Title: Feature Requests
Post by: Sandy B Ridge on July 26, 2012, 02:59:54 pm
Any updates to TV EPG in the pipeline?

I'd like to see:

Clock

Timeline to indicate current time on the grid

Live update so that it doesn't show old data after you've finished watching a show (or worse last night's data when you switch on again the next day)

Channel logo images

some indication of shows selected for recording

maybe some indication of genre/maybe not

Cheers for the continued work on MC!

Since you're currently working on the DSP stack, i'm renewing my previous request :

- Ability to Activate/desactivate the "Volume Leveling" option, and set the mode for Replay Gain using the optionnal parameter.
Ex : 10xxx   MCC_VOLUME_LEVELING (0: off; 1: track based; 2: album based)

- Ability to Activate/desactivate the "Equalizer" option, and set the preset mode using the optionnal parameter.
Ex : 10xxx   MCC_EQUALIZER (0: off; 1: Rock; 2: Live, 3: Blues, 4: Country,5: Hip-Hop, 5: Classical...)
(The preset mode will be set according to the original order in the DSP Studio menu, including custom presets)
Or
Ex : 10xxx   MCC_EQUALIZER (0: off; OCKUYUNKCCC: Rock; OYQNIIIKMMN: Live, OMMNQUYUQKE: Blues, OMORUTOJGCB: Country...)
(The preset mode will be set according to the internal EQ code, including custom presets)

- Ability to individually control the "Equalizer" sliders, and set the value of each one using the optionnal parameter.
Ex : 10xxx   MCC_EQUALIZER_VALUES (0;x: Control the preamp slider; 1;x : Control the 60Hz slider, 2;x : Control the 170Hz slider...)
("x" being a value between n & 0 )

- Ability to globally Activate/desactivate the Effects section in DSP Studio :
Ex : 10xxx   MCC_DSP_EFFECTS (0: off; 1: on)

- Ability to Activate/desactivate the 3 effects options in DSP Studio individually, and set the preset mode and, if applicable, the level using the optionnal parameter.
Ex : 10xxx   MCC_DSP_ENVIRONNEMENT (0: off; 1;x: Concert Hall; 2;x: Arena, 3;x: Jazz Club, 4;x: Concert Hall,5;x: Living Room...)
("x" being the "level" value between 1 & 10 )

Ex : 10xxx   MCC_DSP_VSUBWOOFER (0: off; 1: 6" Subwoofer; 2: 8" Subwoofer, 3: 10" Subwoofer, 4: 12" Subwoofer,5: 15" Subwoofer)

Ex : 10xxx   MCC_DSP_SURROUND (0: off; 1: Subtle Enhancement; 2: Medium Enhancement, 3: Pronounced Enhancement, 4: Maximum)

- Ability to Activate/desactivate the "Headphones" options in DSP Studio, and set the preset mode using the optionnal parameter.
Ex : 10xxx   MCC_DSP_HEADPHONES (0: off; 1: Subtle; 2: Standard, 3: Standard Increased, 4: Pronounced,5: Pronounced Increased)

You've got the idea : basically, the best will be to be able to remotely control the whole DSP Studio stack using MCC & MCWS

As requested/discussed already here (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=72644.msg497659#msg497659), the ability to have Media Center auto select the output zone based on filetype and source audio channels would be excellent.

My Feature Request List

MC18.exe --- advance to next album

MC18.exe --- advance to next artist

MC18.exe -- is MC in playback mode (not stopped and not paused) ?  Scripts could check the return code.

MC18.exe --- single command to start playback (if stopped) or unpause if player was in pause mode... do nothing if player is already in play mode.

Fill Track Numbers From List Order --- if only track is selected, set it to track #1

View Presets --- should retain setting even if the associated playlist is empty.  (The "recently imported" needs to be set to the preset I want each time if the "recently imported" was emptied)

I agree with all of these.  There has been a huge improvement in the TV area recently but the whole setup process needs to be simplified.

We need some effective filters to remove many types of unwanted channels from the scanned list.

We need automated tagging of Radio channels.

We need direct tagging in the scanned list for categories of channels, like the interim Keywords solution but without having to go through the Smartlist route.

Nick.

1) When importing (unencrypted, obviously) TV recordings from Windows Media Center (WTV files recorded in Windows 7 WMC, for example), grab the show name, description, etc. meta data from the file for display within MC.

2) Add support for CableCard tuners (Ceton InfiniTV, SiliconDust HDHomeRun Prime, etc.).

Been using the MC for a few months now and very happy with it ...

But ... there's always a but, right?

A couple suggestions for tweaking the interface.

- Add a button for PLAY NEXT. I like to shuffle thru the files while a selection is playing and if something catches my eye, set it as the next to play. Kind of cumbersome as that's currently only available as a right click, especially using an air mouse or pad.
- Add a STOP AFTER button. Time to quit for a while, be nice to be able to click a button that would automatically stop playback at the completion of the current track playing.

I'd suggest moving the volume controls under the SEARCH button. That would leave room for four more playback controls grouped under the current ones.

- Be nice if all the windows would track each other. Call me a minimalist, but the pictured setup is how I usually roll. As you can see, I'm playing one track, the tag window is in another, and the files list in yet another. I'd think it'd be possible to set the window focus so it would track any clicks inside the file list box while you're actively working there, but default to displaying info for the track that's playing if you click outside the file window?

- The status bar on the bottom is redundant - for me anyway - be nice to be able to turn that off and gain some screen for stuff that matters. I'm using a 22" monitor (hence the big fonts) and every bit helps.

PS - can I turn off "automatic updates"? I've had a couple that have resulted in some weirdness, and I'm only using JRiver for music, so a lot of the updates aren't really needed.

AND - I haven't stumbled across a way to make the pictured setup my default screen when JRiver opens? Not sure if it can be done with VIEWS ...

Yes.

Tools/options/Startup  then look at the "Update Channels" setting.

I love MC17... Can't wait to see what's next.

1. Eye candy for theater view would be nice.

2. recently played / recently imported - have it divided separately by audio and video files

3.  FM radio support

4.  Streaming TV

5.  Ability to hide / unhide sidecar and associated jpg files and cleanup feature if files are moved/renamed etc. (outside of jriver)

6.  This one is way out there but e-book support (epub / mobi files)?

7.  Maybe I am doing something wrong, but search option for "global search"  rather than only within specified section (eg., if in audio section, should also show video files with the name).

8.  small thing, but for multi monitor users, ability to drag between monitors without having to first click on the "restore" button (i.e., like OFFICE pgms, you simply grab hold of the title bar and drag).  I am always dragging pgms between monitors and this extra click is annoying.

9.  OVERVIEW should also include information on any media being streamed to other devices such as IPAD or streaming to devices OUTSIDE the network via internet (using gizmo for example).  I am surprised that this has not already been included.

10.  Online tag info - option to use other databases as YADB is simply inferior relative to others.  I now use winamp to update tags.

That is all for now.  As mentioned, I love MC17.  It is probably the best pgm I owe and I show it to everyone who visits me (they love that I can control the music via IPAD around the pool and are jealous of it... when I tell them that it is a $50.00 pgm, they freak).

One other thing I forgot to mention in my previous post

TRANSCODING - I am able to transcode avi (divx) to mp4 using Air Video for ipad and air video server.  This worked seamlessly without any tweaking.  I have NEVER been able to get MC17 to transcode files.  Thus, on my IPAD I use MC17 for audio but Air Server for video.  It would be nice to be able to use 1 pgm for both, especially since MC17 is supposed to support transcoding.

Unified View Library

The ability to set up a library of views and then apply them ad-hoc to any of the different servers (DLNA, library, web). This means that you only have to set up, sometimes complicated, views once and then apply them to all servers without setting them up again, and also switch views in and out easily for a particular server without starting from scratch.

The ability to serve connected media via DLNA

In other words, being able to stream internet radio via DLNA, or even TV from a network TV tuner if you know the URL for it (example: Elagato Netstream Sat - its channel streams are exposed via a http URL, each channel's URL could be imported into the library and artwork attached to it which is the channel logo. Fantastic!)

Please - make the Search box (upper right) sizable - or wider than it currently is. In my opinion - devoting over 12 inches to the "display" area for song info at the top is a total waste when 9 or 10 inches wide will do just fine.

What appears to be an 1 1/2 inch wide search field is a bit embarrassing given today's large wide screen monitors etc.

Did you know that [Ctrl]+[Shift]+ does the trick allready? Or go to Player -> Stop after current file. You can also set a custom key for this function using resource.xml and MCC comand.

1) Add support for Sony 7000ES Bluray 400 Disc megachanger control or Sony 777ES DVD/SACD 400 Disc megachanger via RS-232 on USB hub or perhaps (RS-232) Thunderbolt hub.
    -  Currently, all of J river's competitors can control the changers via RS-232.
    -  Recommend using a standard brand of USB hub for RS-232 or Thunderbolt, so it won't require several drivers for other brands.

2) Add the feature, where the Zone can control an Audio Matrix switch with amp for multiple zones.  (4, 8, 16)  http://www.audioauthority.com
   -  (Multi-zone audio -  (Sound cards are still required.)  I have it working Control4 setup now, but Control4 has a limit of
48Khz for audio, which is based on their software.)

   - Some users may prefer audio/video HDMI switch.  For example, http://avocationsystems.com/  (Current J river zone method probably won't with Video via HDMI)
   - Thunderbolt/Displayport might be another option for OS X.  (Apple seems to going to Thunderbolt, so might be solution here in the future) I don't think you see HDMI on iPanel TV (Apple's new TV)

I have had the same experience.  Tools like PS3 Media Server, Air Server, and RemotePotato (for TV) have great configuration options and just work every time.  Trying to do this with MC has always ended in frustration for me.

You can do this in limited fashion already.  If you build the view in the main library first, you can then add a 'Library item from standard view' to add that to another area (like DLNA or Theater View).  I would be nice to have it more unified though, so you don't have to remember to re-add the view everywhere you need it after a change.

It would be nice if the Theater View were easier to theme.  I think a lot of creative people would love to show off their skills and come up with themes similar to what MediaBrowser offers.  Sad as it is, I think the extra eye-candy is what would bring people in.

Let me ask this question first.  Is the theme engine changing between 17 & 18?  If it's not (and I assume it's not, but that's an assumption on my part) I'd be more willing to dive into it to see if I could figure out how it works.  If it is changing, I wouldn't bother trying to figure out 17 if 18 was a new model.

When designing skins for Theater View it would be nice if we could drag out things
to frontpage from the underlying menu, and make PIP work again.

Would be nice to have acces to Performer Store from Theater View and Gizmo.
Title: Re: Feature Requests
Post by: imugli on July 27, 2012, 11:06:35 am
One of the things I raised when 17 was still in development was a "unified" experience.

For instance, if I have my Netflix subscription details entered, the "Movies" menu item in Theater View (or Video section in Std View) would include my locally stored movies AND my Netflix queue, Television would include my Hulu queue and if I have a subscription to Performer Store, the Audio section would show both my locally stored collection AND the Performer Store collection.

Content could be denoted by small logos, perhaps in the bottom right of the cover art, but ONLY if I had entered my credentials in tools > options > Services.

Furthermore, in taking the "global search" theme one more step - to have this include all online sources (Netflix, Hulu, Performer Store) as well would make MC an even more powerful proposition than it is already IMO. That seamless integration that people are now seeking between the physical, local collections and "the cloud"...

The overriding idea being that if I subscribe to Netflix and Hulu and Performer Store, their catalogs are instantly; seamlessly part of my collection. I don't have to select a menu item or a "widget" to watch them. They're just... there.

You never know, it could even increase traffic to Performer Store. Perhaps there are licensing restrictions preventing this from happening, I don't know.

Just my 2c worth.

I very much hope that the improvements to blu-ray disc and improvements to ISO handling discussed in the appropriate threads make it into MC18.

- In 2012/13, MC needs to be able to automatically import blu-ray, whether in folder or ISO format, in the same way as DVD, without manual user trickery and with auto import of metadata.
- Blu-rays should be marked as such in appropriate views, in the same way as DVDs are currently.
- MC should intercept open source developments in Blu-ray menuing so it can use non-Java menus, specifically Slysoft Speedmenu. XBMC should not have better bluray support than MC18.
- There should be semi-automatic configuring of an external player for Blu-ray, either for all Blu-ray or just for 3D, according to the user's wishes. If possible, MC should auto-discover if a disc is 3D, 2D or both and offer appropriate options. If auto-discovery is not possible then the user should be able to easily tag Blurays as 2D, 3D or 3D/2D.

- The player needs an "info" box (ideally when the info key available on most remotes is pressed) that in particular shows subtitle and audio language AND audio codec (eg. DTS HD-MA) so the user can quickly and easily see if the player has selected the right default subtitle/audio options.

Hi , first post here!

A few suggestions I've been thinking of:

DSP+Output & Output mode (ASIO, Directsound etc) profile per -selectable- Artist/Album/Track level and a Global disable/enable option. Could be saved either in the library or in the file folder.

At Room Correction, it'd be very useful to be able to increase the speaker distance in smaller steps (0,1 instead of 0,5) and I'd think that metric system would make more sense for that option. More importantly, again at Room Correction panel, please allow for a user defined value for the crossover under bass management. Some fine tuning is really important sometimes, eg I get much more fluid sound between my satellites and SW with the crossover set at 110Hz instead of the preset 100 or 120.

Also, it'd be nice to have an option, when MC is minimized to tray and next track on the playlist is played, to have a popup message (without focus for a few seconds) informing about the currently playing track.

Finally, I should mention that sometimes, while in artists View , the alphabet at the top is lost until you click at another tab and return back to the artists View. A bigger limit for opened Views should be adopted as well, at least 15-20 for power users with RAM and CPU to spare. And I agree with Vocalpoint's suggestion above, the search box should be wider.

I mainly use MC for playing music with theatre view on a 22" monitor from across the room with a remote control so the enhancements I would like are for remote control and theatre view only.

With over 2000 albums scrolling through the artist/album view is a chore so I would like a simpler selection process.  There used to be a way of doing this in previous versions but that seems to have been 'broken' by MC17.  One easy solution could be a check box in the theatre view options to enable an alphabet at the top of the screen.

Would it be possible to increase the thickness of the selection box as it can get washed out and difficult to see from a few metres away in bright daylight?

Playing now is the display I would normally have up when music is playing.  Would it be possible to have some more options here?  For instance, I never use ratings so I would like to be able to remove this field.  Also it is not clear how to enable track number in this display.  This would be useful for classical music where movements are often only titled with tempo markings.

The letters on the remote's numeric keypad will work.  You can get page up and down with the channel up and down buttons.

Adjusting the monitor might help.  Please start a new thread if you would like to discuss.

What would be great, is an app that displays the JRiver window on iPad. And that can send commands. All the Android and iOS remotes that I have seen are too simple, not very customizable, and don't display enough informations at one time. VNC is slow. RDP works better, but scrolling is a pain.

I would like to see a much better Search.

This staple feature is oddly weak compared to the rest of the application. It's either too basic or too complicated, but never just right.
- It needs a better unified UI implementation.
- Intuitive advanced search capabilities (What about the Find -> More in MS Word 2010 but adapted for audio & video media files)

Thanks

Keep up the good work!

3 things that I would like to see.

Better Windows 8 Support (I don't care about Metro UI).

2 or 3 UI options during Install..... One for the average user and one for the tech savvy user. Many of my friends only want to Play Music/Video, Sync to devices, Burn or copy, or re-encode to a different format. These options should be extremely easy to find and use. The re-encode feature is the hardest to find now. Also make is easier to Sync to devices so the Average user doesn't get confused.

And please have someone make a "Chinese Traditional" language pack. My Taiwanese friends are begging for it.

I never managed to see that so fast and easy like in foobar.
This I really miss ind JRiver MC.

Here's one I ask for with every new release I purchase.  Though I have a license for 16 (and now for 17/18) I'm still only using 15 (/sigh don't ask) so this may have already been done - but I've never read that it has.

I would like the ability to be able to "virtually combine" separate tracks into a single track.

Say I rip a CD and it has 10 tracks.  But tracks 3-5 are really a single song, but they broke it down into three tracks on the CD.  When I rip the CD I have three files.  I'd like to be able to keep the three files as-is, but tell MC to treat the tracks as a single track.  That way anytime I add one of the tracks to the playlist it automagically adds all three, and keeps them together even through different sort orders (random, etc).

I think this would be a great addition for those "few pesky CDs," and certainly for those of us who listen to classical music.  And, unlike Apple's solution, something like this would work for any file type.  I rip all my CDs to native WAV format...

I've been using MC since at least 2006, v11 - I still have my email confirmation and key codes.  I LOVE IT - There's NOTHING like it!

The letters on the remote's numeric keypad will work.  You can get page up and down with the channel up and down buttons.

Adjusting the monitor might help.  Please start a new thread if you would like to discuss.

OK thanks - my remote does not 'do' letters, will need to investigate further.  The alphabet option would still be useful though...

Tried all the settings on the monitor but not a lot of improvement.  Perhaps the luminance value of the selection box could be increased to full white?

Playing with the General Options to remove unwanted features has it's limits. Since you plan to develop an Audio only version for OS X, it will be nice to offer the same option to your legacy Windows users. The memory and HDD space footprint of the application will be reduce to the bare minimum for audio purpose only.

IMHO, a server/client scheme for multiroom audio will be the best option, the client software being a "simple" MC audio player running as a network service with no library management and providing all the DSP Studio related options via a web based interface. Let's call it an "MC renderer" :)

Be nice to be able to manually adjust the settings after analyzing tracks. The routine works well more times than not, but there are times a personal tweak is in order. I did find that if you open the ANALYZE window, you can then click in a setting which gives you a drop down list. I still can't edit the existing value, but I can zero it out. Better than nothing.

Maybe (like a couple of my other feature requests) I just haven't stumbled across the trick. I would have expected tags that save the values that could be edited in the tag window?

Better Windows 8 Support (I don't care about Metro UI).
* Agreed. But I think it's already on the road map, right? :)

* I'm still encountering issues with some SRT subtitles (Like when you rewind a video for a few seconds, then play, subtitles appear double. So, just an improvement/fix here.

* What about a feature to automatically find subtitles online that are synced to the video file playing. Like we can currently download album covers.

* Simple A-B Repeat option

* An auto-mix feature: BPM recognition & sync between tracks. Finally we get the best cross-fade (: I'm actually asking that for 3 or 4 versions

* a Sleep Timer to play your music, gradually fade it over a set period of time, and then turn off your PC — perfect for listening to tunes before you go to sleep. (MediaMonkey feature)

I'd suggest moving the volume controls under the SEARCH button. That would leave room for four more playback controls grouped under the current ones.
* It's a pretty good idea, and I'm extending its point. What about parametric button(s)? You can assign whatever you want to it. For instance, Clear Playing Now, then start a smart-playlist or play randomly 100 tracks. Start playing a playlist. Start the Theater, Video mode. Start the sleep timer (see above). etc.

Library - Add Title function

When selecting Tools|Import, there would be an additional option: Add Title, this would allow you to add a title manually without having to search a hard drive.  The file type would default to a new type: disc, but could be changed by the user.

This new feature would be used for adding to the library, discs that you own but are not ripped to the hard drive.  For example, if you have 200 bluray discs, you don't want to go out and purchase several TB's of external drives to rip them on to.

Note, it is possible to do something like this now by loading the disc and then using right click to import it.  But it would be a lot easier to not have to load each disc, but instead simply add it manually.

In the Tag comment field you would put in something like "Insert Disc", or "Disc 197", or "Disc currently on load to Fred", etc.  Then, when you select the title and PLAY, the software would recognize the file type as "disc" and instead of trying to PLAY the disc it would simply display the comment field.  The comment is then used to guide the user on what to do, e.g., where the disc is located, or a reference to a cataloging system.

The other advantage of using "disc" file type is the user can select file type when viewing titles and see all the discs owned.

So in summary:

1. Add new function under "IMPORT": Add Title
2. Allow new file type: disc - which implies external storage
3. On PLAY .. if file type is disc then display comment only

Now that I've paid for MC18 (glad to do it) here's some of what I'm hoping for...

+ Revisit how MC handles PHOTOS. MC is so close to being a superior photo library manager... so close.

Perhaps review all the past discussion about the various tag "standards", especially interaction with the Picasa and others that do face recognition but store data in sidecar files and/or use tags in unusual ways. One solution might be to provide a way to map such tags to MC's notion of standard tags (sort of done now for music files), extensible so that all the major image tag methods can be handled by MC.

+ Improve MC's support of PDFs. MC17 supports PDF files (as "Data") just enough to be frustrating. PDF files can be listed in an MC library, but they can't be viewed directly in MC (unlike image files), and they can't be tagged in the same way PDF tools do (essentially embedded XML).

My "media" includes an ever-growing collection of sheet music in PDF files (the most common format for this). Managing sheet music files may seem off-the-radar, but it seems to be a big and growing market. There are several sheet music PDF manager apps (some are quite expensive). They are gaining MC-like features, such as music file/play/record (so examples of a song can be listened to while viewing the sheet music), so they are alternatives to MC in this specific area. And they do PDF tagging, etc.

The PDFs are really containers for scanned images of sheet music pages. (Often they are saved in 2-bit color using a FAX CCITT compression to keep the files small.) The PDFs are often multi-page (multiple images, each on a PDF page). PDF-stored tags seem to be embedded XML.

If MC could round out its PDF handling, it could be a valuable sheet music manager for musicians, of which there are zillions.

Please offer a way to quickly unify views across Theaterview/DNLA/(Web)Gizmo.

I can see some differences between these might be desirable (Gadgets/external programs etc.) but for me the desired hierarchical views of photos/video/audio are the same and creating them 3 times feels wasted effort.

Any updates to TV EPG in the pipeline?

I'd like to see:

Clock

Timeline to indicate current time on the grid

Live update so that it doesn't show old data after you've finished watching a show (or worse last night's data when you switch on again the next day)

Channel logo images

some indication of shows selected for recording

maybe some indication of genre/maybe not

Cheers for the continued work on MC!

SBR

plus: At the moment MC allows you to select multiple channels for recording at the same time, even though I only have 1 tuner.  Seeing what is already selcted to record is important to me.

Also, showing the Date or Week/Day at the top of the grid so that when scrolling into the future I know what day I am looking at.

Looking forward to the full v18 release.

Features of MC 18 that i would love to see.

There is a great push for apps to be inside browsers and of course cloud based services.
A browser that is designed for 10 foot UI that has control over audio output.
I would make me one very happy camper.
http://kylo.tv/ is a good example of a browser for TV i've seen so far. But it could be better.  ;)

Shared views would just be really convenient.

In theater view I want to bring life to my library.

If i like an actor and musician or any artist themselves. I would like to see pictures of them and then look up other work they have done in my library.

So maybe when you click on a title. There could be a "Search by". This could be controlled by the view. So for movies i would add a few common tags i would search by. Like director, actors, composer, and genre. Music could be artist, Instruments, BPS, and genre
These elements should have images associated with them. So this doesn't become too stale with just text.

Added functions like this really adds to theater view. It really helps show how useful a system like JMC can be. And might not need major changes to have a beautiful visual experience.

Has a very simple request:

the ability to maintain in the same page  when switching between the Audio & Playing Now..

you see, I use to browse thro my collections via Audio (artist) page and then when I switch to Playing Now and then back Audio (artist) page, it will return to the beginning of the page, ie artiste with Letter A.
If I am at the artist Sxxxx, I would like to return back to the same artist instead of going up to Artist Ax...

Or maybe a previous "button" will help ...

I'd be interested in seeing how far you guys can take webgizmo/gizmo.
I'd take a look at GTVbox he is pushing pretty hard on what can be done with android. Even on older googleTV boxes.

As much as i love my windows box and happy to hear about Mac support. Smart TVs are still pushing really hard and fast.  Android has Plex and GTVbox and then there is apple TV. They are competing for a nice visual experience on a TV. I think JMC could be even better.

They even have been listening to me about what a good media remote should be.  :)
Even though i think the keyboard should just be an android touch screen keyboard.

Well, here are my requests:

1.- Native iDevices sync, if it's not possible because of apple, etc.  Update the "export to itunes" feature to allow an easy and semiautomatic sync.  Ability to convert lossless to lossy on the fly when exporting to itunes.  If it's possible do it a background automatic process.

2.- When connected to a library server, the ability to right clic in a song and "Import this song into -> x local library".  My purpose is when guests or family come to my house, and connects to library server, can import a song into their librarys without efford (itunes does it...)

3.- Advanced convertion dialog in cache options in addition to the low-med-high settings.  (be able to automatically cache a lame -v2 file for example)

If any of this is implemented in MC18 I will surely upgrade  :)

Request:
Ability to configure output channels based on source channels as well as source type.

For example in my bedroomI have 4 speakers; 2 speakers on my desk by the monitor as well as 2 speakers by the head of the bed.
- If source is an audio file file and is 2 channels I would like to output the 2 channels to the rear speaker pair as well as the front speaker pair.
- If the source is an audio file that is 4 channels (quad) I would like each channel to go to its speaker with no redirection up/downmixing
- If the source is an audio file that is 5.1 channels I would like it downmixed to 4 channel output.
- If the source is a 5.1 video file I would like it downmixed to stereo, and then output the stereo to the rear speakers as well as to the front speakers (for watching while in bed since the rear speakers are now directly to the left and right of my ears).

MPC-HC allows mapping channel output based on the input channels (options > Internal Filters/Audio Switcher > Custom Channel Mapping).  So here one can configure for 2 channel source to send channel 1 to both front left and rear left and channel 2 to front right and rear right.  Similarly, mapping can be specified for 4 channel sources and 5.1 channel sources etc...  But this doesn't allow for setting based on source type (nor does it use jrmss!)

Conceptually I am thinking of something like hierarchical dropdowns:

Dropdown 1 would be where one selects the source type (audio, video).
- Dropdown 2 would be where one selects the number of channels in the source, for the selected source type above.
-- One then configures the desired output for the specified source type and source channels:
-- > output same as source (e.g., stereo goes to front speaker pair only)
-- > stereo plus; stereo to both front and rear pairs of speakers (if source is more than 2 channels, dowmix to stereo first)
-- > X channel output (where X is the speaker config), source should be upmixed or downmixed to output X channels as needed

Let me know if there are any questions.  Thanks for reading/considering this!!

Unless I am missing something (very possible) moving a currently playing playlist from player to player does not seem to be possible. It seems you currently would need to re-queue the items and start playback as near to where you were as possible.

In an age of Smart TV and multiple audio devices around the home it should be possible either to forward what you are playing to another location and then move there or go to that location and, from there, transfer what is playing to your new location. In both cases, playback should resume from where you were at.

As far as I know, the closest thing to this is to "Link Zones", which will copy and sync the playlist from one zone to another, but will continues playing on both zones. So the pieces are there for this. I give this idea a big +1.

More audiophool tools, whether you agree to them or not.

Implement various upsampling filter types like Signalyst or XXXHighend. People like to tweak, especially us audiophools.

Here are all the options from Signalyst:
Quote
Software upsamplig / downsampling with selectable algorithm up to 32-bit 1.536 MHz or down to 16-bit 44.1 kHz (13 options, most "apodizing")
Delta-Sigma modulator for upsampling PCM/DSD content up to 24.576 MHz 1-bit SDM (4 oversampling options)
Selectable dithering / noise shaping algorithm (7 options)
Selectable convolution algorithm (FIR) for equalization, such as digital room correction (2 options)
Software-based digital volume control for PCM and SDM
Playback of DSF/DSDIFF files through any supported audio interface (PCM conversion)
Selectable algoritm and noise filters for DSF/DSDIFF playback (7 / 6 options)

I hope when Jim H mentions "video on Gizmo", it is refering to improved transcoding and streaming options to Gizmo (so I can actually watch a TV show when not on LAN [my provider has slow upload speeds]), as well as a nicer android player (e.g. current player doesn't pause when the phone rings).

I would also like to see better ineraction with meta data services such as LastFM.  These help provide lists of "similar" artists, moods, etc that help others explore the music available.  There are probably others that have API's also.  We have playdoctor, but that is all at the moment (who knows maybe it does use LastFM??).

The ability to build and save slideshows for specific artists or tracks, or at least a means to block photos or websites that don't fit the selection. I like Genesis, and if I never see another Hyundai again while listening to the group, I'll be a happy camper ...

What would be perfect would be a review function you can fire after listening to an album that allows you to pick and save the photos you like. If it's a rights issue, go ahead and clear the image cache, but save the urls as "favorites" ... the slideshow function can still introduce new photos to the mix, but still allow you to edit the list until eventually you get enough variety to lock it. If you really want to go crazy, allow a timer function similar to what Powerpoint uses so you can create your own synchronized show.

I have been after an ability to control DSP control from keyboard short cuts or be able to provide a simple way to create a macro to operate them. In my case, I have been after a way to assign a key press to the tempo DSP in order to turn it on and off, and increase and reduce tempo simply. So far, I have been unable to find a way to do this.

In fact, all commands should be able to be accessed through a macro that can then be assigned to a single key press or combination, which could also aid remote control support. I have looked through the current Remote Control options, but nothing seems to fit.

I would like to be able to time the visualization available in the display mode so that they do not rotate so quickly.  A lot of effort appears to have gone into the creation of these visualizations but one becomes kind of boring after a while but they blow through so quickly when set to shuffle that it can make one dizzy.

It would also be nice to be able to que the visualizations, picking some to rotate but not neccessarily all of them.  Again alot of effort to create these but we have almost no control over them.

Thanks so much for the consideration.

I would like to see support for the Windows 8 metro UI, if even it just started out as launching theater view by default when launched from the Metro start screen (and still default to the normal view when launched from the desktop). Obviously a nice UI utilizing the Metro API combined with the power of MC's database underneath would be pretty awesome! But that is something that I'm sure would take many many hours :)

Also, just as a developer tangent, have you thought of moving to using WPF for rendering MC (which happens to be what Metro uses)? I've played around with it some and it definitely has a "smoothness" to rendering UI that is not present in WinForms/Win32.

We need to fix importing foreign language posters from TMDb. Other front-ends do not seem to have this problem.

Regardless of whether it is possible to fix this (it should be), when manually importing metadata it should be possible to display ALL posters from any metadata source for the user to choose. Currently only one poster per source is displayed and for TMDb that is frequently a non-English poster.

I'd like to see improvement in the handling of playing files from memory. I keep my files on a NAS and it's common to see buffer messages between songs and sometimes during songs for those in high resolution. I'd like to see MC load the whole audio file into memory prior to playing and cue the next song into memory so that playback can be seemless.

I'd also like to disable the auto read that MC does when a disc is inserted into the drive. I use another ripper, so if MC is open playing something else, MC and the ripper program fight to read the disc and it slows things down.

Ability to run MC18 in Win 8 Metro:
-live tile showing some sort of summary view such as Now Playing
-full screen mode similar to current Theatre View
-how to handle current non Theatre View will take some thought. Maybe it is a separate tile launched from the Full Screen playback tile

Version for Windows 8RT tablets

Ability to create a Smart list to find low resolution cover art as Windows 8 will likely lead to cover art being displayed in much larger sizes

Playback from cloud storage
-playback media directly from SkyDrive, DropBox, Google Drive etc. to MC18
-a Gizmo client that could playback from cloud storage or a home based NAS

Something I suggested from another thread: i want my list such that the tv shows list is a certain style, and the seasons list (when i choose a tv show) is in a different style. im always in the Seasons tab. I like having my tv shows in a regular list style, and when viewing the seasons of a tv show, in a cover flow style.

Title: Re: Feature Requests

Hi I have a request.

Whilst on version 16, I was trying to make a view using [Artist], [Remixer] and [Supporting Artist] fields. I was using list combine to try and merge them so I could make a pane that would show all tracks, remixes and tracks a particular artist has featured on regardless it it was their album/ep or not.

The problem I ran into was that there was no way to exclude artists that don't have any albums from appearing in the pane, as MC is not a relational database and every separate track is blind from each another.

See my old post http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=66365 (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=66365)

Today I have thought of a really simple solution to this.

Would it be possible for you to add the ability to make a pane derived from the artists field (or any other field for that matter) but when an entry on the pane is selected make it behave just like the search box?

Because if I search for an artist that has remixes etc in the search box all of their material appears. I believe this is a simple elegant solution that would not affect the performance of mc compared to my prior request for some relational abilities.

It could work something like this I suppose

[Album Artist]&datatype=[LIST]&mode=[search]

Perhaps it may have more applications for different types of music, I'm not too sure of that though. It would defintetly make it a better experience for people with lots of electronic music

I do like the search feature but I find most of the time I use the panes as I like to visually see which artists that are in my library oher than thinking off the top of my head then searching for them

hope its not too far fetched

thanks

edit found a slight flaw
I assume if we had this feature the following code would only actually search the Album Artist field
[Album Artist]&datatype=[LIST]&mode=[search]

It would maybe have to be somewhere along the lines of
[Album Artist]&datatype=[LIST]&mode=[search]&searchfields=[Album Artist],[Artist],[Remixer],[Supporting Artist]

So in essence the pane would populate its list from [Album Artist] but when a selection is made in the pane mc would actually search for that name in Album Artist, Artist, Remixer and Supporting Artist fields

  • Internet Radio

Are you saying you want Internet Radio accessible from Theater View? There are ways to do this now, if you're interested.

Best way I've found is to create Playlists from the internet radio stations, then you can create a menu in Theater View to access just those playlists.

I've done this for Sky FM and Digitally Imported in the past and it works well.

I'd like to be able to easily choose one or more output devices for each zone -- the way that Itunes does it. For example, while playing a zone, simply select any number of audio rendering devices, from a quickly accessible control. This is how Itunes allows you to push audio to any number of Airport Express or similar devices.

I know that the effect of this can be achieved with MC by using multiple zones and linking them together, but I find this to be a very awkward process. It's works more as a permanent setup, especially as the link timing does not appear to be persistent.

1. Over-the-Air EPG
2. Simpler/faster TV channels editing and favourite channel list accessing
3. Automatic Zone selection based on file type and/or display used
4. Blu-Ray menu support

+1 for "Blu-Ray menu support", and "folder or ISO format, in the same way as DVD, without manual user trickery and with auto import of metadata..."

It's time that JRiver 18 includes these features.

Agree with this.  I frequently need to go to TMDb separately and manually download the poster I want.  In many cases, my preferred choice is not the 'favorite' one.

DLNA Server - skip single choices

Option on each category to determine whether to skip automatically to next level if it only returns one choice.

DLNA Server - custom artwork on each category

On each category-level, the ability to choose artwork according to the value of the category.  For example, on a Genre level, use the value of the genre item to look for artwork relating to that value, e.g. Classical, and send it as the image for that folder, either from the web or a local directory.  On an Artist level, use the value of artist to look for a generic artist image, either on the web or from a local directory.  On a user-defined Category level (maybe, CDs, vinyl 7", vinyl 12") use the value of that category to send an associated image.  Options for this setting could be something like:

DLNA Server - turn on/off the All Items entry

For any category, the ability to show or hide the All Items entry at the top of the list, also to allow specifying what text to be shown if it is not hidden. For example, "All Artists" on an artist level could be renamed according to preference as "No Artist filter" or "All Albums", which sometimes makes more sense and is more logical that "All Artists". [EDIT - oopos, it looks like this one has alredy been implemented, apologies! It slipped me by.]

I would like to have the ability to launch version 18 without itself automatically closing v16 or v17. This has been changed since v17 where it closes v16 if the latter is already running. Of course, one can always restart 16 again after launching 17 but it's such an annoyance (if someone can point me to the thread that explains why this option has been suppressed, I'd be grateful.). This has not been the case between 16 and earlier versions.

How about a new executable icon too, to distinguish different versions between them.

Here are some features, the lack of which has led me to use another music player instead of J River:

Tracks you've been listening to while not connected to the internet should be remembered and scrobbled to last.fm when you are back online.
The possibility to assign a custom start time and end time to a track in the library
Accuraterip support
And finally, because of prebuffering it is not possible to use the seek function towards the end of a playing track (depending on how many seconds the prebuffer is set to.)

Also, the inability to close the Action Window and the fact that tagging takes place in the side-bar and not in a pop-up window really annoyed me at first, but I gradually got used to it, I guess.

Another Library Request:
When changing libraries, can the default import path change with the library?  My libraries are mostly based on the location of the files (a couple network drives, 1 Cloud drive, and a couple local drives).  When I change libraries and want to import files, the path is always the last path imported from the last libray I was in.  Would be nice if, not only each library had a default path, but also each file type in that libray should have it's own default path (or at least remember the last path used in that library for that file type.

1. Playlists don't have any info in the top display (where you can edit) to show total duration/number of tracks. Would be very useful when tagging is going on covering up the info window at the bottom.

2. Submitting tag changes immediately, and then closing MC means you can't re-open MC until all tags are done writing. Serious PITA if you close MC by accident and forgot you are tagging 100K files.

Another feature I'd like to see working with MC18 is support for Microsoft Communications API which has the ability to reduce the volume of other sounds/mute/pause (i.e. MC18) when the Microsoft Lync client is active on a voice call. This works quite nicely with WMP on Windows 7 and it appears to be part of a standard API. The user setting for this appears on a "Communications" tab in the Sound Control Panel, at least when Lync is installed.

I'd like to see improvement/automation in how cover art is handled when there is multiple images for a particular album.

Today, the way to do this is to include the image file types in the audio libraries and then also tag the image file with the same album/artist tag of the audio files.  This is a cumbersome process and also means I then have to hide files from the library view if i don't want them showing up in the track list.

I'd like to have a setting that allows me to automatically include all image files in an album folder in views where art is scrolled/rotated, including as background in theater view when listening to that album.  So, all i need to do is copy image files to the folder and MC does the rest of the work for me without it having to show up in library views of audio.

thanks

DLNA Server - option to use folder.jpg (or some other specificed filename) for the artwork for a container instead of the default fanned selection of artwork in that container

For example, a CD box set might have a different cover from the individual albums contained in the boxed set. Similarly, for movies such as Alien Quadrilogy.  This might work in conjunction with my previous request on page 3 to be able to define custom artwork for each category, where the "default" MC-generated icon would either be composite image, a blank folder icon, or folder.jpg - or it could be considered as part of the "local image directory" option.  The only issue here is that unless the category lists items by physical folder (as opposed by some metadata), I guess it will be difficult to work out where the physical folder.jpg is. I guess the easiest answer is to look in the directory of the first media item in the list, i.e. for a boxed set that has each volume in a subfolder, therefore the first track is BoxedSet/Volume1/Track1.mp3 then look for BoxedSet/Volume1/folder.jpg.

Note also that all my requests are for DLNA Server as that is what I use MC for, but in theory they should be applied to all views for consistency, i.e. library view, theater view, web services/Gizmo etc., which also further supports my request for a unified view library!

Hi I've just upgraded to MC18.

Here's some feature requests:
- improved lyrics support. I'd like to have scrolling lyrics just as what minilyrics does
- possibility to show automatically and browse album art and booklet (PDF, jpg, etc.) when an album is played in display view and theater view
- HDCD decoding
- conversion from dff to dsf and from DSD to DST compressed files
- Possibility to customize display in Theater view now playing (es. reamining time, bit depth, etc.) as in standard view plus alternatives for volume and progress bars (I don't like that moving point!)
- Improved online metadata support. IMHO YADB doesn't work well so I Think it'd be very useful to have alternative sources (freedb, discogs, etc.). I'd like also to have to serch cover art just as what album art downloader does.
- Play files from memory options: it'd be nice to have the option "decompress and send to memory before playing"

+1 for the "only audio" version

Thanks!

Bye

Spotify Integration.

Spotify integration is just one step away through Spotify for Jamcast:https://www.sdstechnologies.com/Forum/yaf_postst772_Spotify-plugin-with-JRiver.aspx (https://www.sdstechnologies.com/Forum/yaf_postst772_Spotify-plugin-with-JRiver.aspx)
All it requires is a second way for JRiver to Interact with a DLNA server where the server exposes its folders and the client just shows them without importing things in its specific structure. Or maybe the way WMP does it where the Spotify playlists appear under...playlists.
Thanks

How about an option to hide the "Tag", "Action" and "Display" pop-ups at the bottom left?

It would be nice to clean up the Standard View by hiding these.

Thanks for considering!

MC already does this, but only for the currently playing track. (it's in the top toolbar menu "Player" - "Stop after currently playing track")

I'd like to be able to chose a track further down the playlist and set MC to stop after that selected track,

The waveform seekbar view. Great to chase a special moment in a piece of music, and to have an overall view, mono, stereo, multichannel, etc... This feature would be great !

My illustration sucks, but done right it would blend nicely with the skin and look great. It would also be very useful and make better use of otherwise unused space. (I'd like to see a significant chunk of that space given to the search bar, but that's another issue.) Maybe some embellishment like a magnify on hover would appeal to the audiophiles...

Please Please can you consider adding the option to run the server as a service. I know it's been asked for many times over the years and that there are tweaks to frigg if but now that you have rewritten the code using your own system surly this would be quite simple and a logical evolution-al step.

I run MC on my WHS and I have to remember to log into it in order for the server to start. Running as a Windaes service would make far more sense.

Thanks,

John

A couple of GUI requests:

1. A top/bottom dock auto-hide-able bar with fully customizable playing info on its display. (visually similar to Paradigm: Essence, or Winamp's bar)
2. Finally, a customizable tray notifier (track changes, full playing info with mouse-over etc). Currently, the mouse-over info is cut if a certain text length is reached - seems it relies mostly on Windows.

You can minimize the "Action Window" by clicking the button to the right of it's Title Bar.  You can also hide the whole left pane by clicking the arrows in the border.

Thanks for chiming in Chico.

Yes, I know I can minimize them with the minimize button.  And Yes I can hide the whole column.  The problem is, I like the column being visible.  I dislike the album art popping up in the corner.  I already have album art showing in every view.  When it pops up here it is just redundant.

I guess it is an integral part of the interface.  But it is not necessary.  Everything there can be done elsewhere.

I was just wondering if anyone else would like to be able to disable these little windows if they wanted.

Thanks again!

That's actually a display window set to use cover art as the 'visualization'. That's an important distinction because the display can only be in one place (in any form) at a time. Playing Now includes the display in a split (appearing above the playlist). So if you have PN open in another tab, it won't appear anywhere else. You might find it convenient to have PN available in another tab anyway. If not, it will do no harm and provide the result you want. If you don't want to see the display there either, just close the split. It will still 'be there' and not show up elsewhere.

Ability to run MC18 in Win 8 Metro:
-live tile showing some sort of summary view such as Now Playing
-full screen mode similar to current Theatre View
    <snip>
Version for Windows 8RT tablets

    <snip>

Playback from cloud storage
-playback media directly from SkyDrive, DropBox, Google Drive etc. to MC18
    <snip>
I'm playing with Win8 now, and I agree that a "Metro" tile and Theatre View theme would be awesome.

I don't think either is too difficult (on the Intel platform at least), and would really tie MC in to the new OS nicely - which I think will be a selling point to new users (maybe not so much some people on here though ;) )

As far as Win8 RT goes... perhaps just a Theater View interface if it's all too hard? (again, aiming at consistent UI with Win8) I'm not sure how much re-coding would be required, or is it just a compilation with a few tweaks?

I guess how I play music if different from others.  I always play in an artist/album list view with Big Cover art.  So I actually have the album art in the focused view in the top pane, and in the "playlist" at the bottom pane.  Then it pops up in the Bottom Left for three album arts in the same view.  I was just hoping to rid myself of the redundancy.  I dont use "Playing Now" unless in Theater View.

Hi, here is my wish list for new features:

1) Graphical User interface to input all the convolver related parameters, instead of a config file --> impulse file for each sample rate, channel delay, etc.
2) Line input to be selected through a button having, as an option, the possibility to mix the line input while reproducing a music file.
3) A simple clipping indicator to show whether the combination of music file with filters selected by the user, including convolver, drive MC output to clipping.
4) A basic convolver impulse based DRC: convolver impulses generated against a user designed target based on properly averaged and smoothed pink noise.
This method requires to add averaging to the FFT analyzer as well as a target curve that can be modified by the end user: the difference curve (target - averaged pink noise),
smoothed properly can be used to generate the convolver pulses.
Although much less sophisticated than dedicated solutions (Acourate, Audiolense, etc.), this approach can provide surprisingly accurate frequency response (amplitude only, no phase),
it can be implemented to be relatively easy to use and requires only a microphone (a linear one like i.e. ECM8000 or similar) and the audio card.

BTW: like many others I have already purchased the upgrade to MC18 and am anxiously waiting to be able to download and try the new version of this already exceptionally good program.

Many thanks.

Based on what I've counted, it looks like I'm the +4 on this one. I absolutely love this idea. I too did a mock up a while back but I have to admit that Rick's makes better use of space allowing for larger waveforms. My mock up (below) was just using a "summed mono" representation ala Soundcloud.

I would like Gizmo to be a little more configurable -
Most especially I would like to be able to assign different streaming bitrates based on external/internal IPs.  i.e. all internal IPs get high bitrate, all external get a low bitrate.  If this was configurable down to the device, that would be a bonus.

If the Android Gizmo had some of the JRiver DSP/eq ability, that would be great too.

Also, +1 for making the Media Server a Windows Service.

Besides convolution support for filter bank switching for different sample rates it would be great:

-> convolution support for filter bank for different filters (for example "audio" , "Video") AND VOLUMEADJUST between this filters.
(volumeadjust is necessary to compare different filters with exact the same  volume level).

-> Important to set *.cfg files on the banks (my system is 4 way active with digital XO, so a cfg-file is needed to load)

True Multi-Zone:

Hi,

Would be great if Theater View could be used on all GPUs/monitors independently in a multi-zone setup.
(And selecting and displaying images by family members is the one reason I can't not use Theater View.)

Similarly it would be good if the use of Theater View on one monitor didn't stop a movie playing on another monitor.

Otherwise MC17 is amazing compared to any other AV software I've used when it comes to multi-zone.

Being able to have the Playback Method set by Zone and FileType would be 'icing on the cake' (since different hardware sometimes needs different (non-MC) software to Play to it.

I'll +1 anything that will perfect the sound quality of the playback - in my case over an Ethernet interface. Not saying JRiver isn't good already, but between the various incarnations of Slimdevices/Logitech, versions of PS Audio's eLyric Music Manager, and now JRiver it's clear sound quality can vary across versions of a given server product.

MusicBee has some features in the tagging section which currently surpass JRiver:
The main point is the Auto-tag by album feature which lets you search for album information online and then apply this to a set of tracks on your hard drive. Another cool feature is the digital fingerprint which tags songs without any metadata present.

I am using MC since version 12. It's a great tool to manage media and MC improved a lot over the time.
MC is the only software I use on windows and which holds me back to switch complete over to Mac.
- I would be really happy for an shortcut (search) from a single title to all titles which match the same and/or (better) similar name. This is already provided for albums, artists and genres.
This would be a really helpful feature for everybody who maintains many ten(hundred) thousands of songs.
- Also it would be great if the rating/category system would be exported properly to the windows file system. Currently you can't use any ratings done in Lightroom, Filebrowser, iTunes, NikonView etc....This prevents me using MC for pictures, because you loose information you edited.
- Last but not least an export with all data to iTunes on Mac would save a lot of time and would avoid inconvenience....

I am exited what will come

One feature I'd love to see is offline Last.fm scrobbling. I've been searching around and the only thing that has turned up was an older post and it said it wasn't possible at that time. If things have changed for this to be doable now, I'd love to see it implemented. I am not always connected to the internet so caching the song plays for later submission would be stellar.

Further to this request for improved blu-ray support and as discussed elsewhere, MC should be able to open isos on import to determine movie duration, codecs, etc. Once movie duration is known then "last played" should be set according to the same rules as other movies. At the moment last played seems to be set the moment playback starts in the case of .iso.

How about an option to hide the "Tag", "Action" and "Display" pop-ups at the bottom left?

It would be nice to clean up the Standard View by hiding these.  http://imageshack.us/f/3/84748417.jpg/

MOG integration.

Why MOG? Because it has the best sound quality of... 320kb mp3. 18 million + tracks of all kinds of music. One can play any tracks/albums at any time for $5 per month. There's a free version.

For those who aren't aware, there is a desktop player for Windows and Mac. Check it out. BTW, I have no affiliation, I'd just like to seem them succeed, they're that good, and way better then streaming "radio" apps.

Just purchased a license for 18 so here goes:

Continue and improve integration with LastFM

Improve the 'look' - it looks old/dated. Make it look cool!

Better skins/themes

I can't use JRiver for playing TV and movies yet, so improve that - a lot - auto display fan art, auto import all the metadata and movie/tv show info - like the other free products do ...

Smooth Transition to Windows8

On the "convert format" add option to produce a single file !!

Meaning you have a gapless flac album but divided in tracks. Have the option to convert to mp3 but output a single file.
Would be a great and usefull option when converting gapless lossless albums to mp3 to be played on the car oem radio.
That way we would not get that "$#" gap between tracks on non gapless capable hardware.

Thank you

Convert DVDs to MKV but keep the DVD menus, so we can choose the audio track, the subs and watch the extras as if we were using the DVD, but with MKV files that uses a whole lot less space and maintain the same quality.

I'd love to see the option to be able to enforce a certain action when double-clicking any file, without exception. As it is, setting the default action for double-clicking on files to something like "add to playlist (play now)", only really works with audio files. This causes so much grief when I'm having people over and someone wish to see a video clip, music videos etc. as MC will clear the playlist. Yes, I know it keeps backups of recent "playing now" lists, but it' still a pain.

I apologize if these have already been asked for.  They're all in reference to Theaterview.

Change the default TV show view so under a series there are seasons (unless only one season is available).  A way to easily configure this would be a alternative.

Centralize and make the setup parameters for Theaterview much more logical.

Make a wizard available to make the setup of Theaterview easier.

Configurable skip fwd/backward with 2 levels, IE so I can skip fwd 30 back 15 and 5 fwd 5 back using a remote.

The ability to get movie/TV info from MULTIPLE sources from one import, plus control over what image to pull if multiple are available.  Right now I have to individually run get info at least twice for each movie since Rotten Tomatoes has the 'critic score', and TMDB has better/multiple genre info.  Then after that I still have to manually search TMDB for the correct thumbnail to use since the 'default' is frequently either a foreign poster or not the one I would want.

1. Option to Save Background Images in Artist/Movie Folder.

Because my HTPC is not always connected to the internet. And it would be possible to add my own Background Images.
+Options:-Using Internet for Background Images or not.
-Existing Images in Folders should be deleted or not when grabbing them from the net or only added.
-Choose how many Images should be saved
               -Quality?

2. Editable Play Count Tag

Many of us listen to songs for a long time. But after a few Years some Songs aren't that good anymore as they were at the beginning. But they are still good songs and perhaps after a while you can hear them again.
I think each of us know this 'Problem'.
So it would be good if we could lower the play count and not only set them to 0.

3. Better integration of Internet Radio

   -Creating Playlists
-Better Display of Tag Informations (Standard and Theater View)
-Simply said 'A nicer Look' for Both Standard and Theater View.

4. Full BluRay Support (Menu,etc,...)

5. 3D Support

-A 3D Theater View Skin would be nice (Frame-Packing,SBS,OU)
-Supporting all 3D Modes: SBS,OU,Frame Packing
   -3D BluRay Support
-2Dto3D Feature would be nice. Like other players can do already now.

6. Backgound Images should be searched in Original Filename Tag in first place for Movies.

I'm from Austria and i get wrong Background Images for some Movies because of the different Filenames in other Countries. So I think I'm not the only one with this problem and this should solve it.
If the Original Filename Tag is empty MC should search for Background Images like before.

7. A Sleep Timer option when exiting through Theater View

This option is missing a long time ago.I often use the sleep timer Plugin for MC,but I have to activate the mouse function on my remote, each time want to use it.Can't be that difficult to integrate it in Theater View as a Feature in MC.Many Hardware Players and TV's support it.Why not MC?

8. And of course putting the Audiophile Level as high as MC Team can go. ;D

That would be my Wish List for Christmas. ;D

Several Theater Mode Netflix Suggestions:

1. For users not in the US the ability to remove the "Instant Queue" item from the menu. Very sadly most of us don't have one.

2. Add the ability to view sub genres similar to the Netflix website. For example selecting "Comedies" would being you to the next page with comedies sorted by sub genres like romantic comedies, stand-up comedy, family friendly comedies etc. This would be more similar to how the Apple TV and the WD TV Live handle Netflix.

Those of us outside of the US can not queue up movies to watch at a later date which makes the browsing aspect more important. While we can use the search we need to first know the movie is available. Its a pain searching for movies on a laptop, finding the title, then searching for the title on the HTPC and finally playing it. I am on the fence on ditching the HTPC for Netflix use and picking up a hardware device that supports it. All that being said MC17's Netflix support has been the best I have tried on the HTPC and SOOO close to being functionally perfect. These final couple things would make it as good as the officially supported hardware devices.

 -  What about to add info about each of used VST plugin when tweaking in DSP manager? It would be useful to be sure which supports 64bit and which works in 16/32bit only...

 -  It would be nice to have an option to add Artists'/Bands' images and then to have a special kind of view profile where only those images are displayed instead of album covers of those artists so you can scroll down and choose which artist/band are you going to play now to get to album selection :-) ... And even better, it would be nice to even see the artist's/band's image as well when listing all OR every single album made by them... OR EVEN BETTER, those artists images could be loaded in a slideshow from the internet as it works in Theater mode, that would be lovely!!!

two thoughts...

- played with a mac air the other day.  was impressed (I know I am not too modern) with the multiple finger swipes and gestures possible with the touchpad.  As these pads become more common I presume we will see more multi-touch remotes and having MC (theatreview) respond to gestures would be good (e.g. three finger swipe to the left goes back to Movies, five finger scrunch goes to main menu, etc).

- having MC main display running on TV with the main MC interface running on a tablet would be good.  I recently downloaded the android app screenslider which extends a windows desktop to an android tablet/phone.  I imagine a customized version of this type of program where MC runs and stays on the PC but the menu for theatreview is sent to the tablet/phone for offline browsing etc while Playing Now continues.

Excuse my ignorance since I use the program/suite almost exclusively for audio playback using WASAPI Event Style and ASIO. This may be beyond intended scope of the program (hope not) but it could lend itself to ability to record .flv streams. Same for PC recording and/or media serving of firewire video streams: for example, programs streamed from a dvhs?

One very important Feature Request i have forgotten:

-The ability to configure importing Online Meta Tags more precise

Options:

On Fresh Import:
-Complete Online Tagging (All fields)
-No Online Tagging
-Online Tagging (Only empty Fields) - Like it is now.
-And perhaps an option to clear Tags that are not in the Online Database.

Files already in Library:
-Complete Online Tagging (All fields)
-Online Tagging (Only empty Fields)
-And perhaps an option to clear Tags that are not in the Online Database.
+ Selectable Tag Fields that should be tagged or not!!!!! - Very IMPORTANT!

And separate settings for Audio and Video would be nice.

Now that I've done much custom Tagging in my Library,it would be awful when they would disappear.
Because i think the Online Meta Tagging feature is not complete yet.So there will come a time, that i will have to
update my tags again (When new Tags arrive). But my "selfmade" Tags should not get lost. So this Feature is a MUST. For many other MC Users, too.

+Better Music Online Tagging would be nice.Yadb only is not enough.Take a look at MusicBee Freeware Tool.
  Very good Tagging options.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Selectable (activate/deactivate) sidecar (XML) files for different Filetypes that cannot store Tags themself.

(ISO,SACD ISO,WAV,.... or perhaps selectable for all Filetypes that MC supports).

Another idea and one that's probably easy to implement: At "set rules" panels, it'd be really great if every rule had a tick box at the start of each rule already defined. This way, you can set/unset rules without having to define them all over again. It would be particularly useful (at least for me) for Play Doctor to switch between "genre" rules without having to redefine them each time.

features i think would improve usability

- better handling of iso (bluray or dvd rips) files
there's a convoluted way of making this work (manually), the ideal scenario would be mc doing the work for us. this refers to both metadata and playback

- use folder name for get movie and tv info
mostly for movies, this would highly improve accuracy

- reuse cover arts and backdrops
if available, reuse art files that reside in the media folders

- improve webgizmo
currently i had to resort to a third party ios app, because webgizmo isnt fully featured ... it might be an oversight on my part, but havent found a way to play movies on the server, rather than having them streamed, and there are no "remote control" functions

How hard would it be to have a version of webgizmo look like theater view  (theaterGizmo) and be a remote control for another location?
It would be a great way to use a tablet or phone to control theater view.

PS i know this is not an easy request given how many people still want new feature for theater view. Let a long make it work on android/iphone.
But it would still be sweat! I just don't want my only option to be a windows tablet. And i just wouldn't feel right not asking. 8)

What I would really like to see in a future MC version is calibration help for video. Each time I reinstall or update drivers it seems to change and I need to redo this. Although I have a bunch of videos and a printed manual, it would just be that much easier if MC had it built in.

A set of pictures to help set brightness, white- and blacklevels, contrast and colors. Each picture should be preceded with some text to explain what to do with general tips on which controls on the TV to use and what to look for. Optionally it could offer to use the video controls from the videodrivers to adjust and calibrate colors (some TV's won't allow to adjust individual color levels).

In line with this, I think it would be nice when I play a video, and adjust brightness/contrast levels for that particular video, it would remember this and apply it when I play it again (this is someone in line with the DPS settings for audio that Matt suggested in another thread).

In time(maybe tricky or even impossible I don't know) I think it would be awesome if MC could calibrate audio channels as well (levels, distance/delay). I have a mic with my Denon 4306 but I'm not sure if that would work on a mic input on the pc?

I'd like to see improvement/automation in how cover art is handled when there is multiple images for a particular album.

Today, the way to do this is to include the image file types in the audio libraries and then also tag the image file with the same album/artist tag of the audio files.  This is a cumbersome process and also means I then have to hide files from the library view if i don't want them showing up in the track list.

I'd like to have a setting that allows me to automatically include all image files in an album folder in views where art is scrolled/rotated, including as background in theater view when listening to that album.  So, all i need to do is copy image files to the folder and MC does the rest of the work for me without it having to show up in library views of audio.

thanks

big +1 from me.
I've been waiting many versions for an EASY way to be able to see back cover or other images when I want to while a track is playing. Just a right click on the image and see a ist of other images in the album folder, and then pick one?
Something as simple as that would add a significant extra functionality.
I see that there are other similar requests in this thread too. The one quoted above was just the first one I had found.

It would be nice to have native Ambiophonics support in the DSP engine (particularly multi-channel)

I currently run the Ambiophonic DSP VST plugin, which is 2 channel only & it has transformed my stereo listening experience.

Cheers for the continued work on MC!

I would really like this.  Some indication stating what show(s) are being recorded would be great.  I don't care if its the red record dot, changing the show background color or a fancy icon of some type.  But something would be great.

Theater View tagging:

Most Tags don't need a complete new Tag,if you have many Files in your Library.Genre for Example.

Adding a Drop Down Menü for Tagging with existing Tags in Theater View would be nice!
So we don't need to "write" every Tag with remote,if the Tag already exists.
Same Drop Down Field as in Normal View.

PLEASE find a way for our favorite media player ... JRiver Media Player ... to work with Milk Drop or Project M.

I am tired of changing to Winamp or iTunes to use this OUTSTANDING VISUALIZER.

I bought the Project M Android app for a couple of bucks and this visualizer works with ANY media player app....you can even configure it to react to your voice.  I can output the video of my Samsung Galaxy III S in 1080p via HDMI to a video projector ... AWESOME visualizations ?

I'm really happy with MC, especially the powerful tools to manipulate library without loosing tags. I used it as a media center and use gizmo on a tablet as remote to control it. The media center is connected to the TV but i usually keep the tv off.
SO Gizmo is my main interface on day to day use. It would be great to have some improvement for Gizmo like:
- with a better search function i.e accessible from any window like if you are in "GENRE" you can search an artist and then keep drilling down.
- album art don't have refresh every time you loose the connection.
- Ability to choose skin on Gizmo. / customized GENRE / ARTIST / ... icon.
- ability in gizmo when you are choosing a videos to view the descriptions to help choosing.
- in playing now, ability to drag song to change order. and to remove 1 song from playing now.

Thanks for this great software.

I have only one small feature request. When I select files from Windows Explorer and drag them onto Media Center 18, a playlist is created. I would like to be able to have the option to have that playlist automatically ordered alphabetically. That way I can number videos in the order I want them played and then just drag them onto Media Center 18.

(The other way to solve this problem would be to use a smart playlist. I have tried this, but the smart playlist updates too slowly to be of use. I would need to be able to rename the files in Windows Explorer to the order I want and have those changes immediately detected by Media Center 18.)

A simple request: Please add the "Open URL" feature to WebGizmo so that when I'm remotely controlling Media Centre I can play web radio easily. Adding a URL to a playlist doesn't always work. For instance, with UK BBC radio streams that doesn't work because of some clever stuff they do with adjusting the bitrate based on IP address (i.e. location).
Thanks!

Hi all, been a user since Jukebox 7. Here are some requests (some may already be implemented, been out of touch for quite a while, and have not installed 18 yet). Also, have admittedly not read all of this now 7 page(!) thread. Tell me if I am unclear or if anything is already part of the program:

1) Gizmo should play local files - make it into a real player that can play from the Android phone's own card. Seems you could OWN this market and bring in a ton of new customers! I would pay extra for this.

2) Gizmo should have more rights - Gizmo should be allowed to delete, tag, and add files to play/smart lists. I want to be away from my computer and use Gizmo on my Droid as a way to edit my music collection. At least be able to put the crappy song into a "probably delete later" playlist!

3) Built in MP3Gain - Has this changed? I am still (last few years) scanning new MP3s with MP3Gain first, then importing and analyzing within MC (Analyze Audio). And is it possible to do internal, MP3GAIN-like volume changes to non-MP3 files as well?

4) Auto import of custom art when upgrading - When upgrading, I still have to manually copy over some customizations such as my own replacement image that gets used instead of MC's default image (sorry, I forgot what this is called. It is located at: C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 17\Data\Custom Art.)  This should be automatic.

5) Import "INCLUDE this folder but NOT child folders" - There should be an option to "INCLUDE this folder but NOT child folders". It would make setting up importing easier. Tools -> Import -> Configure auto import -> Folders -> Edit

6) Updating version info - When MC finds an update, it should tell you what version it has found (and possibly what version you already have as well), not simply "an update is ready to install".

7) Multiple images per file - Do we have multiple images per music file yet? I want multiple album art AND multiple artist images per single song to slideshow WITHIN a Track Info plug-in.

8] "Fingerprint" ID of media files - Anything you can do to develop or improve fingerprint identification (metadata) of media files, including finding files that seem to be mislabeled.

And thanks for listening to us.  This, more than anything, is what I believe makes MC the greatest software project out there, and honestly what keeps me a paying customer.

Long live JRiver!

Hulu - can we get more information about the shows?

I had 5 episodes of Covert Affairs in my queue and there was no information about Season or Episode number in the descriptions.  I had to launch the hulu desktop app to see what order to watch the episodes in.  Therefore this would be a nice add (and probably an easy one).

Thanks,

Yes this would be nice,

I am also missing a good way to show/use a PDF booklet, if I have an album playing, and I then open

For theater view:

I would really like to view the available titles without using the right-click mouse menu.  I use a remote, and when I flip through the titles I have to go VERY slowly or media center freezes.  Having an option to view all of the titles via remote, along with their times, would be great.

Also, I would find it very handy to display the framerate as well as any input data available, like formats and bitrates.  In particular the framerate though, as sometimes I don't know what framerate the video is and don't know if the refresh rate should be changing or not.

I would even settle for just the option of having this info.  If the theater view playback OSD could be customized with options, I think I might cry with joy.

I like that the left and right keys can turn the volume up and down, but when a video first starts the volume bar pops up and if you try to change the volume it seeks through the video instead.  Even though the bar is showing, you have to go up or down to view other information, like the time for example, before going back to volume in order to change it.  Not sure if that's a bug or was intended, but I'm finding it annoying.

Just wanted to say again that these all apply to theater view.

It's still an amazing piece of software and I can't believe it's not more popular than it is.  The playback quality is fantastic!  Much better than xbmc/wmc/boxee/plex/mediaportal in my opinion.

Now that we have 16-channels of pEQ, are there plans to update JRSS to allow for 9.x or 11.x surround mixing?  I have an Echo AudioFire12 and would love be able to mix the High channels of 9.x.  I have a 5.1 now and will be upgrading my front sound stage in the next 6 months and would like to use the old front bookshelf speakers as high speakers (room isn't wide enough for the wide channel).  So this would really be a 7.1 system but instead of rear surrounds, I would have high fronts.

I think this type of customization would take the home theater processing of JR to the next level as receivers that process 9.x or 11.x are big money.

Thanks,

For DSP

Ability to use a tag to activate specific DSP. This will be VERY usefull to tweek some songs.

EX: I have 4 DSP preset.

1 - OFF
2 - My curve 1
3 - My curve 2
4 - My curve 3

In tag (ex: DSP_CURVE  (value) 3)
When JRiver see the tag "DSP_CURVE" they enable the preset 3.

This will allowing to have a specific EQ/DSP per song !

One thing that would be good is updating the file type descriptions for supported files.  I use Media Center for all my music formats and video, but I purposely don't associate the player with them because it makes them all the same icon and with the same file type - Media Center file.  This is annoying when you have FLAC, MP3, and different video formats that all look like the same file type.  Can't this be changed?

Some more simple requests with big payoff in terms of usability:

1) When importing, "Don't show this message again" - When importing, some of the confirmation prompts can be unnecessary (once you get used to them). It would be nice if you had a 'check here to' "Don't show this message again" on some of them (like you do on the "delete empty folder prompt"). For example, when using "Rename, Move & Copy Files" I don't need to see the "Confirm Library Changes" prompt anymore. Of course it should be complemented with a place in Options to redisplay the prompts.

2) Custom "Clean File Properties" - Under "Clean File Properties", add a user customizable category that allows things like UFO or III (roman numerals) to be capitalized correctly. I have seen other programs do this and it is nice.

3) Cut, Copy and Paste - When right clicking the search bar at the top of the program, make the Cut, Copy and Paste options NOT be under an "Edit" sub-menu, but have them right there instead!

4) Combine "Clean File Properties" with "Rename, Move & Copy Files" Option - Add an option to combine "Clean File Properties" with "Rename, Move & Copy Files" so you only have to click once and they both happen sequentially and with the option for no prompting.

Suggestions for 'Get TV/Movie Data':

For the supported sites, have a place to map what fields from the site go to what specific field in MC.   That would allow the use of similar data from multiple sites, or even data from the site that MC doesn't current use.

Allow the 'get data' function to pull from multiple sites at once, and add to the above mapping the ability to control which sites are used for which fields.  Currently I find that no one site has the 'best' data.

Allow a cover art selection tool like you have with CD cover art.  The 'default' artwork is often not the one that I would prefer when the site has multiple selections.

I'd still like to see separate default file paths for each file type in each library.
It would be nice to have a .jmd file entry in each library for the default file path for each file type (Video, Audio, Image, etc.).
Example:  I have a separate library for my files on my cloud called "Cloud" (go figure).  When I go to import videos from that source, the file default path is the last used (let's say, Audio from my Main Library).  I have to change the file path to import the video from my cloud.  I have a separate folder all together for my audio, image and such.  When I change back to my main library and want to import the lastest CD, then I have to go and change the file path from the cloud Video back to Main Audio.  I have well over 50K MP3s and do not want that folder to be checked when all I want is to import video, so again it would be nice to have default paths to each so if I want to import both audio and video, I just click on both option buttons in the import menu and both file locations in that library are imported.  Otherwise only the path to the particular type is searched (just video for example) in that library.

It doesn't seem like a major thing to do, except if the .jmd DB is locked to a certain number of fields for this build.

Here is a major, yet simple, annoyance:

Right Click for "Clear Playing Now" - When viewing, say, "Audio" in the main 'tree' on the left, I want to be able to right click on "Playing Now" and select "Clear Playing Now" WITHOUT LEAVING AUDIO.  I used to be able to do that in the past, but now when I right click Playing Now while trying to remain in Audio, it just gives me a choice of "Add Zone" and "Delete Zone".  I then have to actually go select Playing Now first before I can right click on "Player" and select Clear Playing Now.

I lose my place in Audio and it disrupts my work flow. Is there a work around for this? If not, please at least give me an option to do it in the new version.

Note: I am still using latest v.17.xx, so this may be different.

Thanks yet again for your consideration!

+ ability to use a server/client setup. Actually iso on the server (remote library) cannot be used by a client MC

Currently, during playback in full screen with JRiver 18 (I'm using version 18.0.74 as of Nov. 15th), whenever I use the arrow-down function, the currently played title display is not available anymore (?). I don't understand why this feature has been removed.

Furthermore, I would like by default for TV series to have their title display in Theater View and Display View their given file name (as in Windows Explorer) instead of a stripped down version of it that only shows the series title (without the series name and season). Currently, I have no clue as to which series/season/episode I'm watching while keying the arrow down key in Display View or navigating the list view in Theater View. This has been the default option up until JRiver16 but changed since JRiver17. It is also the default manner of displaying titles during playback for many players I know of (MPC, Zoom Player...).

I believe similar requests has been expressed in other postings but wanted to add mine to this common thread:
JRiver 18 board: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=74627.0
And accessorily in JRiver17 board: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=74253.0

I would love to see JRiver remote being able to execute at least the four basic media keyboard functions (Play/Pause, Stop, Back, Forward) even if it does not have focus. My keyboard (Logitech) can do this but somehow I can't find a way to make these operations work the same with the remote. I don't know if this is a special programmatic design for which JRiver would not be able to implement because these functions are only available for a keyboard but I think this would be a real plus for us who have multi-monitors systems.

Three little things that would make me soooo happy:

1.) Smarter seeking in Theater View. I want it exactly like in Media Portal. When you klick seek forward the OSD shows:

1 tap - 10 sec
2 taps - 30 sec
3 taps - 1 min
4 taps - 5 min
5 taps - 10 min
6 taps - 30 min
7 taps - 1 hour

And so on. It doesn't execute the actual seek until you stop tapping for about 2 seconds. This makes it so much easier to find a specifik point in a movie.  Now in MC you have to hold down the seek and pray.

2.) A simple dialog box for half watched movies. Continue from the last time or start from the beginning. As simple as that.

3.) Better remote response. Now it's like 500ms lag from when you push a button until it actually happens.

Fix these three little things and i'll be yours forever! Loving the image quality i'm getting with LAV and MadVR <3

#1.  You can use the right and left arrows to seek.  Right goes forward 30 seconds, Left goes back 10 seconds.  You can also change these intervals.

#3.  That lag is not normal.  Something else is probably getting in the way.  You could start a thread to get help.  In MC's Theater View settings, disable Windows MC.  Use the keyboard arrows to test to see if it's a remote problem or a more general problem.

#1. I think that Najland wants more presets options to do multiple jump/seek instead of the couple proposed. At least, it's what I understand by her/his request.

#3. For me, the lag is mainly with operations initiated by the use of up/down/right/left arrows during playback. Until the OSD of these operations is executed and done displaying, another command such as Play/Pause will be ignored, unless it is initiated by using the (media) keyboard. The latter is able to take over immediately while JRiver's commands cannot (this observation/wish is similar to my above-mentioned request, 'Reply #332').

Can it also get added to Theatreview (I guess it I can add it as a webpage, but something a little more minimilist would be nice??)?

CONVOLVER: automatic sample rate file selection

I wish to see implemented a simple feature in the convolver: only for 2 channels stereo MC automatically uses the
convolver file that matches the music sample rate.

The way convolver is implemented today it allows to choose the path to the convolver file and MC uses its internal resampler if
there is a mismatch between music sample rate and convolver file. My proposal is storing in the same directory/path
all the convolver files for each sample rate (i.e. 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, etc.) and MC (which is capable to read which sample rate was used)
chooses the best match. With only one convolver file MC should behave as it does now.

This is to avoid the configuration file that might be difficult to edit/understand and probably not really
needed for simple stereo.

Thanks!  :)

Minor addition to request for last.fm button above...

in the play doctor options, can we have an additional option in playdoctor optinos that only gets songs from last.fm.  it seems to me that the user input is identical between pd and lastfm, we just need the option.  This then puts last.fm front and center if we choose and saves going up to the menu (which I typically never have to, must mean the interface is good??).

The vertical splitter bar between the main view window (on the right) and the Action Window and Tree (on the left) is movable, but it keeps snapping back to its old place when some action takes place.  The tag window is too narrow for my taste.

I would just like the splitter to stay where I put it -- stop resetting.

Screen saver with "album/title" of the current song played.

Better support for remote controls... [the learning built in does not work for me, I had to use FLIRC device, I cannot use Windows Media Center as I use this remote for another computer in the room...]

I'm a relatively new user. I didn't buy after my trial period initially for a couple different reasons, but one sticking point was all the .xml and .jpg files that MC 18 litters my hard disks with. I don't mind the files themselves, but I don't want to see them in my file browser (Total Commander). I'd love to see an option to have the Library files stored with the Hidden attribute. I can then set my file browser to not display hidden files.

One more thing. I use Custom settings in Video so I can use LAV and madVR, but since these options are added on top of Red October and Red October HQ, I'd like to see some documentation on those profiles.

Otherwise, I'm finding this to be a great program.

A request to add Mouse Buttons (all five of them) and Wheel Up and Wheel Down to the "KEY" parameter in the custom resource.xml file support for MCC commands.

Some other people have asked for the capability this would provide, and the workaround mentioned several times was a great third-party program.   Unfortunately, the program - being a free single-programmer program - was abandoned over three years ago, and has to be modified individually for each new mouse released.  So, the program is now largely obsolete (none of my mice are supported).

Both Setpoint and Intellipoint have removed their support for Application-Specific button settings, and Setpoint only allows Middle to be set to keystrokes.   (This is part of a world-wide trend to remove features from programs as fast as possible - I'm not kidding.   For example, both Gmail and Opera's webmail have entirely removed features that I use regularly.)

Is there any way a single song file can be associated with multiple albums?  I have so many dupicates because I don't want to have incomplete albums.  Steppenwolf's Magic Carpet Ride is on at least 10 albums (inculing movie soundtracks).

+1  Something I suggested many versions ago.  The ability to create "virtual" albums that appear in all playlists and smartlists as unique albums.  Of course we can do this by creating playlists, but it would be awkward to actually use that way.

You have to be careful with that one.
Often, the same song performed by the same artist, is not the same file.  The same recording can be remastered, and the new remaster can be better - or worse.
And, other times, it is a new performance of the song (for nostalgia) or else a live version.
It's now under US$50 per Terabyte again, so the time spent checking that duplication is going to cost you more - at minimum wage - than just the disk space cost of keeping the duplicates.
So " - 1 ".  ;D

The creation of virtual albums would totally be up to the user to create and manage.  It could never be done automatically by MC.  We might want to create a personal "best of" album by an artist.  Again, that can be done with playlists, but the virtual album makes it appear like a real album in all lists.

Remote relay from gizmo... please. That is the only thing I currently need my remote to do when listening to music or using the computer as a source. Volume up and down via the android phone volume buttons and stored ir-commands from the relay function with the media center remote (wich is a waste of money for me at least unless this feature is included). This would make the WAF of any system a LOT higher in most cases.

MC Team Please add "Fill empty Tags" to "Get Movie & TV Info" without changing the rest of the tags.

Now that so much has been changed...(New tags,etc,...) it would be good if we could fill up these tags without touching the rest of them.

One MC User has created a tool, that catches IMDB Rating from the Homepage and adds it to xml file.
The only thing this tool needs,is the IMDB ID from the xml file.

But i have plenty of movies without IMDB ID,because it has been added not long ago.
I can't start from the beginning, because i've done too much custom tagging.

The only thing i could do,clear complete Library and Re-Import.So existing Tags won't get touched.Am i right?

But that is not the way it should be.And i think it isn't too much work to add this option.
Many of us would like this option,i think!!!

Please add a "reason code" when Import fails to import a file.

At some point in the import code, the file violated some test.  The reason code would tell the user which test.

Wiki would then have list of Reason Codes, such as:

048 - Audio Files referenced in CUE file are not found

(from that period when EAC wrote CUE files referencing .WAV files, even though it was also compressing them to .APE or .FLAC, and then deleting the .WAV files.)

Looks like a slideshow function would need to be implemented on the controller (MC when you are pushing) end. Added to the wish list...

I recently starting trialing MC18 and  I found this older request while trying to solve the same problem.  Using MC as a DMC to drive the TV (DMR mode)for slide shows is something that I can't seem to find (or make work)  from the PC.  In DMR mode the TV will not auto advance. I know that technically this is a DLNA issue, but if MC can solve the push slideshow problem it would be great.

I'd much rather push a well-formed slideshow from MCs nice and configurable interface than have to navigate through the TV dlna menus to reach it, and then be limited by the TVs much more basic slideshow options.

Please consider the DMC slideshow push feature.

The current playing now screen is a little blank/dull, all I get is a list and a play doctor input box.

Why not tile part of the screen with some recent playdoctor choices or better still let MC suggest some playdoctor lists based on the collection (i.e. take most popular songs and group into similar artists)?  This idea comes from Google Music which intersperses album tiles with "playlists" of similar artists.  It is cute idea to quickly click a tile and get a "channel" or theme of music.

On the Plasma IR/Screen Burn prevention feature  topic:

It would be nice (In DLNA modes, either DMC push, or DMR/DMP pull) to be able to scale/zoom and adjust image location in a slideshow.

Still working on a clean way to stream picture slideshow via DMC to DMR (prior request).  Pulling from slideshow playlist from the MC using the TV (my 65 inch panasonic plasma) works, and image scaling works in that they can be sized to 1080p TV.  However, I can't find a way to zoom, stretch and or move the position of the image within the 1080p 16x9 window.  Since I have a large number of photos which are not 16x9 aspect ration, this will mean that for a very large portion of time, I have black sidebars.

The slideshow often runs in the background when music is playing, and that can be up for hours at a time.

The TV gives me the various options in video mode, but doesn't honor aspect change requests while in DLNA slideshow, as far as I can tell.

If there was an option to zoom some pictures, stretch some, or move the position of the sub 16x9 image within the 16x9 window, I could at least make sure those sidebar areas (and top bottom areas for ultra-wide shots) get some excited pixel time. I guess effectively its like have some Theater View controls in DLNA mode. IF there is already way to accomplish this over DLNA, I haven't figured it out.

Finding the song that is currently playing in a large list is difficult after you been browsing you library.
1.) add a marker in the scroll bar

2.)advanced Theatre View skinning ability/ tools /flexibility... Please tap the communities creative resource!!  (you could make them submit their skins for approval)

3.) I'd like to be able to set up a custom list of shortcuts
eg: delete song from library, skip song without holding function, ect...

4.) The new Dynamic compression for late night movies: (It's not strong enough) and difficult to turn on/off (buried deep in the audio settings)
     eg: Right click=> Night mode.

5.) audio syc is also hard and timely locate. After starting a movie with out of syc audio,  a temp quick fix is desirable...
eg: Right click => adjust audio/video syc

keep up the great work

I'll Add my tupenth here too as this is something I think would benefit all beyond my particular niche idea.

I would love to see some ability to assign key presses to ALL of the MC 18 user controls, or macros that enhance the controllability of MC. Specifically, I would like to see an ability to control elements of the DSP via single/combination (i.e. Shift + Key) button presses, or a macro environment that had access to these controls which in turn could be assigned to a key press.

In particular, I would love to see the ability to be able to control the Tempo of a track quickly and easily without have to open up the DSP, navigate the the Tempo controls, and adjust the slider. VLC offer this particular feature by pressing the up/down arrow (which is already used in MC for other duties). This is incredibly useful fo anyone using MC for eBook or CBT type material, or anyone who uses MC as a centre for audio playback for a dance class or similar. The single button press could then be mapped to a remote control button meaning that tempo could be adjusted on the fly.

I did ask the question previously here (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=77633.0) and even further back on other versions of MC, but as there is no real work around for this, I submit it again as a feature request.

Many thanks

Since there were at least a half dozen people who enthusiastically agreed with this request, and it is in a long thread with other issues, I'll put it here where it is more easily found:

* Add Play Entire Album to right-click context menu within MC18.

This would be valuable in at least two situations:

- When you are browsing the Artist View, select an Artist and the File List gives you all the albums of the artist.  Even though the albums are beautifully separated, complete with picture, there is nowhere to play the album - you have to manually select all the tracks

- When you do a Shuffle play, it picks a track that causes you to say "Wow, I've forgotten about that - I'd like to hear that whole album"

Thanks !

The following would enable me to do Tags and Fields correctly according to their real definition, instead of doing a workaround:

* Change Album Artist field and Album Artist (auto) to a List data type (instead of a String), to match the Artist field (which is already a List).

The purpose of this is for albums that are collaborations.  Example:

Carlos Santana and John McLaughlin - Love Devotion Surrender

By having a List field, then this can be found when perusing the albums of:

Carlos Santana
John McLaughlin
Carlos Santana and John McLaughlin

otherwise you have to choose just one.

Currently, when Artist is a List of more than one string, Album Artist (Auto) just chooses the first one, so in Views that are sorted and displayed by Album Artist (Auto) - such as the default Artists view - the album never appears at all in the second artist's list of albums.

By making Album Artist and Album Artist (Auto) to a List data type, it would solve that problem.

In fact, it might be sufficient to just make Album Artist (Auto) to a List data type (if there was some reason to leave Album Artist as a string).

This will be useful for those with active speakers.

I'd like to be able to set the number of open channels on the audio card, independently from the channels set.

I have a three way stereo setup through convolver, but I would like to use JRSS v2.0 to downmix 5.1 and 7.1 content to stereo. The problem is that I have to use 5.1 to open up 6 channels on the audio card, so that I end up losing the channels that get overwritten.

If I can set the number of open channels to "6" and set the Channels to 2, I can downmix the 5.1 and 7.1 content to send stereo to the convolver engine.

For example, if I disable convolver, I will have a 6 channel output, but with only 2 channels with content.

Please let me know if that is possible. Thank you.

I use jriver in a car environment with theater view.
I have it setup in a carpc.

I know there is the feature where when the program starts up again, you can make it play the current playlist.
My question is if there is a possibility to resume the previous condition. If there is a song playing when jriver is exited, the next time it is started up, it will start playing the song where it left off.

If there were no songs playing, it will not play anything.

That way, turning off the computer and restarting will result in the same conditions.

Please let me know if that would be possible to implement.

Thank you.

The ability to have a pause inserted during playback when a sample rate change takes place.  This would prevent the next song from starting into the track on some dac's.

Already posted but thought I would add it here.

+1
Been requesting this for years also.
