Media Center 11.0.21 Alpha (NOT RECOMMENDED)
« on: July 08, 2004, 05:11:36 pm »

We're just starting work on Media Center 11.  From time to time, we'll share our progress.

Think of these early builds like the hole in the ground before you start building a house.  Much like the hole, it's hard to get excited about these builds, and if you're not careful with them, you'll get hurt.

Major changes to allow guest users and side-by-side installs of MC were recently made.  You will lose your MC 10 settings.  Some plugins will not work yet.  Side-by-side installs are not functioning yet.

Please uninstall builds prior to MC 11.0.12 before installing. (no need to uninstall 11.0.12)  As always, backup your library.

ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter110021.exe

11.0.21 (7/8/04)

1. NEW: Translation engine translates trees, list headers, tabs, the Action Window list, and most tooltips.
2. NEW: Multimedia keys hooked in a different way -- will hopefully provide support on more systems. (let us know)
3. Changed: Several enhancements to translation engine. (note: if you want a custom Language.txt, keep it in [MC]\Data\Custom Resources so it won't be overwritten during installs)
4. Changed: Current playback zone remembered between MC sessions.
5. Changed: Added zone display (if zones are named) to playing info in player bar.
6. Fixed: MC would not load its Playing Now list for zones other than the first zone.
7. Fixed: MC could cover an auto-hidden taskbar on startup. (hopefully fixed -- let us know)
8. Fixed: Editing a wide column in a narrow list control could cause it to scroll so that the beginning of the field was out of view.
9. Fixed: In-place editing values that differed only by case could cause unexpected results in some cases.

The case that I outlined in the 11.0.20 thread seems to be fixed!  Thanks guys!  :)

1- When scanning, some of the scanner's menu dialog windows came up partially skinned, making them unreadable

2- I dunno if this ever worked or was even supposed to because I never tried, but;
I cannot show the Playing Now window list-style as Album Thumbnail.
(I wanted to do this so as to be able to sort or randomize Albums rather than songs, perhaps there is another way?)

3- MC no longer prevents Windows Taskbar from auto-showing (in my case anyway)

4- On import, MC always shows broken links repaired as caused by outside changes, yet the changes had actually been made using MC and somehow got 'lost'.  (I have seen file icons change to a broken link icon one-by-one over several minutes after some file renaming)

First we need to get our stuff working.  Then we'll figure out 3rd party plugins.

Plan on a week or two.  We may need authors to update their plugins in some cases.

It's not possible to group in a view where order is important.   It wouldn't work if the list was like:

1: Album A - Track 1
2: Album B - Track 1
3: Album A - Track 2

Since A is broken up, it couldn't really be grouped.

Not sure if this has been reported yet, I'm using v20.

When tagging images the little red check marks don't show up for me.  The image tag gets applied, but you can't tell while you are in tagging mode.

Are the multimedia keys working with this build for everyone? (if so, what OS are you on)

Also, is MC ever covering an auto-hide taskbar for anyone now?

Thanks.

MC 11 is not covering an auto-hide taskbar, but MC 10 does.

Sorry forgot to maximize MC 10.

Multimedia keys: Don't know what you mean.

I had a repeat of the "Unable to play selected files" as reported previously (see quote below).  This time none of the zones worked, and changing sound card settings did nothing. A reboot fixed it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On 2 seperate occaisions since installing this version, MC reported that it 'Cannot play the selected file(s)'.
This occurred once while it was actually playing the song, and quit playing in mid-tune to display the message.  The file type did not matter, and the only way to get it to play again was to switch the playback settings to my other soundcard.
Somehow it 'healed' itself and I was able to go back to the SoundBlaster this morning (shutting down and restarting MC did not help).
Both times that it occurred was with my SoundBlaster using Kx Project drivers, my Terratec has not experienced this issue.
If it occurrs again I will try to isolate more circumstances.
