Current Status of DRM/CableCard Content with HDHomeRun Prime
« on: September 22, 2016, 04:30:35 am »

I have one system that I have left at Windows 7 to continue to use Windows Media Center with my HDHomeRun Prime.

My work schedule prevents me from staying up to watch my favorite shows, which I have been recording.

Has JRiver worked to include DRM/Cable Card support on your product?

I've tried KODI and that's no go. I am unable to download the version Silicon Dust has on the Windows App store, not sure why. But, as I understand it... It still doesn't include DRM/Cable Card support.

Where does JRiver stand and is there a direction being pursued?

JRiver tried a kickstarter a ways back, but they didn't even get close to their goal. You can search to find out more. Doubt they'd fund it on their own since the upfront cost is so high.

The HDHomeRun kickstarter that got funded has been making glacial progress, but it's still unclear how well they will support DRM. One of their goals is for live TV, but I don't think it is primary.

MC only supports cable card "Copy Freely" content at this time.

I believe some people use this card (or similar) to record from a Set Top Box:

Please try a search here.

Good luck finding a cable box with component video though.  At least in my area, they are impossible to find.

The Colossus 2 has two HDMI ports (allows recording on HDMI) but they caution that the set-top box must also allow recording of its HDMI output (copy-freely ?). http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_colossus2.html

EDIT: BTW, I use a "View HD" "VHD-1X2MN3D" HMDI splitter, which removes or by-passes the HDCP.

CCI and HDCP are not the same thing. HDCP is what would prevent the recording with the Colossus. There are ways to get around HDCP. DCMA, illegal, blah, blah, blah...so you'll have to search and figure it out yourself.
