Title: NEW: Two New Skins Available -- Black on Black and Pearl Bailey

We now have the new skins.  You will need MC17.0.132 or above to use them.  There will be a build that works at the top of this board.

Please report any problems.

Oh no. I'm the only one who hates all black. I find it SO hard on the eyes to read a white font on a black bg.
Noire will still be available, right?

You aren't the only one.  This old skin that mimics iTunes 4.x provides the right level of contrast for my eyes.

I made a few adjustments to the skin, adding window shading in the file list area and the stop button.

We now have the new skins.  Please see the first post in this thread.  A Download link will be posted in a few minutes.

You will need MC17.0.132 or above to use them.  17.0.132 is at the top of this board.

You may still find minor errors, but expect them to be corrected shortly.

When I try to download Black on Black, it is required that I enable Windows Aero. HI don't know what it is and how to find and enable it. Can someone help?

Wow. The black on black was magically installed when I downloaded it, even with the message that I would need Windows Aero.

Black on Black complains about no Aero on my XP system but still seems to work and looks nice.

Pearl Bailey does not complain about Aero but is unusable on XP because unselected tab text cannot be read.

Honestly, at the moment they both look like they need quite a bit more work done to them(Pearly Bailey especially) and the work needed hardly seems minor. This is obviously just a subjective opinion of but one person though, so don't take it too hard. And one more thing, do you plan to include these skins in future MC builds and if so, are you planning on making either of them the new default skin?

I like the Black on Black, but I personally have a big problem with the lack of borders. It all blends into one huge surface, and that just feel wrong. I'm thinking of the lack of separation of the left Tree menu and action window as well as the scroll bars (scroll bars is not THAT important). There is also something wrong with the graphics around the search box. Other than that it looks very good. The same goes for the White one. The lack of borders... And the black Header backgrounds are not good. The contrast is just way to big.

I would use these skins for sure if some of this is fixed.

That sounds like you're not using 17.0.132.

Pearl Bailey looks pretty good. I'll probably stick with that until I finish my own skin :P

Text on inactive tabs is very hard to read though.

Black in black looks great with me.

Using 132, aero enabled, but I seems to have little problem with my font? Some dots before the song name, artist...

Any thoughts?

It's a known issue.  Hopefully fixed in a coming build.

Both of the skins drastically need borders. Pointing over the new tab button on both skins doesn't highlight it. Text in Pearl Bailey's tabs suffer from massive lack of contrast when their not highlighted. You're correct. I had build 123. Search box looks good with 132. I like the dark gray look better each time I see it, but I just don't know if I'll get comfortable with those missing borders. I'll write my opinion in a couple of days.

I actually think that's the borderless approach is very good. Colors on the bright skin (I love the red) are of very good choice. Some EyeCandy with some Contrast coming to JRiver after all: Perfect. Right way to go.

With the black skin especially, the little expandie triangles (norgies) in the tree, to the right of Playing Now, Audio, Video, etc. now look out of place.  They seem more like graphics glitches than UI elements.  I'd like to suggest reconsideration of moving them to the left of the text:

      > Artist
      ...
 > Video

Love the color scheme but I'm not liking the lack of borders. It's just too hard to delineate panes. I wish we could get the top of the black on black theme (blended) on top of Noire.

No.4 has been my staple for years now, but Black on Black looks like it may be replacing it. But I would ditch the windows logo in the upper left corner. Seems really out of place ? Ahhh I see now, it was on Noire just not as noticeable. Hmmm guess I could edit it out if the skin is 'done'. Anywho great skin! Easy on the eyes and now I get to enjoy some areo glass in media center!

agreed.  It is very hard to grab the lower windows to resize.  Also it appears so flat without something there.

Maybe a dark grey for any borders?

I like the skin more and more my self. As many mentions, it would be really nice to have some kind of border for the panels. Especially the arrows for the left tree and action window looks very out of place. I've mainly tested Black on Black.

Yeah, the results of an import are showing dark text on the dark background -- have to manually highlight the text in the dialog box to read it.

Both new skins look stunning!. I always use dark skins, but I have to say that the Pearl Bailey is the best looking bright skin I have ever seen in any Media Player.

Black on Black is pretty incredible, and would replace my longtime default of Noire Glass if not for the lack of borders and row striping.  I get where you were going with it though, obviously given the name. :)

And I really like the lack of borders and subtle scroll bars. Others may not agree but from from my POV please don't fix it.

Sorry, but dont liked "List_GroupHeader" of the skin Pearl Bailey. I changed. I am using "List_GroupHeader" of the skin Noire.

The longer I use black on black, the more I like it. Even without the borders. Great job guys.

Is there a matching track info skin? That would make it complete. 'Coz none of the ones I have untill now matches very well with it.

Same here. I can't find a good match with anything I have. One with cover art and lyrics would be perfect.

Black on black is great for low light, but when I clicked on playlist I was blinded by the screen.  Is there any way to change those screens?

The stars (for rating) are to small in Black on Black and nearly invisible in Pearl Bailey.

The Audio Path button does't light blue as on standard view when no change.
For me the best choice should be standard view but all black (as for example ADOBE PHOTOSHOP or ADOBE LIGHTROOM)
May be one day...
JRMC17 is a great software i tested DSD music files with big success on my DAC

The text on the Summary dialog box when importing is Black on an almost Black background. It should be changed to white.

Copy the folder inside the zipped file to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\J River\Media Center 17\Skins\Standard View

You will need to delete the old skins or move them to a tmp folder.

In a couple of days, these should be on the accessories page.  The ones there now are the older ones.

The text on the import summary page using 'Black on Black' will still be incorrect, but it will be corrected in a coming build.

Look for this change in the history:
Changed: Read-only system edit controls use the same coloring as a regular edit control (which matches how the more common non-system read-only edit controls look).
