Title: How may one set Rating using keyboard?
Post by: chrisjj on January 18, 2013, 05:56:48 pm
How may one set the number of stars in the Rating for the current track(s) using the keyboard?

Thanks.

You can set it with a keyboard while in theater view, playing now.

Thanks but (sorry to be unclear) I meant: in the standard view.

Thanks, but those keys e.g. SHIFT+CTRL+1 have no effect on rating here.

I see that page is headed Media Centre. I'm using Media Jukebox 14.

I had checked that the hotkeys are defined for MJ14, and work.

Ctrl-Shift-0 through Ctrl-Shift-5 work on the current track in Playing Now.

Is there some software you have installed that are already mapped to these keys?  Also see:

Ah, that's the secret. Yes, they do here operate on the current (shown bold) track in Playing Now - even when Playing Now is not showing because I am viewing the Audio node. Thanks.

So now, the improved version of my question is:

How may one set the number of stars in the Rating for the currently selected track(s) using the keyboard? E.g. these tracks:

I could play each one so I can set it individually using CTRL+SIFT+n, but I'm hoping there's a faster way.

Thanks.

i havent used media jukebox for a long time, but i guess this might work.

add in that view an expression (rightclick on the headers). place this in the expression [rating,0] .

now the first step needs mouse. click on the first file on the new column.
press F2
use 1,2,3,4 or 5
arrow down
etc.

would that do it for you.

Thanks, that would do it - if it were possible by keyboard.

It is possible.

Select your files, using the keyboard of course with arrow and shift-arrow or ctrl-arrow as necessary.

Press F2.

Tab or Shift-Tab your way to the expression cell gappie suggested you create.

Enter your rating from 0 to 5 and press Enter.

All selected tracks are now rated.

Thanks MrC - that works here. And I find the column selection is then (though hidden) retained, so next time the input needed is just F2, <n>.

Right.  Column selection retention is one of those magical beauties.

Also very useful when you do multiple selection - the column last clicked is the target for an F2.
