Printing out Artist names
« on: August 03, 2003, 06:35:25 pm »

I want to print a list of artist names in MC 9.1.  No song titles (too many files) just artist names.

Is there a way to do that?

lol.

Hello Moto! :)

Not an easy one no.

What would be GREAT and work perfectly would be if we could print out or even just copy the list in the panes but unfortunately at present we cant.

Only thing I can suggest is have all your files showing in the library - then for search enter:  [track #] = 1

that'll then reduce it down to a list of artist - albums

Cant think of a way to get rid of the duplicates for artist caused by albums sorry :)

Presumably you know that it's possible to print out a list of Album Artist/Album?  Not sure if this is any use to you.

I don't have access to MC at the mo but from memory you select the Statistics View in the properties pane then press the right hand icon to configure the view.  There's an option to list Artist / Album.  Then you simply select all (Ctrl+A) and copy / paste.

I can't think of any way to print just artists without exporting your library to XML and then doing something clever from there but don't ask me what as I haven't the first idea when it comes to XML!.  Sorry can't be more help.

I'm working on my first plugin which exports your view schemes. Basically you can set which view scheme to start at, and how many levels deep to go, and whether you want it to print out the files in the final level, and then it exports it to a file.

So for example if you can create a view scheme which does Genre / Artist / Album or whatever, and the plugin can create an HTML version of this free. Optionally, the last level of the tree can list the tracks in the album.

Currently it does 2 different types of HTML (a basic layout and a clever javascript tree-style design). This at-least puts MC above and beyond WinAmps Export-To-HTML option.

The first release I should be finished this week.

JLee - I had NO idea this was possible.

I never think about the other screens available there as they are all so hidden I just never remember them.

Firstly you have to go down to the bottom to make the bar visible as normally it is auto hiding, then u have to click on the bar after u've discovered it to see the other options available here. Not exactly the best reminder of its existance :)

A permenant set of tabs saying:
Properties/Playlist/Format/Image/Statistics
Would make it a LOT faster to swap between windows and would also make people aware of the other screens.

Theres no visual reminder that they are there and so I just have it set to file properties and leave it at that.
Thats the first time I've been aware of that feature, its pretty well hidden.

It'd be a BIG improvement if a menu item was added:

File/Print Library Info>
1. Overview
2. Album
3. Artist - Album
4. Rating Breakdown

Bring this feature RIGHT to the surface - it's something I've seen a few requests from people on how do they do it - over the last few months.
