I have found the Options screen is not maximising correctly making it very hard or impossible to use. JRiver MC Size is set to 150%. Windows desktop set to 3840 X 2160 and Scale at 300%. Screen shot attached. This was first reported here: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,138687.msg961872.html#msg961872

You may have more than one audio stream in your Makemkv ripped files, it not uncommon to have multiple audio streams.
To check, play the mkv and right click on the display then look at 'Streams', if a multi channel stream is available then switch to it, MC will remember this choice for future playback.
In mkv files multiple audio streams always have one set as 'default' and this the one that MC will playback as first choice.

Well, I spoke too soon. Despite being on DirectSound and it being somewhat more resilient, I just encountered a crash situation in MC32 after playing a Youtube video through Chrome, stopping and closing that video, and then returning to play music in MC32. It appeared to freeze, played a few fragments, then crashed.

I just think the software is highly finicky when it comes to the expected audio device being unavailable or in the process of resetting.

MC32 devs ... what can I do to help you debug this? Is there a logging system I can turn on and then send the outputs to you?

Have you checked the output format section of DSP studio in JRiver?  Sometimes when JRiver can't output it will try to set the settings to a "compatible" setting.  You might just need to switch the sampling rates back.

Thanks Craigmcg, sounds like you've got it all sorted! Much appreciated for the extra info - I'll certainly look into it.

Best,

Marc

Thanks for the explanation. I have only used Slack or Teams for conferencing etc and they each let me specify the audio device so that it is possible for me to use different audio devices in different applications (eg. I used my Poly bluetooth headset for my former company's Genesys Cloud phone system with my laptop mike/speakers being used for Teams so that I could use both simultaneously without echo). On one of my home pcs, I use the pc's speakers for listening from browsers etc and my Sennheiser headphones with MC32 (not simultaneous but no settings issues). I'm mentioning this in case you could make tweaks to your processes that could resolve the issues if there is not an easier way currently available to you. Good luck with the workarounds/solution!

If I right-click on a video file and choose tp ‘play’, it will default to my tv, which is configured as my 2nd monitor (HDMI). However, if I add the video file to ‘playing now’ to play later (e.g., along with other videos), clicking on the play button instead defaults to the primary monitor (i.E., MC’s standard display), and I have to manually pit MC into display view.

With the previous version of MC the behaviour was similar, but I somehow got it to stick defaulting to MC’s display view. With this version I don’t seem to be holding my mouth right.

I also remember earlier versions that allowed me to designate the 2nd monitor for video playback, but I haven’t been able to find that option for making it a preference (?)

Please advise… tia…

Are you using WASAPI output instead of Direct Sound?

In both bitstreaming cases I was using Direct Sound.

I'll add a toolbar button to the next build.  Thanks for the suggestion.
Thanks - that's a nice solution, especially since it can act as an indicator in the Customize Toolbar's "dim icons" mode.

FYI, attached is the Custom Toolbar Button I'm trying for Error Free Mode, intending to show that warning (and error) messages are blocked.  The image is simplified to work at very small scale and be recognizable in the low contrast "dim icons" mode.  Also attached is an alternative using text.

--> These avoid duplicating the <convert> and <ZoneSwitch> buttons, as well as the Options > Encoding icon for <ErrorFree>.  All default to the same image consisting of two opposing white arrows on gradient orange field.
