Post by: Ekpen on July 26, 2012, 09:40:37 pm
Greetings:
I had registered for  a copy, I need two. The system is preventing me from registering for a second key.

Is there any way to let user select two or three based on what one has on file.
I go through this every year.
I had two MC 17 registrations, will like to pay for another upgrade to MC 18.
Jim, I am waiting for an answer from you, to pay for a second key before the money dries out.

Thanks.

Ekpen.. George.

JRiver generously allows you to install MC on multiple computers using the same key. So no real need to buy multiple keys - but I am sure Jim and the gang would appreciate it :)

I would also assume that this offer is a usually a one to one deal - one license at the special upgrade price - per license upgraded.

Hi There
I purchased MC 17xxx on 21 July 2012 do I qualify for the upgrade to 18?

I should have looked a bit more before posting, I see any purchases of MC17 after July 10th is eligible for free upgrade through 17 & 18
That's fantastic - thank you  :)

I purchased mine on 21st of June. It hasn't even been paid for yet (credit card bill to be paid at the end of this month)  :'(. Here, as a public service to all, is the inevitable pleading for a slightly longer free upgrade period.

I know I could stick with MC17, but that's not going to happen. I firmly expect to upgrade every year. It just feels pretty harsh to cough up for an upgrade before I've even paid for the product!

This happens to a new user here every year... I bought MC15 late in its life cycle. But if it is any consolation, MC18 doesn't really even exist yet. An early copy comes out next month, but features won't be set for another year. Look at it as an opportunity to buy next summer's full set of features for 18 bucks...it's like a software futures option. I'm one of many here on Interact who happily want to pay for the mere idea of an MC upgrade. (Heck, I might even buy an Apple computer now.)

JRiver has an unusual release and payment cycle, but it works. We get to participate in the development process in a meaningful way. JRiver produces a great product in return.

Yes, of course it does. And whatever date is set someone will be just outside. Still, let's have another few weeks free upgrade  :) (then no one will be able to complain  ;) ).

I'm in for the early MC18 purchase, now just waiting til MC18 is available for downloading. Hopefully with MC18, I'll finally be able to burn CD-R's from my library instead of relying on the old MC16 to get my burning needs done (thank God I still had it on my desktop). MC17 was a continuing disappointment in that regard for me personally for the last year.

JRiver still has the best sounding media player of all that I've tried to date.

Cheers,
Robin

edit: the CD burn from WMA has indeed been fixed in MC17! Lotta love the constant flow of software download upgrades that has always been a JRiver trademark.  ;D

Is there a way to apply new reg code to my two other installs of 17, or do I have to wait til the 18 update?

I expect upgrade/regular price ratio should be lower for the favor of present user. Old users shouldn't be forced to choose no-upgrading!

I purchased Media Center 17 only last July 1, 2012. I understand that your promo for the free upgrade to MC18 requires that MC17 be purchased after July 10, 2012 to qualify.

May I request special consideration in my case because my purchase was processed very close to the date of the start of promo period?  :)

Oops, MY bad, I copied and pasted the registration code from an e mail, and there was a period after the number/letter sequence.

I removed the period, and the upgrade price shows up. Keep up the good work.

Sounds a bit unfair !

I just bought my copy at the bargain price of 44,98$,i'm a european customer so with the exchange and Visa costs it will approximately be around 40€.
Everything went well with the payment in Google Chrome and i'm adding all my albums to the library now (will take me a couple of hours but it's worth it)

I really don't understand all this complaining about being just outside the free upgrade date. Most software companies don't offer a free upgrade at all, and many don't even offer a discount, or a very small discount. If you buy MC 17, you get what you paid for, and you can use MC 17 for an unlimited time and pay half price to upgrade to MC 18 if you decide you want the new features of MC 18. It's not as if MC 17 stops working when MC 18 comes out. If I were Jim, I'd probably just remove the whole free upgrade option to stop all these stupid complaints! No matter when the free upgrade cutoff date is, there will always be someone right outside of it whining.

This software could cost $250 for a licence and still be a good bang for the buck.  ::)

Title: Re: Upgrading to MC18 -- Questions and Comments

I have to say that JRiver Media Center is the only software that I buy as soon as I find out a new version is up for sale. Doesn't matter if they give me a list of new features or not. Two reason why I do this.

1. This is the most important software on my PC
2. Almost 100% sure that this will be the lowest price for upgrades

It's always been a no-brainer when it comes to buying MC. I don't think I've had such loyalty to a single product ever before.

Hello:

Will we see the ability to rate songs via Gizmo?  When you have a large library and you use smart lists to get random songs it would be great to be able to rate them for later use.  Gizmo gives us the ability to listen to our library everywhere but not to be able to continue to rate and control it.  If I have missed a step in Gizmo someone please let me know.

Yesterday I bought a license for MC 18 - MC 17 is registered. ;D
To install the new license, I uninstalled MC 17 (complete with reg entries). But when I re-installed MC17, MC was already registered.
So I was unable to install the new mjr file that I got via email. What I have to do to install the new license for MC18?

When MC18 becomes available, just install it and Restore the MC18 license.

The first few builds of MC18 will probably work with your MC17 license so you may need to wait a little.  You'll know when it's time because the program will ask.

"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."

tl;dr Install key does not work.

EDIT: Nevermind, got the proper file via the e-mail. However, for whatever reason, your purchasing site prompts for the download of an exe file instead of an mjr, which leads to the error above. Unwittingly, I wasted one of my restores trying to fix it, but I'm not worried as long as I don't need to restore the program too many times in the near future. Thank you. :)

That's a problem with the browser you're using.  It changes the extension.  Don't worry about restores.  We can reset them.

Now I'm disappointed you moved my comments somewhere else as they were not just about TV watching but MC17 in general...I read in another forum somewhere that "non pro-MC" comments were removed from the interact forums...Is this true?

There is no doubt in my mind that Media Center is a great all around software aimed to please audio enthusiasts like myself and it is obvious that a lot of development effort is put in and focused at the right places.  I have tried many others and so far this is the best there is for my needs.

I don't feel MC17 was mature and stable enough to stop its development and force us to buy MC18 if we want more features and stability...

And what is even more frustrating is that we pay now for something that is not currently available.  Having said that I will STILL proceed with the upgrade to get the discount (that should have been a little more around 10-15 bucks IMHO) and that is because overall I do believe that I get a good bang for the buck!!!

And reading about folks who just purchased it think it would only be fair to them to go back a few months back for the grace period instead of just a few days...

No one is making people buy MC18. This is something that they done for a long time. It's like pre-ordering a game before it's released but at a great discount.

And reading about folks who just purchased it think it would only be fair to them to go back a few months back for the grace period instead of just a few days...

They already have done this, early (beta) releases won't be out for another month or 2 and stable release won't be out for awhile longer. They have to pick a date and stay with it. If they change the date even once it will cause a lot of problems.

Just upgraded using the 'alternate method' and it all went smoothly.  Thank you JRiver and all the beta guys!

Only question: when v18 comes out in a month, will we have to do a license restore to get a new install key, or will the key we received on purchasing be good?

Thanks again.  Wonderful to see one of my favorite products continue to thrive after all these years.

Please download (http://www.jriver.com/download.html) and install MC17.0.  The Download page (link above) has the "stable" build.  A newer, but possibly less stable build may be found in a thread near the top of this board.

Purchase through the Help menu in MC17.  Upgrades are $18.98 through August 10, 2012.  The regular price is $26.98.

If you have already purchased MC17, but would like to purchase an upgrade now, please see the instructions below.

Complete Upgrade Instructions are on our Wiki (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Upgrade_to_MC18)

Need to support all DVD formats including BluRay, without requiring use of third party software.

Need MUCH better tag editing capability. E.g., ability to edit groups of music files. Like changing genre's for hundreds of music files with one entry at genre level, to change or correct genre names for a large group of CDs including all tracks within the CDs. . Changing tag info for all tracks within one CD, with one entry at CD title level. This is more important the more CDs one has. I have 3,500+ CDs, and the ripping software often does NOT capture the correct info - MC's tag editing is far too primitive to help manage a large library of music.

Have version 17. Don't see anything compellingly useful by way of bug fixes if any, and new features, in version 18, yet. What makes upgrading to 18 a worthwhile investment?

I'm not succeeding at the upgrade (tried it once before, gave up that time). Have the registration in a secure database, didn't work, got full price listed as I went to buy upgrade. Can't find email with registration. Can't even find the link to have it sent to me. Getting frustrated.

Sorry, but I can't find the answer to my simple question, although you state that 'instructions are below'.
The question is: I've got MC 17 and bought the upgrade. I received the .mjr file.
Apparantly the first beta of MC 18 isn't available yet.
I 'installed' the key by double clicking it.
Now: will MC 18 import that same key when it's installed?
If no: does this mjr dry up in 2 weeks like always? Or can this one be used with the first install of MC 18, no matter when I install it? I'm going on holiday tomorrow, you see?

Thanks for your time!

When MC18 is available, just install it.  It will recognize the MC18 that you've installed.

Have a nice holiday.

I purchased MC17 in May, and will likely pay this upgrade to get the cheaper price.  I notice that the $18.98 price is available to everyone all the way back to MC10.  I think it would be a nice gesture to the people that have the current version to give them a larger discount.  I see from the boards that many of them pay for these upgrades every year, and having a larger discount for people already on the current version would be greatly appreciated by them (and me) for sure.

Again, I'm likely going to buy at the $18.98 price, just suggesting something to think about...

JR has customer service.  And if your requests match up with their direction then you're set.  But if not, well, don't go holding your breath.  But it's unfair to say they have NO customer service, that's just not accurate nor true.

MC is cheap, even at the full price.   Yeah, we'd all like something about it to be better, and maybe someday that'll happen.  But between now than then paying $20 is pretty cheap.

Sorry, but from what I'm reading here, you'll have to purchase an upgrade to get MC18.  The cut-off is July 10 and you bought MC17 on July 7.  As others have stated here, they had to cut the date somewhere.  It's just unfortunate for you that the cutoff is very close to when you purchased.

Referencing my earlier post, perhaps offering a larger discount to current version users for upgrades would help lessen the pain that people like scuba8 are feeling too...  Again, just an idea.

OK, I managed to upgrade my main PC...Tried to do it on my laptop as well, didn't work, but I don't use that too much for this anyway, so I can leave that for now. Worse, MediaCenter won't play music anymore. I had no trouble before upgrading (well, there was the intermittent unexplained crash, but it generally started right back up...), but now, when I try to play music, I'm getting an error, "something wen't wrong wit playback. Details...playback could not be started on the output "ASIO" using the format '44.1 kHz/64 bit 2ch'. " and tells me to change settings in DSP Studio. I went there, tried changing all the different paramaters I can adjust, which as far as I can see is only the sample rate, and I tried quite a few of them, no help. I think the settings are the same I used with "17", at least I didn't go in to change them. I listen to much FLAC, much of it live/concert recordings, and so far it's non functional. Have to download some other program so I can listen to my music unless someone can help me with the next step or fix (not terribly computer adept).
Thanks-Jack

Im trying to upgrade from MC13 to MC17.  I've gone help, check for updates, MC17 is downloaded and installed.  When I hit purchase, and go through the payment process, i'm asked to confirm the price of $44.95.  No 18.98 or 26.98.  What gives?

I'm on my PC that has a registered version of MC13 running on it.

Product:      Media Center 13.0.172 (registered)

Please help.

It means that no license is installed.  Restore your license from MC13 in MC17 now.

Long form instructions:

1.  Your Registration Codes (permanent licenses) can be retrieved by using option #2 on the Restore Page.  You will receive e-mail from buy-button@jriver.com .

2.  Download and install JRiver Media Center from jriver.com.  Other sites can not always be trusted.

Your license must match your version.  The latest version is here:
http://www.jriver.com/download.html

Older versions are here:
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Old_Versions

3.  Use the Registration Code to do a Restore here:
https://rover.jriver.com/cgi-bin/restore.cgi

Use Copy and Paste to avoid mistakes.  Browsers can sometimes cause problems.  Opera renames the .mjr extension of our Install Key to .exe and this will not work.  IE is reliable.

More information can be found here:

Hi,
In the JRiver wiki, it states "... OR if you purchased MC17 after July 10 2012, the license is an MC18 license ...". I purchased my MC17 license before July 10 (May 26 2012). Am I going to be penalised because I love the program and keenly upgraded as soon as it was available? Am I entitled to an MC18 license? If I'd have known this was the case, I would have hung off buying my MC17 license until after July 10 but that information wasn't available to me then. If I'm not entitled to an MC18 license, that doesn't seem very fair  :'(.

Hi

Something wrong has happend!!!

I've been a Media Center user since many many years.
I tried to upgrade, using alternate metode.

No prices was shown, and after entering my old registration code and my credit card data I got the new key.
Today I got the mail telling me I've bougth a new product for $44.98

I think I was promised another price in your promotion... $18.98

btw. customer issues should NOT be on this forum. Not good.

Please do something about this. I want the upgrade price like I was promised.

Regards
Řistein Rian

Edit: I did a copy paste of my registration code, and ALL my codes from all years contains a space in the end of the code. I think this confuses the upgrade routine.

Why was it decided that the cutoff date would be July 10? Why didn't you make it for anyone who purchased an MC17 license? What is the rationale behind this decision? Are there others in my predicament who got in early and purchased the MC17 license only to be excluded from the MC17/18 license deal? How do they feel about being excluded?
Title: Re: Upgrading to MC18 -- Questions and Comments: mjr install error
Post by: mramsden on August 13, 2012, 08:32:42 pm
Had an issue with the MC18 mjr file on one of my computers. It was only 10d old, so should have worked. It worked on the first PC, where I'd downloaded it. When I went to install in on the second, I got the following error:

Dialog box titled: Information. Content: < Error restoring Media Center License: Unknown Error. >

Tried a new copy of the mjr, got the same issue.

Then tried it on my third pc and had no trouble.

Went back to the second, tried running MC, and an upgrade to v17 happened, which I presume was pending.

After that, the mjr for version 18 worked fine.

So ... the unknown error seems to occur if there is a pending update.

Might be something to add the the new license instructions: run JR first, before trying to run the mjr file!  Or have the above dialog indicate that needs to be done.

..Mike

It is now August 15 and I just attempted to take advantage of the offer but I note that only the regular pricing is mentioned under "purchase" with no indication of the discount or upgrade to version 18 being included. I look forward to becoming a MC paying customer. I was going to go the XBMC Linux route with my HTPC build but opted to try MC because of the MADvr component as part of the RO initiative. I wanted to jump in here and say thanks for offering, yet again, discounted Media Center upgrade pricing.  Music & Movies are a large part of my life.  Media Center has been at the center of it for over a decade, since I first discovered Media Jukebox in 2001.  Doing some simple math, since 2007 (v 13) my cost for this software has been around $2.30 USD per month.  I can't think of any piece of software, nay, any product I have ever purchased that bests the true value of Media Center.

I don't find myself in this mood often, but my fuse for unwarranted bitching and moaning is short today.  If you read on, you might get bored and/or feel some sort of ire towards me.  That's okay, because you've been warned.

[soapbox]

Media Center does what it does collectively better than anything out there.  It's very customizable and flexible, bending to the needs of the most nitpicking and particular of users.  With that said, the price for this flexibility is a bit of complexity.  Notice my qualification, "a bit".  Contrary to what many new users think, Media Center does work great out of the box.  I've installed the trial on a number of friends machines, and they were blown away.  These aren't the types I would consider power users, more like your typical iTunes / Windows Media person who just didn't know there was an infinitely better option.  Then there are the developer types and tweakers I've introduced to this software.  They're universally in love with its feature set and plug-in capabilities.

I guess you can't make everyone happy though.  New users lament that Media Center doesn't behave like (insert title here) in some specific way.  Guess what, that's probably by design folks.  You don't know how lucky you have it that Media Center does what it does without getting in your way, yet providing a path for customization when desired.  Who else does high quality video without getting in your way?  Who else handles hundreds of thousands of files in a collection with aplomb?  Most alternatives (iTunes, I'm looking at you!) just give up and die.  Who else has a viable, non-cloud based client / server streaming setup that, again, doesn't tank with large libraries?  Who else has a straightforward web based API that can be used to create myriad remote / client apps?  Who else has the DSP options and approachable audiophile level features, most notably the recent integration with digital room correction filters.  Who else does tagging as well, outside of a purpose built tagging app?  I saw someone complaining earlier about not being able to tag lots of files with new genre, etc.  Sorry, you're just using it wrong.  The tag pane is easy to use and approachable.  Who else has as powerful an expression engine for making filters / smartlists?  Who else provides a commensurate amount of flexibility in setting up customized views?  Who else provides regular expression based customizable link bars?  Who else provides a good C++/C# API for programmers seeking to develop plugins?

Complainers can pick a couple features out here and there and state, quite accurately, that an alternative does it better.  Perhaps, but you just missed the point.  Who else does all of these things at all, at any level of usability, at any price?  Sheesh, going through the wiki and my own customizations, there are a ton of features I've not even covered.

Then there are the people who like to person about money in one form or another.  I'm tired of seeing people moan about this upgrade price or that.  If you know how to:

.. then you'll have no problem upgrading at the discounted price as I have since 2007.  But guess what?  I would happily pay the full price for Media Center for every major release.  JRiver does so much more right than any alternative, and at a very fair price to boot.  The full price for this product, at both the breadth and depth it covers, is without compare.

Oh, and then there are those who love to complain about support, or their perception of the lack thereof.  Contrary to what some new users think, JRiver do care about their users and providing a good level of support.  Jim is quite possibly the most patient man on earth.  Years ago, he posted about JRiver's philosophy behind forum based support (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=43159.0).  If for one reason alone, I completely agree with using a forum as the basis for support:  Anyone can search it!  Again and again, like a broken record, he refers back to this post to let people know how things work.  For crying out loud, this post is linked directly from the Support Page (http://jriver.com/support.html), as are the myriad options for finding what one needs!  It's such a no-brainer, that anyone who complains about their email not being answered deserves to be outright ignored.  Yet, Jim, Matt or one of the many very dedicated forum users will invariably answer said complainer in an unfailingly helpful manner.

People also like to complain that X feature is not implemented.  Guess what, everyone has to have priorities.  Try developing packaged software like Media Center, much less successfully, and you'll find that JRiver delivers in this area better than most.  Do your reading on feature requests (it's all here in the forum!), how they're evaluated and how quickly Jr. River responds when it is practical to do so.  They are, again, unique in this area.

Still others complain about bugs and instability.  When people report issues, JRiver simply asks for details as to how a case can be reproduced.  "It doesn't work" doesn't help anyone.  Help them help you, and it is very likely your issue will be put to rest.

Ok, so bottom line:  The product is great, the price is outstanding, and the support is better than at most places.  If you still have something to complain about, you're probably never going to be happy... so perhaps move on and let those who are more reasonable people exist in relative peace.

[/soapbox]

It's still the special price.  When you begin the purchase you will see it.
Welcome to the forum.  Download MC17 from our site and install it. There are no problem with Win7 64.

MC18 isn't available yet.

Had MC17 working well.  Bought the upgrade to MC18 and received the code.

Restored MC with new code and everything seems to be fine but when I check MC version from Help, it still says 17.0.182.

Do I have the MC18 or still MC17?

Any specific instruction on playing DSD128fs files through Mytek 192 Stereo DSD DAC with the latest firmware installed?

Thanks,

Ki

MC18 isn't yet available.  When it is, just download and install it.  It won't be long, but early versions won't be a lot different and will be a little less stable.

Thanks Jim for your clarification of the MC18 timing.

Then can JRiver MC17 support DSD128fs to Mytek Stereo 192-DSD DAC?

Thanks,

I purchased my copy of JR MC the other day and received a key code. When I click on the install key code, the program runs through its course and then tells me the upgrade is complete. When I click on the about MC, it shows me version 17.0.182. Am I doing something wrong, or do I have version 18 installed?

Hi,

I've tried since July to upgrade to MC 18 and have yet been able to do so at the reduced upgrade price.  I have gone to the recommended page (http://www.jriver.com/purchase_18_as_upgrade.html) and entered my registration code, but it still comes up with the $49 price.  Can it have something to do with the fact that I am in Germany?

Thanks for thinking of upgrading.

I tried your v17 code and got the $20.98 price.

The code starts with P and ends with 5, like:

I am running MC17 on two PC's and have bought the upgrade license to MC18. I am sure this has been answered but I cannot find the answer....

I understand MC18 will be compatible with OSx and MAC. My primary music system uses an iMac as the front end. I would love to use MC18 on that. Will that require a special download and license when released?? What will be the cost??

Actually, the answer is, the Mac version will be a completely different version. From what I understand, your MC18 license will not work on the Mac version. You'll have to wait for the Mac version (which is audio only for now) to be available to purchase a Mac license.

No cost has been announced as of yet. So yes, separate download and a separate license (for additional cost).

Maybe there will be an option available to anyone w/ MC18 licenses that can get a Mac license on the cheap...

I just purchased Media Center via the Help Menu!  It is the best Media Center Software for my needs.  I payed via PayPal and had to restore my licence key before my registration was recognized.  I hope I followed the right procedure.  My registration code email read:  Registration Code for JRiver, Inc. Media Center 18, Thank you for your purchase of Media Center 18 from JRiver, Inc. for $49.98.  Does this mean I purchased Media Center 18?

Jim ... I purchased MC18 when it was first offered. Yesterday I installed MC 18.0.45 and it worked with my exisiting MC17 licence (Thanks for your reply to my previous thread). You said that early version of MC18 would work with the MC17 licence serial number. When I install a version of MC18 that will not, will I be prompted to enter my new licence?

Everything is running fine with MC18. As I mentioned in a previous thread, I use it for audio replay of FLAC files only so I probably only use 10% of its potential. That 10% is working fine though!

I purchased MC17 in July, 2012. I am trying to do the qualified upgrade, but either I don't understand the instructions, or it is not working.
-The closest I got was an attempt to charge me $40+/-.
Shall I post my registration code here?

Hello,
I've upgraded from mc17 to 18 in August.
Today after installing 18.0.48 i tried to register but license file I received by email after the upgrade is expired.
Restoring from internet using my purchase code I downloaded a file a .exe extension instead of the usual .mjr file.
The problem is that this exe file cannot be run on my Win 7 64bit O.S. so I cannot register with my purchase code....
I'm a little puzzled with this and now I have only 1 day trial!!!!

Please help me!!!

Bye

I am having a replacement HTPC built by Assassin HTPC, to be completed in a week or two. I've already purchased MC 18 upgrade. They are going to install and tweak my versions of Win 7 and MC. What do you recommend about codes and keys in regard to versions and timing. While my media resides on my current HTPC in MC 17, it would be nice to start off with MC 18 in the new HTCP.

Question/Support Please:

Upgraded three of my home pcs from registered MC17 to registered MC18 with no problems. Came to work today and tried two more: my server box and my laptop, both from the same registered MC17. The server update went fine; restored all my settings from MC17. The laptop, not so much. It starts up unregistered and without my library settings having been imported. I've tried uninstalling and rebooting to no success. Did I miss something? Or is there a setting I must clear to make this work properly?

Otherwise, great work! Can't wait to get yet another box setup for my TV! :)

EDIT: NVM, got it! Just made sure this time to have my license file handy to restore, and then Restored my last MC17 library on the Laptop... Just like the Wiki says so! :) My bad. Thanks again!!!

Hello,
I bought JR MC 17 in the 10/12/2011 (Media Center 17 from JRiver, Inc. for $49.98).
Yesterday using the link in the email sent by JR, this is the text: (Good day, JRiver Media Center 18 beta is now available.
This is your last chance to get the early-upgrade discount price.  Upgrade today for $20.98 (the regular price is $26.98).
And if you already upgraded, thank you!) I bought the upgrade for $20.98.
I received the activation code but, when I tried to dowload, I was still required to pay about $46?HuhHuhHuhHuhHuh??
What should I do now?
Thanks

You should have received an activation key by email when you upgraded.
Run MC18.  Go to the Help Menu and click on Register
You should be able to enter the activation key here to register.

Excellent work with v18...very impressed as usual. Only issue I'm having is some remote control weirdness (the pause / play / stop commands intermittently don't work) but I think I just need to re-do the commands.

Keep up the great work and can't wait for the full version!

Purchased MC on Oct 6th and downloaded verson 17.0.186. Had it playing find for downloaded 44.1, 96/24 and even DoP (DSD over PCN 352Mhz. Downloaded the upgrade to 18.0.63 today for which I was eligible hoping to finally get actual DSD 2.8MHz. Installed 18 upgrade then uninstalled 17. Any tracks I select now indicate they are "buffering" and never gets beyond that till I finally get the 'Playback Problem" messsage. Am using ASIO 2.2 to external USB DSD DAC. One error message stated that there might be a problem with Windows Media Center running at the same time so removed it. Another error message stated it might be due to two different users being assigned but I am the only one.  How do I get this to work now?

Turn off bitstreaming, at least until you get everything else working.

I'm defiantely going to upgrade.  I downloaded the upgrade on my pc and had no issues but may wait to install on my htpc until MC 17 stability is achieved now that I have everything working great, thaks be to InflatableMouse.

Can you tell me what sort of "fully configurable" option is planned for theater mode?  I would love to get rid of the tracks and cover art on the sides of the screen when I play audio on theater mode and just have the images.

Also, I would like to get rid of the huge black box in the center of the screen when playing a video, just have the sound and the artist images.

I did not see away to configure this in either 17 or 18.

Ideally if the artist images could appear in a box that could be expanded or reduced by dragging the same as the interface in standard mode that would be ideal instead of only full screen as oftern the picture is cut off.  Some of these items may already be possible and I am jsut unaware.

Thanks for such an excellent program.  Wouldn't listen to HD audio without it.

1. it does nothing for a while and then crashes
2. It crashes right away.
When it crashes, it won't close and the only way to get the computer going again is to reboot. Phooey! How do I get this to work or get my money back?

MC18 releases will be available in a month or so are available now.

Please download and install MC18.0 from a thread near the top of this board.  It will have a subject similar to "JRiver Media Center 18.0.xxx -- Available Here".

Purchase through the Help menu in MC18.  The price is $26.98.

If you have already purchased MC17, but would like to purchase an upgrade now, please see the instructions below.

Complete Upgrade Instructions are on our Wiki (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Upgrade_to_MC18)

Please post any questions in this thread.
YOU'LL BE GOOD TO GO WHEN MC18 ARRIVES
When you buy MC17 now, you will receive an MC18 license that will work with both MC17 or MC18. When MC18 arrives, you can just install it, let it upgrade your MC17 library and settings, and follow the development from beginning to end.  JRiver welcomes this kind of user input.  Check our forum for more.
this is email i received when i bought MC17! but now ou are asking 26dollars for upgrade ! the code was suposed to work with the both releases. How can i upload now for free ?

Here's what it says on the upgrade instructions:

Quote
If you purchase MC17 now, OR if you purchased MC17 after July 10, 2012, the license is an MC18 license that works with both MC17 and MC18. You can just download and install MC18 when it becomes available.

You purchased before MC18 licenses were available.  $26.98 is the correct price.

I have MC17 running now, what do i have to do to make the switch to MC18??
First uninstall MC17 then install MC18 or do i just install MC18 over MC17 without uninstalling MC17.
Can i use the library backups from MC17 to use my current library with all my albums for MC18 or do i have to add all my albums to MC18 like i would have to do with a fresh install??

Just to make sure I understand correctly:

I've completely lost track of my MC purchases, and I read that MC17 licenses can work with MC18 depending on when you purchased MC17.  I therefore tried my MC17 license with my MC18 install and it appeared to work -- the "trial period" box no longer pops up when I start MC18.  Does this mean that it worked as an MC18 license -- i.e. that my MC17 license is one of the ones that works with MC18 as well?  I noticed that the MC18 price is lower until Dec 31, 2012, so I want to make sure that we aren't in some sort of interim period where the MC17 license only works temporarily.

Thanks,

Larry

Okay -- it turns out it wasn't an MC18 license, so I went ahead and bought MC18 now, using my newer email address.

I'm still confused why my MC17 license is "stuck" on my old email address and didn't update with all my other licenses (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=76618.0.)  If possible, I'd like to get ALL of my licenses (including MC18) associated with my new address.

On the Restore Page, you can change your e-mail address.

The problem was that my MC17 license was "sticking" to my old address while all my other licenses shifted over to the new one.  It turned out that this was because I had apparently used the same address but a different password for my MC17 purchase.  I re-used the email change page with a different password, and now ALL my licenses (including MC17 and 18) are associated with my new address.

I'm not sure what will happen if I ever need to change my email again, but hopefully that won't happen.

Thanks,

Larry

Hi John, thanks for the purchases.

You already have a v18 license purchased on 07/27/2012.

Simply enter your email address on the restore page to retrieve all the licenses registered to that address:

I'll look into refunding your purchase from today unless you are using two licenses (please let me know).

I am upgrading to MC18 this week, in conjuction with upgrading my HTPC to Windows 8, which will require a clean install.

What is the best way to transfer my library. I'm not bothered about MC settings, just literally the library so I can avoid having to do a complete Import from scratch.

I guess;

Upgrade to MC18 first
Backup Library
Clean install Windows 8
Clean install MC18
Restore Library

?

When you install MC18, it will find your old library and make a copy of it in a new location.  It also transfers most of your setttings.  It's automatic.

It would be a good idea to make a backup from your old copy of MC before you start.

Thanks Jim. All done and a happy camper here.

Has anything been done in MC18 (over MC17) for the actual library files (.jmd) - as I would like to copy my customizations across rather than doing them again. Namely;

browser (theater view).jmd
browser.jmd
view tree (theater view).jmd

I have done it and all seems OK - just want confirmation something won't go awry later down the line.

It may work with MC17, but it is an MC18 license.  This should help:

This is a case of "nevermind"! If I had waited a few more minutes for my email to load I would've seen the MC18 liscense. By the way, the 17 will NOT  work. Do you have any idea why I keep getting the error message at startup about the sleep timer module? Been an MC user since 2001. Won't use anything else. Great product! You even sent me a T-shirt for being a beta tester years ago. Still wonderful with few problems!!

If you have MC18, why do you need to run MC17?

If MC17 won't run, try installing the latest build from the MC17 board.  Start a new thread on that board if you need help.

add preferred external subtitle selection

For example

a_movie.mp4
a_movie.chs.srt
a_movie.eng.srt
a_movie.cht.srt

Other media player like media player classic, kmplayer could allow user to configure for auto selecting subtitle in order like
cht, chs, eng
Title: Re: Upgrading to MC18 -- Questions and Comments - cue file
Post by: lendallp on January 27, 2013, 04:27:52 pm
Have been using Media Center 13.0.171 for a long time, and finally got around to downloading MC 18.  One issue I have is that I have ripped quite a few files in MC13 using the Advanced Ripping "rip to single file using cue" function.  Reason for this is that many classical pieces are divided into tracks in small chunks, and when these are "shuffled" to playback the effect is jarring, so it has been better to rip some pieces to single file.  Now I see that this function does not appear in MC18.  I have discovered that (for example) flac files that I "ripped to one file" using MC13 show up in Windows Explorer (as do the accompanying cue files), and play back fine in (e.g.) VLC Media Player, but MC18 does not recognize these files at all:  I can neither import them nor even see them when I go to "open media file."
Any thoughts on this?  I feel that if I go ahead and start using MC18 instead of MC13 I am going to "lose" a lot of my music files.  (Fortunately I backed up my libraries in MC13 before trying anything in MC18!).
Thanks.

I just upgraded to MC 18 from 17. Sonically, this is a huge improvement over an already great sounding product. I am impressed with whatever it is you did, Matt and Jim, to make such a large advancement. Thank-you.

This is my first post, so I hope it makes sense.

I used the free trial and decided to purchase and upgrade from MC13. Paid with PayPal, but  MC18 didn't immediatly register and activate when PayPal confirmed the payment, as I was told it would. I used the registration code they emailed to me to get an install key which came as an .mjr file attachment that I cannot download. I tried several times shutting off various security functions. All that did was reduce how many install keys I have left.

:(So now PayPal has my money and I've got a useless program that still keeps asking me to buy it.  Any suggestions out there?

The good news is that your purchase was successful.  If you're having trouble restoring your license, try using IE as your browser.

Thanks for your purchase.

Having a problem. The purchase page requires you enter the original password. That info is long gone from my consciousness. How do I get or re-set this password? Help! ?

I just got MC18 and a music server (running Windows Eight).  I have lots of DSD (dff) files and a Meitner MA-1.  I've read and tried everything to import a library but each time it seems to import only the non-SACD hi-rez files (that's all I have for now - two hard drives attached to the music server).  It seems to import all the files but the DSD ones don't appear in the libaray, except for the few DSD files on the C drive (e.g. Blue Coast Records).  I can play individual tracks by going into file on the upper left and selecting a media file to play and I am getting DSD.  I've tried clearing out the library, re-importing (obviously it is importing hi-rez non-DSD files on the same drives) but can't get them to show in the library.  I've also downloaded MC18 to the PC (I have Windows Seven) and while I can't play DSD but can do 176.4kHz from DSD files, I have the files showing in my library, cover art and all.  I have tried to change the music server to the same settings but still I can't see those albums.  Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

Please add the API changes necessary for remotes such as JRemote to do playlist editing and creation (e.g. send to new playlist, etc) This has been a highly requested feature and would appreciate if it was considered.

Editing won't be done soon, but the interface to create a playlist will be available in MC in the next week or so.

I just upgraded to 18 from 17 and there are 2 things I didn't like,

1. The cost, 29.95 to upgrade from one version is a bit much. I get an error message when I start mc18 after upgrading. Something about the wrong account and then media server and mc18 in the start up? I used the same email and account I've always used. I've also been using Media Center since Version 12.

2.  The inability to properly recognize my Nano Generation 7. It will let me play, edit (as in change the tag info) and delete the songs, but not sync or add new music. It's also not listed as a recognized device.  I know APPLE broke it, but I was unaware of your refusal to support any new versions of the IPOD until after I purchased the upgrade.  I HATE ITUNES, GARBAGE SOFTWARE.

Since I just upgraded last night, I haven't looked at all the changes. I hope it is worth the price.

It's $26.98.

The account is the Windows account.

If you have a previous version installed, make sure it is set not to run Media Server on Windows startup.

Help! I've wasted three (3) MC restores by accident this afternoon: March 28, 2013 I updated to the latest version of 18 on my  Windows 7 laptop per the "stable" email sent yesterday. JR MC18 opens then crashes as soon as I click on something. I uninstalled, rsinstalled,  and I can't even back the library up before MC18 crashes. The earlier version of MC18 worked just fine on my laptop. Is the someone who can help me? This update worked just fine on my Windows 8 machine this afternoon.
Thanks,
Paul

Hello,

I am French and for testing I downloaded the free version of JRiver but when I read my audio files and the CDs since my PC Windows XP the reading is jerky and trembling as a reading of a bad MP3. In addition to that the sound is accompanied with " tick trck tick ....." very unpleasant Especially with a listening in the headphones.

I think of a regulation to be polished up where a conflict between my software of reading (WMP, Itunes, VLC).

If you have an idea I am accepting because level quality of sound there is no photo in front of other software but those one have no problem for reading music?

Sorry for my English  :-\ .... but Thanks to Google  :P

Hi J.R.

I just upgraded from MC17 to MC18. Ones again a step up in sound quality. From MC16 to MC17 it was a huge step, from MC17 to MC18 its more in the details, but never the less significant.

More transparent and agile sound. Cleaner base, organic midrange and very detailed highs with absolutely no glare. Sweet!

I'm running Fidelizer 3,0 before starting MC18. My new transporter, Audiophillio2 with battery support, feeds my Orpheus One DAC. Speakers Aether Audio Revelation 3,0.  Very revealing system.

Thanks.  ;D

I keep trying to reset my code for my new computer but get a "code not valid" after requesting a new code. According to the wiki I can only add a new computer in the first two weeks of use so I assume this is the problem. Does this mean that I need to purchase the program all over again for the new computer?

Thanks,
Tony

Thanks again for producing great software at competitive prices, and providing a low-cost high-end audio playback solution.

I'm currently running MC17, and am contemplating the move to 18 for even higher quality, especially if it could include the following upgrades to Gizmo:

1.  On screen (not hard button) control of volume.  Would be great if a volume "preset" or two was available to quickly jump or fade to the appropriate volume, without 20+ clicks on the device button.

2. Better (more ergonomic and straightforward) editing/adding to playlists from Gizmo. Adding just a song, instead of an entire album to playing now would be a start.

3.  Love/Ban control of Last.fm would make all my dreams come true.

Any plans on implementing these improvements in MC18?

I purchased mediajukebox 8 over 10 years ago and have used it since; is there an upgrade price for MC-18 or do I need to buy this at the full price? I also have Windows Media Center with Windows 8 but have not reinstalled this since reinstalling my system. Can MC18 be installed without interfering with the Windows Media Center program?

Install the latest MC18.  Then restore your old MJ8 license code (starts with J, ends with 9).  Then purchase from inside the program and you will get the upgrade price.

Thanks for your business.

I tried this. With the license is restored in MJ8 the option to purchase no longer functions. The update command does not find a server. Is this possible blocked by Windows 8, or does the version of MJ8 have the wrong address?

Attempting to purchase from the trial version of MJ18 does not get to to the upgrade price.

There's no need to install MJ8.

Just install MC18.  Then restore your MJ8 code to become eligible for upgrade pricing.

I did have 18.0.206 installed, but was trying the upgrade from MJ8. When I tried the restore license from MC18 with the old license it linked me to the upgrade page. I then completed the purchase.

Thank you.

I have a version 17 and 18 on my machine and I am having all kinds of problems. Could that be a cause? Should I uninstall version 17?
