Title: NEW: Cell phones as remotes and as players
Post by: JimH on April 23, 2010, 09:51:40 am
[Edit by JimH --15.0.49 or above will provide a graphical look for our Gizmo application on Android.  Run Webplay on the phone, install Gizmo, then return to Webplay to select music.  This is still a work in progress.]

MC 15.0.31 introduces several new features that will be of interest to owners of cell phones.  This includes the Android phones, WinMo phones, and iPhones.

(Previous versions of MC14 and MC15 did not work with the Touch or iPhone, but did sync to most iPods)

These features are in an early state and will continue to be polished.

1.  MC15.0.30 has a right click option that allows moving any playlist to an iPhone.

2.  WebRemote allows an iPhone to control a copy of MC from across a network.  This is similar to using a remote for your TV.  Playback is on the PC.

3.  WebPlay allows an iPhone to stream across the network from a copy of MC.  This makes the iPhone a receiver for music from your PC.  Playback is on the phone.

Features #2 and #3 may require a more modern browser than the default browser included with the device.
 Opera seems to work well.

I'm trying to use web remote with my windows mobile phone. I can control and see the playlist, but no thumbnails like in the pictures on this site. How do I get the thumbnail pics on my phone?

Android, please.  With config room so that the upcoming android tablets (Archos, others) will be able to use those large screens to good advantage.

Any chance of enabling old WinCE (iPaq) devices as well?  The last generations of those beauties had very nice screens as well as wifi and web browsers with Java.

I'm sure someone has already asked the question, but if you are looking at large user bases, will there ever be a Gizmo equivalent for iphone? (or if there is one already, what's it called?
