This is the scenario:

1.- Putting a CD to rip with MC (version 9.0)
2.- Connecting to YADB, it fails to find it.
3.- Opening up MusicMatch (or other app). Searching its database. Successfully found. The info has been stored in cdplayer.ini.


Now, what I woud like to do is:

4.- MC to copy the info in cdplayer.ini to overwrite the unknown album, unknown title stuff.
5.- Rip the CD with MC
6.- Upload the info to YADB.

I do not seem to be able to do the above. Only if the CD has never been "connected" to YADB to find the info, then MC grabs the info from cdplayer.ini.

Am I doing something wrong? Can items 4,5 and 6 be achieved even if the CD failed once to find the info in YADB? How do I do that?

After tagging in MMJB (or other app), import file from file location into MC libraryand you should be good to go. You can also use Library Tools > Update Library From Tags, if you've already imported the file(s).

Thanks for the answer, but If I'm not wrong, doing what you suggest assumes that the CD has already been ripped with the other app and therefore the files can be imported into MC.  However, I actually would like to rip it with MC, so my scenario refers to not-yet-ripped files for whom I get the info but not the tags.

Sorry if I'm not very clear. I will rephrase my question if needed.

I use MC to rip cds as well, the wav, ape or mp3 files are stored on my Media hard drive. If MC/Yadb can't find the info, I then open MMJB, use "add" from the hard drive and then use the super tagging . When you hit "apply" the files on your hard drive are then updated or "tagged". Go back to MC, and  use Library Tools to update MC library from the newly tagged/updated files in you hard drive.(this won't work with ape file as MMJB doesn't recognize them).

If this doesn't answer your question, I guess I'm not getting it.

I use EAC and freedb to lookup the CD then export it to cdplayer.ini from EAC.  In 9.0.180 I delete the unknown CD and MC then finds it in cdplayer.ini when I refresh the drive.

I run Win98 SE so I delete old entries from cdplayer.ini to keep it under the 64KB limit on ini files.

Yes, that's the key. You need to delete the "unknown" CD from MC's database and then when you re-insert it MC will start from scratch and check cdplayer.ini for the info.

Use MusicMatch first and set MC to NOT access YADB.

When i rip cds ,i allways get cd infos first.
Like it ,you can use automatic rip after that.

Yes ,it is me.

In fact i allmost never use MM to get cd infos.

I rip with a program using FreeDB where i got around 96% of infos.
Most of the time ,Real gives me the 4% missing
If not i use MM ,sometimes ,using they 'search window' you get results.

Of cause ,i do have to enter some. But only a small number ,like 5 cds to fill infos every 100 cds .

If you have to rip a lot of cds , really ,my way is the best.
First ,get cd infos,ONLY.
If you have to try more than one program , back to the program you use to rip , it can be quitte a mess.

So get infos for the cds, set MC to not contact YADB ,set your convertion rates as you want and set to AutoRip.

Like it ,you just have to put one cd after one.

I was a great supporter of YADB and uploaded TONS of cdinfos.

In fact i'am still a suporter.
But i can not stand anymore the way MC deal with cds.
All this 'updating volumes'  ect ect ,to have to delete the Unknow entry and so on.
If you want to play a single cd , you need more time than the lenght of the song....
