I think you need to give more detail as it depends what you are trying to achieve

e.g. upscaling dvd to 4k can take quite some horsepower

In normal circumstances, I run Media Center on a Windows 11 workstation that has an RTX 3070 GPU, which appears to run fine with a 65" OLED TV using the JRVR 'Quality Preset'.

However, I am now intending to buy a new Windows 11 laptop. This will occasionally be used for MC with a digital projector and I would appreciate some guidance on what GPU specification I should be looking for to get decent JRVR performance. The JRVR Balanced Preset is described as good for "high-end integrated graphics and mid-range dedicated graphics cards", while the Quality Preset is intended for "faster dedicated graphics cards".

My problem is that I don't know how those descriptions translate to the available GPU options in 2024. What currently counts as high-end integrated graphics and mid-range dedicated graphics cards as far as JRVR is concerned?

I like to share a 'Standard View' skin. I tried to submit the skin but I am unable to login. So, I decided to publish it using this forum. Anyone: feel free to use it.
About the skin: it's based on Modern Cards Dark, Black on Black, Windows (dark theme) and Tidal. I tested on Windows 10 Pro, Windows Display resolution: 1920x1080 (Size 150%), 3840x2160 (Size 250% and 300%), JRiver MC32, Font Segoe UI 10 pt and larger. Skin sizing from 50% to 400% without problems (exempt navigation issues above 200% of course).
I used the skin for the past month and it works well. No suprise: it's my default skin now...

The way it usually works is that when JRiver tries to play and can't at a certain sample rate it pops up a box that says "Playback could not be started using such and so settings do you want to try settings that might work?"  If you click "yes" on that box it does the thing where it sets DSP studio output format to fix the issue.  It's a feature that helps people setting up their systems for the first time or trying out new hardware, otherwise they'd just get a "this doesn't work, too bad!" error.

But it is very easy to click through that box and not realize that it will stay configured that way indefinitely!  Glad you got it fixed :-)

Yes, I suppose I could have clicked this without knowing while being frustrated when my power amp was crackling and then needed servicing. Thanks again!

Heads up, there is a problem if you try to install MC32 in the newly released Ubuntu 24.04 LTS...

Code: [Select]
mediacenter32 : Depends: libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37 but it is not installable
Unfortunately it looks like it ships with a newer libwebkit2gtk dependency. This may be able to be worked around using installJRMC with the --compat switch in the meantime, haven't checked yet.

I tried that and I still couldn't install it.

I just upgraded to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS "Noble" and there's no repo for it yet. I tried to add the "Jammy" one but there was a dependency error. So for now the only way I could ever use MediaCenter is if there was a Snap or a Flatpak version of it.

The problem with the EF is that it's pretty much unreadable at 16x16 and maybe also at 32x32. Not sure what's the scale on the top toolbar icons. Also, EF is possibly meaningless to many non-english users.
For 1920x1200 Dell 2412M (24" diagonal) monitor and Windows Display Scale = 100%, the Custom Toolbar icon sizes (derived from counting pixels in screenshots) are:

MC Size 100% ==> 16x16 pixels
MC Size 125% ==> 20x20 pixels
MC Size 150% ==> 24x24 pixels
etc.

At MC Size 100%, text in the previous icons (except for ErrorFree2) is too small to read.
At 150% everything works.

ErrorFree7.png (attached) with English text has Seqoe UI 36 point font and is readable at 100%, both greyed out and bright.  Bright yellow FF0000 field indicates a warning without constricting text size, while "E F" text makes the warning explicit in English.

My current personal preference is ErrorFree6a.png (or the first posted ErrorFree.png) with the red X over a "conventional" yellow triangle intended to indicate there are no warning messages in this mode.  If not 100% clear at first glance, I think the message is relatively easy to learn and remember (even though MC's actual popup messages seem to use a circled question mark on blue gradient).   ErrorFree9.png (attached) is still another variation.  I have tooltips turned on, which as you say also helps.

The attached "mode switch" button has a clear image at small scale but with a distinguishing yellow gradient field instead of the orange field used elsewhere in MC.  Personally, I find the symbol too ambiguous here - it really leans on the tooltip.

Enhancement Request (again):  Add adjustable icon size for the Custom Toolbar buttons, independent of View > Size.  For example, add a "Size" text box to the Customize Toolbar... buttons menu.   No idea if toolbar button size is currently skinnable in MC.  Note:  Other modern programs where toolbars play an important role, such as Inkscape and Gimp, allow toolbar icon sizes to be adjusted by the user in the UI preferences.

4/26/2024:  Multiple clarifications.  Add ErrorFree9.png and ErrorFree-ModeSwitch.png.
4/28/2024:  FYI, I have 19 toolbar buttons with settings:  Options > Tree & View > List > Show tooltips: Yes | Customize Toolbar > Text Options: No Text Labels

Hi, is it possible to implement the slide out feature from the Now Playing screen?  It's already available for any other screen, except for the Now Playing screen which can only be exited by hitting the "X" button on the top left.  Thanks for the consideration!
