Play Doctor
« on: December 30, 2015, 04:39:09 pm »

Play Doctor says to enter any genre artist or song. However, it doesn't show genre when entering the text. By that I mean for example:

I enter 'Death Metal'. Play Doctor suggests various songs or album titles (all with name next to the suggestion) but doesn't suggest death metal as a genre.

Is that intended? I can limit the list to death metal obviously by adding rules but wouldn't it make sense to suggest the genre if it matches what you've typed?

What is the full version number of Media Center that you're using?

For whatever it's worth, the genre is the top recommendation as I start to type any genre in my library.

Using version .27.

After seeing the reply, I tried other genres. Thrash/Speed Metal, for instance, did show as did Progressive Rock but Progressive Metal did not. I attached a screen shot showing the results of my search for death metal:

I made an adjustment to the search Play Doctor uses, which should be out in build 33. This should resolve the issue.

Hey Brad

Have you had a chance to tweak this yet? Didn't see anything on the release notes, seems to work a bit better, for genres (although I got a Deep Purple Song typing in a genre Alt. Country still). When using song name and Artist though it behaves pretty strangely.

What mystery magic (search criteria) are you using.  :D Are you using external dbs metadata for this by any chance?

running v34 for info

The tweak I made was included in build 33; however, it should only affect how "intuitive" the search suggestions are. I have a hunch (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) that you're referring to the actual matching Play Doctor uses when finding similar tracks to the search query. If this is what you're referring to, that's actually a different part of the program than what I was working on. You are right that it uses an external database to select similar tracks, though. So, that might be the source of some strange matches.
