Title: Multi-Zone Capability with Dante, Automated startup
Post by: anneguthrie on December 19, 2013, 09:52:22 am
Hello! I am an AV designer and I need to play four playlists simultaneously to zones using Dante (audio over IP) virtual soundcard. This uses the Core Audio drivers on a Mac Mini. I have tried to route multiple zones using the trial of the MC19 but it keeps telling me this is not possible. Is there a way to do this?

Also, if and when I get this set up, is there a way to automatically start playing these playlists when the application opens?

Thank you!

In Options / Audio / Audio Device, do you see four devices in the drop list?

Currently I only see 1 device.

If you want to play four playlists simultaneously to four different places, you'll need four devices.  Is there a way to configure the audio driver to expose a certain number of devices to the Mac OS?

Actually, if what you're looking for is to route multiple zones to different "channels" within one audio device (like the Dante virtual soundcard), then there MAY be a way to do that.  MC has the ability to assign particular channels to a zone, and it works fine on our Windows product, but it hasn't been tested much on our Mac product that I'm aware of.  Here's a forum thread describing the feature (on Windows):

You would need to un-check "Open device with exclusive access" in the Device Settings dialog.

anneguthrie, did you manage to get this working?

We're using the DVS and JRiver with the intention of playing back three playlists to three separate zones.  Each zone outputting to a different pair of outputs on the ASIO driver.  It will play one zone perfectly but as soon as I try playing a second it fails with this message:

Playback could not be started on output 'ASIO' using the format '48kHz 2ch'.

Both our Soundweb and Dante networks (including the local Dante Virtual Soundcard) have been configured to input and output at 48K as has JRiver. ?
