I think this example will get you close to what you are looking for. You'll have to tailor it to your needs.

The 1st Custom statement returns all songs with the words blue or red (case insensitive) in the name field. To make it case sensitive, change the 10 to 9. (See https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Test_and_Comparison_Functions#IsEqual for a description of the mode values.)

[=isequal([name], blue ; red,10)]=1

The 2nd Custom statement filters out the returned name formats that you don't want (eg, in this example REmastered; FRreddIE; credIT; COLored; DELIVered).

[=isequal([name], blues ; mastered; redd; cred; ored; ered,10)]=0

The attached screenshot shows the Smartlist with returned rows in the background.

I think it's unlikely too, but it may be triggered by some specific character that AudibleImagery may have in his filenames or fields. There were recent changes to the handling of composed/decomposed chars in macos.

@Audible:
Jim is right that you should test your disk.

To rule out this type of corruption perhaps you can do this: the next time it happens, do NOT close MC; find this playlistx.jmd file in your library folder and make a copy of it to some other location. Then restart MC and make another copy of the same file. Then share both files here.

How do I go about checking my disk? Should I take it to a computer repair store?

I will make it a point to do what you said with respect to making a copy of the playlist.jmd file the next this happens which should be in the next couple of days.

Backing up daily would be a good idea.  Running a utility to check memory and disk also.

I'm always backing up with manual and automatic library backups in MC. I backed up manually and automatically about 20 times from 3/20 through 3/25. None of those backups saved the full playlist information except for one backup from 3/20.

After years of running Debian nearly a year ago I switched to Arch Linux and Gentoo. I prefer Arch Linux by a large margin.
I only use MC for Audio and as I have a few overpriced DAC's I've had few mystifying issues (but when I do get them they're doozies!)
Using either AUR or dpkg I can easily install MC. At times there are some dependency issues (mainly things being in the wrong place) but all the dependencies are in the Video section. I've little interest in that end but in tests the video, while it plays, it can be loaded with artifacts. I've causually searched and feel comfortable that MC is the best tool for playing and cataloging my music collection by a huge margin.

NEVER have MC, or any other software, Open while an Apple OS update is downloading, preparing itself for Install or when it asks for a Restart to happen as all sorts of strange things can, and will happen, while an OS Update is doing it's thing.

I will avoid letting my Mac close MC for updates in the future but this problem with my playlists randomly deleting has happened in other circumstances.

Just an FYI if someone finds this thread because they have a similar problem.  After a bunch of trial and error, all related drivers updated to mid march 2024 and AMD adrenaline 24.1.1 seems to solve the issue.

This is not the latest version from late February 2024 (24.2.1 as of writing), and it does not work with other older device drivers.

I have corrected the issue through a tip by another user (shout-out to whoareyou).  It took me more than 11 weeks to get all the many components and versions aligned to solve the issue for now.

For open source, or community based software, I guess that's OK, but for software with its type of recurring cost to update, I think it isn't appropriate, especially after a user demonstrates an effort to do 6 weeks of troubleshooting.

There are some constraints in my current set-up that Media-Center solves in the easiest way (I need my audio output for movies to be AC3 5.1, and audio for audio dependent on source). So for me it is worth the cost and effort.

I did a search on "multiple artists folder" and found this from Matt (JRiver).

"Albums will appear as "(Multiple Artists)" when the files are in the same folder (and other albums aren't in the folder), the track have differing artist values, and the track numbers are sequential starting at 1.

You can always edit the Album Artist field, and it will override the automatic "(Multiple Artists)" text."

Please explain why this is happening. See graphic. Here is the sequence of events

1) select music & start playback
2) dinner not quite ready, listen to music, check my inbox etc.
3) After Playback Expression working just fine
4) move to the table for dinner
5) laptop senses inactivity and turns monitor off
6) After Playback Expression stops working
7) dinners over tap laptop to resume whatever
8) notice that the After Playback Expression has not executed for several songs
9) While I am watching the queue the After Playback Expression starts working again

It seems to me that there is something about when the After Playback Expression executes that is affected by any number of MC events. Can you help provide Insite about what is going on?
