Title: How to use with Marantz SA8005?
Post by: cupboy on May 18, 2014, 12:09:03 pm
I just get a message that says USB: Unlock displayed on the unit, and no sound. I can play the DSD through the MacBook speakers. This is quite useless if this is all the software does.

This is the same message that appears if nothing is even plugged into the Marantz USB B input.

Any idea how to get sound with the Marantz SA8005 using this software?

Have you read any of the audio setup topics on the wiki?  That's the first place to start.

MacBooks aren't supported by Marantz. I will be calling them tomorrow to discuss their misleading advertising.

If you can't get your MacBook working connected up to the Marantz SA8005 try this:

Connect USB Type A into your MacBook and USB Type B into the back of the Marantz SA8005 where it says "USB-DAC" under "DIGITAL AUDIO IN"
Make sure you have "USB-DAC" input on the Marantz.

Go to "System Preferences" on your MacBook
Then to "Sound"
Select "USB High Speed Audio"

Using "Spotlight" (click command & space bar) type in "Audio Midi Setup"
Select "USB High Speed Audio"
Format should be "192000.0 HZ"

Now try streaming something from the internet and "USB: Unlock" should change to "USB: 192K"

You should not have to go through the above process again each time you use it.

I hope this helps.

By the way, I just tried to connect up today and had a problem unless I followed the steps below in the exact order. It did not work when I already had the stream going on internet radio on my MacBook before doing the other steps. I also missed a step the previous time I posted and is noted below:

If you can't get your MacBook working connected up to the Marantz SA8005 try this:

Connect USB Type A into your MacBook and USB Type B into the back of the Marantz SA8005 where it says "USB-DAC" under "DIGITAL AUDIO IN"
Make sure you have "USB-DAC" input on the Marantz.

Go to "System Preferences" on your MacBook
Select "Sound"
*Select "Output" (*forgot this step before)
Select "USB High Speed Audio"

Open "Audio Midi Setup" To find it you can use "Spotlight" (click command & space bar) and type in "Audio Midi Setup"
Select "USB High Speed Audio"
*Format should be "192000.0 HZ" (If is says 96K change it to 192000.0 HZ

*Now try streaming something from the internet and "USB: Unlock" should change to "USB: 192K"
