17.0.123 added this new feature:

4. NEW: Image import from cameras (and other devices) now uses WPD sub-system rather than WIA so videos can now be imported as well as photos.

Imports both images and videos from iPhone devices. Select file types to import. Optionally delete from the device after import. Import occurs in a background thread.

Deletion after import still doesn't work on newest version of MC17.
