronizer"
I have the same problems with iTunes Synchronizer.
To test the behaviour, i created a test.exe with a simple com-object (MC) call.
This exe can connect to MC without problems, even MC was started by xpTunes.
So i think the problem must be something with MC or/and iTunes Synchronizer.
Workaround:
First start MC, then wait 10 sec then start xpTunes and iTunes Synchronizer.
I think you can do this with a simple cmd-file.

Apparently that was not the solution. :-\
Even after removing xpTunes from the MC13 folder and reinstalling MC14 again
(to insure it was the last version to be installed, as this seemed to make a difference in the past with MC12/MC13), xpTunes is sometimes tied to MC13 rather than MC14 as I desire.
The determinating factor looks to be which was started running first. I've replaced MC13's Library Server with MC14's at Windows startup as a workaround.

- If MC is started, xpTunes will use this version.
- If no instance of MC is running, xpTunes will fire a 'start' event (createObject) to MC. Now it's MC's responsibility to start the right version. If two versions are installed, I think MC will start MC13.
You can point MC to another version by changing the regKey "{572802D5-FBF6-4C30-89CA-BDF2CE4AEC2B}" / LocalServer32 to the right version. At this time you will find a regvalue like "C:\PROGRA~1\JRiver~1\MEDIAC~3\MEDIAC~1.EXE".

Do you need a soundcard on the machine serving the files for this to work? I have my main instance of MC running on a HP Mediadmart server which doesnt have a soundcard.

xpTunes enables you to take control of MC from a far. If you only want to browse your library you don't need a soundcard. If you want to play songs you have to install xpTunes on a PC with a soundcard. You only need a web browser to run xpTunes, the latest video is just an iPhone optimized skin.

I’m trying to modify the wonderful xpTouch for my purposes. Everything has gone fine except for I’m trying to copy your “refresh” button in the options panel and put it into an ordinary list on a page, like so:

When I click it, the refresh works fine ( I can see it happening on MC) but then the page changes to the black splash-page with “xpTunes” on it – and never comes back.
Any idea why this would be?

I have ver 200 running on PC and can access it from other pc's but cannot follow you directions on getting it to run on Iphone.... I am running MC 13 and 14 on PC. not finding visualizations folder in either 13 or 14 and so no luck.

Yes, this works for remote laptop, the big problem is defining which MC will open.
If MC13 opens then I cannot play from the server to my laptop with the music playing on my laptop.
It will work with MC14 provided I am on the same network with both computers. I have not tested the solution from outside the network but only when MC14 get sellected by xptunes. It may select by "last one loaded" I will test further.
My biggest problems so far with xpTunes:
1. which mc opens (13 or 14) when both are installed.
2. No ability to use xpTunes to shuffle or not from the iphone.
Again, a fantastic product.

2) installed MC V14.0.50 (trial)
3) set MC to run remote server on port 80
4) restarted MC
5) ran xpTunes from the uzipped folder (xpTunes2.zip)
6) left xpTunes on auto - it inserted the laptop IP address. Set port to 8080. xpTunes window says "settings loaded"
I cannot connect from this laptop or any other computer on the network (they do share files)
Tried IP address or computer name followed by :80 http://192.168.123:80 or http://mylaptop:80
No connection with xpTunes running or not running.
Also tried ports 8080 and 8082 in xpTunes and MC14. No connection. Restarted windoze, no connection
So how do I know the remote server is running on MC14? Why can't I connect to xpTunes? Have I missed a step, done something wrong?
Do MC and xpTunes need to be set to the same port? Different ports?
WinXP pro. Firefox or Opera browser. Firewall set to allow xpTunes on different ports.
Any ideas or help are most welcome! I've tried all I know.

first some short hints:
1.) xpTunes should run with MC 12 Jukebox too.
2.) you don't need the remote server to run xpTunes
3.) you should use a ipAddress (http://192.xxx.xxx.xxx:8081)
4.) you should connect to the specified xpTunes port (perhaps try port 8085)
5.) Check your ipAddress (your mentioned ipAddress "http://192.168.123:80" is not valid, should something like http://192.168.178.1:8085)
You extract the xpTunes2.zip on a local folder ?
Perhaps (like Jim mentioned) firewall settings ? (disable firewall on both PC's (only for testing))
You also can try to connect to xpTunes on the same PC where xpTunes is running.

Thanks Jim and Marcus. I did get it running. Both the MC14 server and xpTunes.
What did re-read the wiki entry and tried again.
Set MC14 to port 80
Set xpTunes to port 8082
Changed the name of the computer.
Can now log in via the computer name from anywhere on the network to either MC14 or xpTunes
It works great. Not sure how I got it so messed up. Will try xpTunes without the MC14 server running. If that works, I'll go back to my old MJ 12, as it works well for me and I like it.
Oh, for the IP address - if I need it - it should be the IP address given on the ISCP page of xpTunes, not my computer IP address, then?

No, you will find the IP address on the first page (with buttons 'start/stop server, settings , exit).

I had a few problems getting xptunes (v2) to work with the current version of JRMC14 (.079).
I had to enable MC to start windows with media server running.
Otherwise xptunes would report a COM error when starting. I didn't think this was how it was supposed to work. I checked the regkey posted above, and it was pointing to the correct folder.
Anyway, I got it working.
However, I would like to know how I can get xptunes to behave the same way as my previous installation (MC 13 with xptunes 1.6). That is, when selecting genre or artist on the ipod touch, it displays all the songs, instead of the albums as it used to.
How do I change this back?

The problem is that with ver 2, when I select genre, it behaves as
genre -> tracks
I don't get to select the artist -> album.
I can fix it by copying an older version of the itouch code over the top of the ver 2 code. But I think this causes other problems - ie it is slow to select some things.

By way of a further update, I just completed a win 7 install (upgrade after formatting the disk)
I still have the same problem with genre -> tracks.
I also have a bug where when a song is added, it doesn't start playing, even though the option 'start playing when files added to playing now' is selected. This feature works when a file is added within jriver, and it also used to work with the previous version of xptunes
. I am using jriver ver 14.0.88
Is it necessary to install ver1 of xptunes first, then the updates over the top?
I only extracted xptunes ver2 to a new directory c:/program files/xptunes in this installation.

works like expected.
I think it's the best way to show/search for a song. In JR you add a genre to a track and not to an album/artist.
Perhaps my problem is not clear.
Think on something like an album with values:
Artist: "Artist ABC"
Album: "Album what ever"
Tracks:
1.) Song A -> POP
2.) Song B -> POP
3.) Song C -> POP
4.) Song D -> Dance
5.) Song A -> POP
...) Song x -> POP
If we think something like
"genre -> artist -> album -> track"
or with example values:
"Dance" -> "Artist ABC" -> "Album what ever"
What do you expect: "4.) Song D -> Dance" ?
Hey, you selected the album "Album what ever" and now only one track is shown ? ;-)
or do you expect all tracks of the album ?
First we select the genre "Dance" and now you want all "POP" songs too ? ;-)

You are using xpTouch ? I just tried it with 14.0.90 and everything works fine. If youclick on "add" the track is added to the end of "playing now". If you click on "play" the song will be added to the top of "playing now" and starts playing.

No, just extract all xpTunes 2 files. I would recommend to first delete all old files (xpTunes x).

I am not sure if I made the problem clear, or if you say that is how it's supposed to work.
So i'll try to explain again.
The problem is that with ver2 of xptunes (ver 1 and 1.6 were fine).
When I select genre from the touch/iphone theme it displays a list of genres (that's ok). Then I select a genre (eg. pop). It then displays ALL the songs of that genre (about 87 pages), this makes it hard to find a song.
It does not first display the artists in the pop genre. That is what I meant by genre-> songs. It does not give me the option of selecting artist and albums.
Are you saying that this is the behaviour that is expected, and what you changed it to in ver 2?
I still have the problem that if the 'playing now' list is empty, then I ADD a song, it does not start playing automatically. If I do the same thing in MC it does play automatically, as that is what is supposed to happen when 'start playing when files added to playing now' is selected.
Again this feature worked correctly in the previous version of xptunes and jrmc 13.

OK I think I understand your post that genre -> track is by design.
I can use a previous version to get it to behave the way I prefer.
I have tried xptunes v1.05, v1.6 and v2.0 with MC 14. A couple of things changed with the update from MC 13 to 14.
Firstly, the behaviour with 'start playing on add to now playing' worked on ver 13 and doesn't on 14. Is there anything that you can do about this?
Also with ver 13 when turning the ipod touch to landscape mode it would show the now playing screen. This does not work with ver 14. In fact it doesn't actually display landscape mode correctly, let alone change to the now playing screen.
Again is there anything you can do about this? Or is it a MC 14 bug?

I think I can fix my issues as posted above by reverting to MC 13. However, I would prefer to find a fix for v14, as the interface in xptouch is improved with v14.
I have another request with the behavior of xptouch.
Would it be possible to get xptouch to use the 'behaviour' settings in the general options of MC.
My problem is that in the view of an album there is an add button, but if you tap the song title it plays it straight away, adding it to the top of playing now. I would prefer the 'Add to Playing Now (play next): Adds the file in the Playing Now playlist as next to play' behaviour.
Many times people have accidently tapped a song and it plays, but also causes MC to go back to the start of the playing now list. For a long list this can be annoying.

I have been using v0.08 for ever, and just now tried V2. It looks and works great, but in V2 my Queue, Playlist, search result (i.e. Files) etc. pages all only show one page of results. The page indicator between the up/down arrows on the right side always says "1/1", and if I click on the up or down arrows, nothing happens.
In V0.08 the page indicator was correct and I used the arrows to change pages. Does anyone else have this behavior?

The software looks great. I have a few comments:
1. Is it possible to increase the resolution of the iphone skin so that the text is a little bigger. I am browsing using motorola droid which has screen resolution of 854x480 on 3.7" screen and the text is too small to select the menus.
2. Can I just see a list of Genres instead of index (A, B, C etc.). Index makes sense for artists as one may have many. But, I only have 10-12 genres total and it is just one added step to select the one that I want.
3. Why does selecting a Genre show all the songs in that Genre? In some Genre's I have 5000 songs! This is just not easy way to browser. I would like to see Genre/Artists/Albums hierarchy and only on the lowest albums hierarchy - I would like to see individual songs.

I did some more testing by going back to MC 13 and xptunes v1.00.
The landscape mode (where rotating the ipod touch (firmware v2.2.1)) only works in xptunes v1.00.
ie that is the one version where it will display playing now in landscape mode. In all other versions landscape mode is displayed incorrectly.
I could not find a version where 'start on add to playing now' worked correctly. So it must have been only in a MC version older than 13.0.171.
Would it be possible to get the landscape mode working again?

I did some testing about the landscape switch.
I use MC 14.0.96, IPodTouch with FW 3.0, XpTunes 1.08 and xpTouch 2.00 as skin (added to the homescreen).... and everything works fine.
I think you should first update your IPod/IPhone FW and add xpTouch to the homescreen. IPod FW below 3.0 doesn't provide the landscape mode (if you start an application over a homescreen button).
'start on add to playing now' -> should only start playing, if the "Playing Now " queue is empty, or ?

everything can be done in the Android.css (html/xpTouch/css/Android.css)
To increase the text size just add the following lines to the end of the file and change the value "font-size" to 22px (or more):
body > ul > div > li,

font-size: 16px;
font-weight: bold;
}

Would it be possible to link the volume controls of xpTunes (xpTouch) to an external application like EventGhost? The idea is to be able to control the volume of an ampli with an IR receiver/emitter like usb-uirt.

Just open "xpTouch/index.html" and change "callUrl('SummaryGenre.html');" to "callUrl('Genre.html');".

I was just thinking of having only one interface (xpTouch) for volume control of my ampli when I use the Media Center (I prefer to keep the computer volume at the same level).
I guess it's harder than just tweaking some css file to call EventGhost?

Just change "onclick="command('volup','5');" to "onclick=triggereventghost('volumeup');".

the right command is "triggerEventGhost" (watch the upper case).
so pls change to ->
onclick=triggerEventGhost('volumedown');
and yes your are right, you should see something like "Main.volumeup" in the log (left window) of EventGhost, if you use the - or + buttons (portrait mode).
To use this feature in landscape mode you have to change "PlayingFull.html" in the same way.

Having investigated further, I guess it works as you expected, but not as I expected :)
What I was originally requesting was for the tap of the track title to add the song as next to play in the playing now queue. The reason is that people unfamiliar with the interface regularly tap a song title, instead of tapping add. When they do this, the song they have tapped starts playing, and adds itself to the start of the playing now queue. Hence, when the song has finished, the playing now queue is repeated from the beginning - this can be annoying.
What I would prefer, is having the option, as in MC, of enabling 'double click: add song as next to play'. Obviously for xptunes it would be 'tap: add song as next to play'.
Alternatively, do nothing when a song is tapped.
When 'add song as next to play' is selected in xptunes, when you tap 'add' it adds the song as next to play. i guess this is what you intended.
Could you explain it a little more?
I would prefer the genre behaviour as seen in the xptouch skin. that is genre -> artist -> ablum -> track. Instead of genre -> track. But this is not a big deal, as generally the ipod will be used for selecting songs, rather than the xgadget.
A nice feature might be to be able to expand xgadget to fullscreen to show what is playing.

Just started trying out xpTunes and so far it is fantastic! I love the Windows Gadget too, it is one of the nicest I've seen. I've been looking for a multi-room music interface I can use via PC, iPod Touch, iPhone, and soon an Android phone. I use XBMC as my main media player and EventGhost as the IR/Serial controller and plan to use MC for my multi-room music - I think xpTunes will be the lynch-pin to make MC usable for me.
I'd like to make a few feature requests I hope you will consider...
TrackInfo skin:
a) can you have the currently playing song in the list be highlighted? I know it is scrolling but it helps quickly identify it.
b) can you add some cell buffer to the bottom line of text? The frame is right on the bottom of the characters.
Optional Home screen & Macro buttons
- Since you added an EventGhost interface I think it would be great to take full advantage of it. There could be an optional Home screen with user defined buttons (e.g. defined in separate XML/INI) that would send EG commands, JRiver commands, and then switch you to the necessary xpTunes screen.
Example...
"Listen on Patio" button
triggers:
(1) EG - turn on patio amp
(2) EG - set volume on amp to 60
(3) EG - turn off other amps
(4) xpT - enable zone = 'Patio'
(5) xpT - Switch to Playlists screen
Please let me know if you think these are reasonable?

I am tweaking the HTML a little to use on a tablet PC so I can control MC with a nice elegant browser UI. This will come in handy especially at parties with party-goers who always seem to have an issue with the Theater view interface and remote control... Now they can just point and click using the tablet PC (or their own laptop!)
Anyways... my question: I needed to get past the 20-item limit in the eval version so I paid for a full version on the xpTunes website (clicking from within the XPTunes title page)... but have not received a code, link, or anything.... Did I go about this incorrectly?

Can you put in a user setting option to have it xpTunes with an alternative page? Maybe have the user specify a page name... this way they can set the page to the default (one that you created) or their own page. This would make it so when you come out with updates, we don't need to modify anything, it just works. Cool?

What are the limitations of the Demo version?
I would gladly pay for the full version if it would've worked on my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.
Right now both included (demo) skins render too large on both the default Nokia browser and Opera Mobile. I noticed that there are several css files for xpTouch skin (Android, iPhone, etc) - what are they? how can they be switched?

the several css files are loaded browser dependent, that means if you using an IPhone the iPhone.css is added to brower_switch.css, if you are using a "Android-Phone" the Android.css.
I can add the possibility "Nokia500.css", but the main problem is to tweak the css.
I only have these both devices, so it's hard to optimize the css to a third device.
If you post some pictures of xpTouch running on your Nokia, i can take a look.

Actually, I found that the zoom was set to 140% in both browsers. xpTunes looks better now on my Nokia 5800. Still not perfect, unfortunately.
FYI: its screen is narrower but longer/higher then iPhone - 360x640. For this reason the screen doesn't get filled completely.
For native/built-in browser xpTunes picks up the iphone css. Looks nice but the browser, for some reason, not always shows all the graphics.

For Opera almost everything looks right except the screen again is not filled up completely in the vertical direction and some list items look messed up. It also uses different icons/glyphs from iphone css.

Couldn't figure out how do increase the height of the list items... Could you please point me in the right direction?

Looks like it adds more to browser_switch.css from android.css (or empty iphone.css), right? What if I use a different device/browser? Confused.. ? I added a Nokia500.css. then it's much easier to tweak css file.
A css file discribe the style of one or more html elements.
The xpTunes html files mostly includes a body tag ('<body>'), group block-elements/division ('<div>') and some elements like lists (unorderd lists '<ul>') and list items ('<li>').
The <div> tag is often used to group block-elements to format them with styles. li elements are childs of unorderd lists.

If you think, you understand my last post (html/css demo), then create a new folder in "xpTunes/html" and call it e.g. "test".
Then copy your created test.html in this folder and browse with your Nokia Phone to this page (http://yourIP:yourPort/test/test.html).
Now you can tweak the css values in test.html and with a page reload, you will see the new result....
forget the browser_switch thing:-)
just copy the whole android.css entries to the end of browser_switch.css and only tweak this 'new' values with your just found values...

Thanks! Your html example didn't quite work, though... I do know a little bit about css, just on a very basic level.
I did manage to mod the layout to suite the 5800 better. Not everything but I am going in the right direction.
Still.. I don't understand why some elements look differently in different browsers. For example, the Back button (top left corner of the top tool bar) - in one browser it looks like iPhone-style button, in another browser it's just text-looking button. ? Also - the android.css (again - sorry) - I suppose it's not handled automatically (or is it?) - one needs to manually paste it's content to the end of browser_switch.css, right?

If you're using a Android Phone then it's handled automatically... otherwise this css is not needed. Just rename the file and take a look what's happening.

Got it... there's a standard css language and every browser manufacturer add his own commands to this standard.
Safari/WebKit (iPhone) added a css-command "webkit-border-image". FF has the same command, but another name for this ('-moz-border-image').
Welcome to web 2.0 ;-) . If you want to support both browsers (iPhone/FF), both command has to be in your css file.... ( in standard css it will be named 'border-image').
xpTouch is optimised for iPhone/iPod touch.... you will find the command 'webkit-border-image' in the css file. Just duplicate all 'webkit-border-image' entries and rename the new values to ''-moz-border-image''.

Just installed xptunes and it looks very useful ..but I have a problem in that the transport controls ie play. stop track skip + and - volume dont all display.Its random - somtimes three of the six display, next time you run it you might get 4 or 5, but never the same combination. The ones that dont show up display a small blue box with a question mark in it.
The other thing is the time to load the program is very long 2-3 minutes is that normal ? I've changed the port # , but no improvement.(I'm just testing so only have 10 CDs on there at the moment)
System is MC14 on XP Pro 1.8 core 2 duo 2 Gb ram, NET framework 3.5 sp1, wifi from Apple Time Capsule.iphone 3GS Safari, latest firmware (non jailbreak)

I've never heard about your problem before, so i think it should be something with your setup/environment.
Seems to me like connection problems. Normally the start of xpTouch should not take longer than 10 sec and to load a new new page about 1 sec. A small blue box with a question mark is shown, when a picture is not found or not transfered.
What happens, If you connect to xpTouch with a deskop PC and FF or Safari (you can't test xpTouch with IE)?... are your sure, that your iPhone is using your wlan connection correctly ?
Something special, like very big album cover arts or your files stored on a second pc/nas?

Yes, both browsers (built-in and Opera) render the picture OK.
Don't know if it's important - they both show that picture binary/sharp, while on a desktop browsers (FF and IE) the picture looks fuzzy

I have been looking at integrating EventGhost and found a, hopefully small, roadblock. EventGhost only detects track changes from MC.
Not knowing how your code works and how the MC commands are stored but I'm hoping this is not too large feature request...
Is there a way that you can automatically send EG a status for all commands sent from xpTunes? This way an EventGhost plugin could be written to read the commands and act upon them for more complex EG automation.
I'm hoping you can simply write a function to send corresponding EG status for every web page command sent?

Wanted to try xpTunes today however in xpTunes.exe I have only option to change port while IP address has drop down list with two predefined options 'auto' or 192.168.1.101. Trying to connect to http://192.168.1.101:8081/ or http://192.168.1.101:8082/... etc from other computer or iTouch does not work. Am I doing something wrong?

that's absolutely ok. xpTunes must have the same ip like your pc, so you can't enter a ip.

Got it working - thanks. Turns out computer was acting out, could not ping it...
btw - I decided to import couple of songs into MC while connected with xpTunes. The action has crashed MC and xpTunes could not see any music until computer reboot...

1. What are the limitations of a free version? I am testing at the moment both MC14 and xpTunes so have only about 18 albums imported and noticed that selecting All Titles displays only first 2 pages of titles in alphabetical order (20 in total).
2. Are other skins included in download and if so - how to try them?

All available skins are included in the free version. I'm now working on a better track info skin/plugin (lastFM support and so on).

I answered via PM - here's for others to know - no, the built-in web browser of Nokia 5800 (S60v5) cannot handle any of those pictures.
Opera Mobile 10 beta 2, however, can show all of them and works nicely with xpTunes (I like the clean look of the built-in browser better, though).
I tested 2 more browsers - Skyfire and Digia@Web - neither of them could handle the base64 pictures and totally screwed up xpTune's layout.
Looks like Opera Mobile is the best browser for S60v5.

I've been having issues with MC14 crashing, for several releases now. I have tried to get EventGhost to start it but problems there too. Starting MC with EG gives me this error: "media center installed for a different operating system"
I have verified that if I run mc14.exe /Power it start perfectly fine, no error.
Can you add a routine in xpTunes to check every 5 mins or so to see if MC is running, if it is responding and if not started, start it - if it is not responding kill the process and restart? This would really help!

It's probably not a good idea to mask the problem. If it's a problem with MC, we will fix it.

I agree it should be fixed IF it is an MC problem, I'm not sure it is. Though the feature is still need in xpTunes since, as you know, apps crash... sometimes it is their fault and sometimes it is the OS or or apps that cause them to crash. So to safeguard against all possibilities if xpTunes watches MC and EventGhost or <fill in your favorite watchdog app here> watches xpTunes all should be fine.
I mainly use MC as a background app to run my whole house music. I'm going to setup a 21" multi-touch touchscreen LCD to use MC 'jukebox' style - I have not gotten to it yet (I already have the monitor). It is important in both cases that MC is always running.

I'd REALLY appreciate if you can try to find a fix and/or work around for this - xpTunes and/or MC cannot be launched with EventGhost. (no issues with other apps and EG - I start several using EG)
Tests, Results, Observations...
- xpTunes DOES start but is not usable. ThexpTunes process loads (shows in Process Mgr), xpTunes tray icon does not show, and xpTunes tries to start MC but MC throws that darn "...different operating system" "Please reinstall Media Center"
- manually starting xpTunes and/or MC is never a problem
- maybe the issue is user context but I have EG start many apps, and many people use EG to do so daily and I've never seen anyone have an issue with any other apps with EG.
This is killing me. MC is way unstable on my system when idle... never an issue when in use, strange, I know.

Update #3 - FOUND WORKAROUND...
Once I set xpTunes to 'Windows XP SP3' Compatibility Mode everything works as expected.
So, there is definitely some issue with xpTunes & MC14.exe - with Windows 7 (maybe just x64).
Anyway... maybe you guys can figure it out. Either way, if the watchdog functionality was built-into xpTunes it would also solve the issue.

About a month or so ago, we disabled redirection. Previously, registry writes to HKLM and disk writes to C:\Program Files\... would get redirected by Windows so your code might think they worked. But then your code wouldn't find what it wrote if the program were run elevated since then you'd be looking at the real HKLM and not the pretend redirected one.
So make sure you open HKLM as read-only or you might get failures.
Disabling this redirection actually caused us a recent bug as well because we were writing to HKLM for remote controls. But in the long run, it's better to fix these issues than depend on Windows compatibly redirection, especially since the redirection can lead to really confusing scenarios if you mix running elevated and not elevated.
Could it be related?

Hi, may I ask how can I play a web stream (internet radio) imported as an album or playist with xpTunes?
I can double click and play with the JR interface but though visible in xpTunes using iPod Touch, tapping on it won't play.

Thanks for the response and please excuse my lack of not mentioning I like everything about your app and wasn't trying to be negative about the Genre thing. Your thread is long and I was feeling a little frustrated as I had read many pages trying to find an answer to that one.
xpTunes loads and searches very fast and I do really like the way everything is broken up alphabetically. That is exaclty how my HD is set up with my audio and music videos and the way I use Rockbox on my H320. Hope you do not change that.

Looking at MC Remote Control from a WinMo 6.5 Phone (Touch HD with a 480 x 800 pixels, 3.8 inches screen). I've tried the following browsers with the
- IE : Slow, Pic Load fine, Format looks correct but everything to the right of "Artist" in the top menu is off the screen, controll buttons at the bottom are in a tiny frame that is hard to scroll in. Menu text is small and not finger frendly (have to peck at it with the stylus).
- Opera : Faster but does not load all the Pics (eg none of the Themes), Top Menu is displayed as a list in a white box (small and hard to pick at), play controls are in a white box at the bottom and non accessable.
Any suggestions on what is the best combination of Skin, Browser (and Version / settings) to try on a WinMo 6.5 phone with a 480 x 800 pixels, 3.8 inches screen?

Nevertheless, I have 2 issues:
1. When the server is running, MC 14 closed, and I push the play button on my keyboard, it plays music. In general, it is when I want to play a dvd in MediaTheatre, so, I just want to control MediaTheatre, not MC...
2. I have an icon on my bar (I run W7), and when xptunes is running and I click on it, it says that it is running but does not open the interface, which would be nice. I have to go through the icon hidden in the right corner, which is not convenient as I have a touch screen.

Just installed xpTunes version 2 and am using my iPhone to control MC. For the most part, it wokrs great and I have upgraded to the paid version. I may have found one small bug:
I have two PCs. The first has all of the music files and MC running library server. The second is a HTPC which a client of the media server, playing through the main room's sound system.
xpTuns works fine to control the server PC. It can browse the library and play songs on the server machine.
It has problems controlling the HTPC machine. I can pause play and I can advance to the next track in playing now. I can also browse the music library. But when I try to play a song, nothing happens.
I don't have this problem when controlling the server PC. So, I suspect there is a small problem when it tries to play songs on a PC using a remotely served library rather than a local library.

I think yes (and some more features like searching & faster page loading), but library browsing (video, images) is only available with the skin "xpTouch" (at this time).
Just try the demo version. it's free and it gives a good overview.

Hi! First, thanks for the new version, working great!
I've added a page inside the xpTouch interface to display the lyrics of the songs playing. I use LyricWiki for this and it's working fine enough (see attached image ).
It's pretty basic as the code shows below:

Well I've finally got the hardware i need to run all this, but can't get xpTunes to run! arrggghhh,
Here is the low down:
I got V2.0 and the new Alpha to run and work just fine on my laptop. No problems controlling Jukebox on the same computer. Good.
But now I have tried to run xpTunes on my new "music server" PC and it fails to load. I get this error message The application failed to initialize properly. (0x0000135) Click on OK to terminate application
Any idea what this error might be, or why it would run on 1 XP machine but not on the other?
Both computers run Windows XP Pro V2002 SP3 xpTunes was installed on both from the same downloaded file. I was not asked for a password or code.
Do you think the new computer might be missing a DLL or other file? It's a clean install. Maybe some network settings?

I noticed a strange problem. With xpTunes 2.20 starting with Windows XP SP3, I'm not able to use the weblinks inside MC15(.0.57) (Google, images, Youtube,...) neither the feature of artist images showing in the background of Theater View Playing Now... unless I restart xpTunes.
If I start xpTunes manually at the start of Windows, It works ok.
Am I alone in the situation? What can I do?

The behaviour I get is a brief glimpse of the safari browser and then it disappears.
If I go into safari and access through a regular bookmark it works fine.

You can modify the index.html in the xpTouch folder to suit your needs.
You should have a try with the demo version.
I don't think you'll be able to wake up your pc within xpTouch as it needs to connect to the server side which will be off!

Yes, but you have to use a static ip (PC & router) and you have to forward a port (router) the xpTunes server.

Hi, its me again!
How can i get more items per .html page?
I copied the xptouch html folder into bw folder to have a second xptouch version for my other devices with bigger screen sizes than iphone.
Changed in the audio.xxx.html files the maximum item to 20 and now i get 11 and one quarter items in my browser...
I also changed the cover size from 35 to 70, but that didnt changed anything.
Seems that the size and number of columns (rows?) is limited (in xptouch at least)?

pls tell us more about your configuration.
What skin you are using ? which firmware do you have on your iPhone ? Did you try with your desktop pc (use firefox or safari to test) ? you are using the latest xpTunes version ?

I've added a page inside the xpTouch interface to display the lyrics of the songs playing. I use LyricWiki for this and it's working fine enough (see attached image ).
It's pretty basic as the code shows below:

Hi, sorry to come back with this lyrics thing but I feel a bit frustrated since the solution proposed doesn't work (LyricWiki page truncated). I tried finding some other solutions but I think that my little html knowledge is not enough.

First things first, great app and these are not just hollow words :o
It seems to full fill all my wildest dreams. I especially appreciate that it can be customized to your personal preferences, although this means I will need to pick-up some javascript skills.
My only concern is the following, a good app needs to be wife-prove, meaning the wife needs to be able to work with it smoothly as well. I'm running the client on an iPod Touch and what is a bit of a problem is that you don't see when buttons are clicked (I know this is a bit of a silly remark/request) but nontheless it lets you doubt whether you didn't press it correctly or whether the signal wasn't received by the server.
So before I dive in the javascripting, is this something similar someone already has done, maybe there is a skin that does the same ?
Also, not sure whether this is possible though due to the architecture, but would it be possible to use the ipod/iphone volume controls (buttons) to adjust the volume - don't think it is.

I tested Zone playing on my network with a Philips Streamium NP2900 (DLNA compliant) and it's pretty impressive.
The only thing is I can't get the volume control to work (tested on 2 PCs, one with a fresh install of xpTunes (xpTouch) 2.20). The volume works with MC15's WebRemote (Library Server, DLNA Server and DLNA controller enabled under Media Network options).
Any idea of what could be wrong?

How about a central server that stores the users ip's for reconnecting? Can't take much bandwidth just to up/download an IP. It's a person to everytime reenter the IP when the server resumes from S3/reboots .
Give every local server an unique ID, store it on the central server and that devices can just request a refreshed IP from the central static server.
That way a client can always reconnect to the server no matter how dynamic the local servers IP.

Unfortunately not. I run through a SSL tunnel. Static address can't work. My router doesn't see the connection. For my personal use (i just needed a simple stop/start) i just put a connector on my website, upon startup my server and client look it up there.
But i guess my request is to rare to go through the trouble. If you want i can sanitize my C code and give it to you?

I have two questions about xpTunes.
1. You refer to a free version limited to 20 tracks and, by implication, a not-free version. I see nothing about the not-free version here or on your site or in Google.
2. Is there a version for the iPad? I understand that the iPod version will display but is there a version designed for the iPad?
I hope to try xpTunes soon.

I have configured two xpTouch skins behaving differently following the zones (server-side or DLNA), is it possible to switch from one to the other when I choose the zone within xpTouch.

Yeah. Thought so. But i solved it by registering a dynamic DNS service for my server. Costs a few dollars, but saves me retyping the addresses all the time.

Great product. A couple of minor changes would make it fantastic.
I have used the Gizmo product, yours is better, but.....
Say I have a queue playing and want to add a song.
So I go to Search, search for the song
Find it, Not my selection is one of two on the screen
If I select "add" then I get a screen asking
"add as next to play" or "add to end" or "close"
this is great, but instead of hitting "add" I hit the song title,
Then the song starts playing immediately and starts the queue at beginning again after the song plays.
This is a big problem if you are using this at a party with lots of people looking and selecting.
If the "add" was removed and the only selection was to choose the song you want from the list,
Then had the choices that you get when you currently select "add"
Plus an addition choice or two.
The choices always being:
"Replace Queue and play immediately"
"add as next to play"
"add to end"
What would be really good would be to configure this in setup.
so for a party, the first two options ("replace queue" and "add as next to play") password protected so that only the host (admin) could select.
The other suggestion is in the "location"
I have 60,000 songs, when I select "title" and select a letter, say "J" I get hundreds of screens to toggle thru. Is there a work around?
Last would be the ability to select "play here" to play on the iphone direct.
that could be an option under "zones"
Please, understand, I think this is a wonder app and the best, only trying to make it better....

Thank you for the kind words! That's good to hear that other people loves xpTunes/BitRemote too.
I use it nearly every day, so if it makes sense and the community will benefit, i will add new features (if possible).
Sometimes it isn't easy to find a solution for a "simple to use" GUI and a GUI which have all possible features, but i will have a look what's possible.

I see your problem with more then 60.000 music files... but i don't have a solution (you already use the touch events to scroll to the next pages ? (http://www.bitremote.com/software/BitRemote.pdf.zip)).

But the problem with selecting the song and it automatically starts up and restarts the que is a problem.

No matter what you select to play, you should get the options:
1 - Replace que and play (playlist, artist, album, song)
2 - Add to current que at end
3 - Add to current que as next to play leaving the que and the current song in place.

Any headway on my request for xptunes?
This is a killer product and would be even better if the code were changed to require a selection when you click on a song, playlist, artist, album, etc by offerring 3 possibilities:
1: Play as replacement for queue
2: Add to queue at end of queue
3: Add as next to play in the queue
currently 2 and 3 are done, but 1 currently when you select the item it plays immediately at the top of the queue and starts the queue all over. Certainly not what would be intented.

I went with mc16 and uninstalled mc15 this morning. Now xptunes does not work.
How do I start Media server with port 8081 open so that xptunes will see it.
I know, dumb question, but I am struggling with this.
Major party tonight and I need this to work.
I have media server running in background, and xptunes running, with the correct ip address.
I believe the problem lies with mc16 as mc15 worked perfectly.
I just need a setting to make it work.
I have xptunes set to 192.168.1.5:8081 and the test from within xptunes will not find mc16
my machine address is 192.168.1.5 so what am i doing wrong. I believe it has to do with the port 8081
this has always worked before with mc15
If anyone can help I would appreciate a reply.

It does NOT appear that xptunes can see the MC16 server. it is running,

What happens, if you use your local browser (on the same pc like xpTunes) ?
One hint:
you don't need the Media Server to run xpTunes.
Perhaps a new MC16 installation will solve your problem.

It is now working, not sure what caused it to start working, I have rebooted, stopped mc16 restarted it, and so forth, but nothing seemed to work.
This time I started mc16 and then started media server (started by going to tools-> advanced tools -> media server. I guess it does not start automatically.
It is working, again, not sure why.

Hi,
I hope BitRemote is still in active development.
Altough it's pretty complete, I think there is room for improvements:
- volume slider
- position (slider)
- move files inside the queue (can already be done with add+delete)
- filter the queue
- reorder the files in the queue (by...)
- new view: queue full list (for better visibility)
- Playing Now cover flow!
Anyway, it remains the most complete remote control solution (beating MC developpers' Gizmo).

Received the following error message when computer restarted: "The type initializer for xptunes.xpglobals threw an exeption. Upgraded to bitremote and got same error message except it says bitremote.xpglobals threw an exception.
Error message received after normal windows xp upgrades and an upgrade to Avast. Disabled Avast but it did not change the error condition. Any ideas as to what has gone wrong?

a.) install .Net framework again (perhaps it's broken)
b.) install JR
c.) install xpTunes.

Let me start by saying that I am a big fan of bitremote (xptunes)
I am one of your original users. Early on, a great product.
It appears that the development has been zip....
What happened.
You are ahead of the pack in your search process.
A couple of things needed to compete:
view lyrics - need ability to show lyrics as song is playing.
view bio - need ability to view bio as song is playing.
I have used the other two well known competitors of Bitremote and believe you could be the best.
Please spend some time updating Bitremote.
