TV Channels not saved
« on: November 07, 2015, 03:03:26 pm »

My TV Channels are being lost when I quit and restart MC. They scan ok and can be used during that same MC session, but as soon as I quit MC I then have to re-scan again.
Occurring on 2 separate PC's.

1. Win10, MC 21.0.19, VideoMate E750 DVBT Tuner
2. Win7, MC 21.0.15, WinFast DTV Dongle BDA

Are there any logs I can collect to assist with troubleshooting?

thanks!

Are you running the computer as a client?

If so, you should consider putting your TV tuners on the server and scan channels on the server.

Consider the two pc's as standalone devices. They each have their own TV Tuner.
I do have another pc running as a server, but only for library and it is not possible to install a TV Tuner to that pc (virtualised on Hyper-V).

Does using a shared library have any impact on the tv channel selection?
If so can this behavior be changed? (In this case the media server does not have a tv tuner, only the client devices have tv tuners and should be able to manage their own tv channels.)

Thanks!

Yaobing will need to confirm, but I believe that, if you are using MC in client / server mode, the TV tuners will have to be on the server.

To use the TV tuners on your current clients, you would need to use local (not server) libraries.  One of the two current clients might be used to host the tuners and the other be used as its client.

Ok some further info....

I just tried changing back to the "main library", scanned the TV channels, quit MC and then started again. TV Channels are still there. If I change to the share library server then all TV Channels are lost.

I think I understand what is happening here, however it's not an optimal solution! I'd consider the TV tuner and channels to be a "local" resource, not something share from the MC server, unless those TV channels are configured on the MC server. Being a local resource they should be available on the client at all times. (Think of the analogy of a local CD/DVD drive - would you expect to lose access to a local CD/DVD drive it you were using a shared library and the server didn't have a CD/DVD drive?)

Is there a way around this?
Is it a bug or feature omission?

How can I use the shared library functions but still be able to use the local TV Tuner and channels?

The TV Channels will be the same across both pc's, so is there a way to save these channels to the server and share them? Would that be a work-around?

thanks!

Please take a look at my remarks in this thread.

When a PC is running in client mode, it is using the server library.  Channels and programs are part of the library.

Have you allowed clients to sync data back to the server?  I believe if you do, then the channels scanned on the client can be saved to the server.  That way both of your client PCs can share the same set of channels.

thank you - an update on this issue.

Yes it was trying to save the channels to the server library. However as it was default config with no authentication enabled there was no saving of the channels to the library. As soon as I enabled library sync I was then able to save the channels.

FWIW I'm not sure I agree with this application behaviour. There was no notification or warning to say the scanned channels were not being saved, and I needed to specifically go to the library section and click on the "Sync Library..." button for the channels to be saved. Not very intuitive for first time use.

Thanks for all your help - much appreciated :)
