issues with Windows 10 - MC22 and EPG --
« on: September 11, 2016, 05:21:06 pm »

i have not been able to get EPG to work. i have tried to use all the different methods zap2it, titantv and ato with no positive results. I'm looking for any assistance. i have downloaded the new 1.6 version of MC2XML, but MC22 does not run it. it still runs 1.4.
i set the xmltv to run using the zap2xml.exe seemed to work gives the auto match channels, then says the program guide file is not valid, or does not contain any program information. when i look at the zap2 on internet the channels list and show programs.
any ideas?

Which country are you in?

If in the US, you should be able to use mc2xml option.

If it does not work, it could be that the EPG data is temporarily not available from the EPG server.  You can try running your copy of version 1.6 mc2xml outside of MC manually, and see if it produce a valid xmltv file.

I'm in the US. I ran mc2xml version 1.6 how would i know if the xmltv file is valid.
I got the apps within mc22 to run for a few days, then it quit again.

I'm in the US. I ran mc2xml version 1.6 how would i know if the xmltv file is valid.

Find your version 1.6 of mc2xml.exe.  If there are files xmltv.dat and xmltv.xml in the same folder, delete them (or, if you do not want to delete them, you can copy mc2xml.exe into a subfolder so it is all by itself).  Double-click the exe file that is all alone.  You will be asked to input your country, postal code.  Then you will be asked to choose your TV lineup.  I am sure you know all of these.  I just want to make sure that you run it once with a clean slate, so you can make sure you choose exactly the correct lineup for the correct location.

Now, after it finishes, mc2xml will create a file called xmltv.xml, in the same folder as the exe itself.  Open this file in a text editor.  Near the top of the file is a list of your channels.  You can check if all expected channels are there (most likely they are).  Scroll down, you should find program entries like this:

<programme start="20160918183000 -0500" stop="20160918190000 -0500" channel="I663.40840873.microsoft.com">

It is impossible to check every program in the file.  But notice that every program has a start= attribute.  It is the date and time the program starts.  You can at least do a search of "20160927" string, for example, and to see whether the guide extends to 2016-09-27, or beyond.  For me, "20160927" is the highest date I can find.  That is not great.  Searching 20160928 yielded nothing.

mc2xml 1.6 manually run (microsoft legacy, 6. digital terrestrial) gives me the information in the file has 2015 dates??

when i have jriver running mc2xml with titantv (and token) the loading epg data line seems to stay up running. it sets a -U:UTFB option== execution of external program was successful, but no data was loaded???

when I run zap2xml manually the file it creates seems correct, but  I use JRiver the file contains start="20160920120000 thru start="20160927103000 -0600 data. when I use JRiver it does not create the xmltv file. the execution string has a comma after the password before the datafile. The string appears to be space delimited, but there is no space between the password and “Datafile”.

I believe you should be running option 9: Microsoft media center Win7+ service, when you run mc2xml v1.6 separately, which I think still requires that you be a donor above the $20 level and request a version where this works. Not sure. There is also a lot of good information over at http://mc2xml.awardspace.info/ Read the fine print.

Read http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,100319.0.html and re-setup your EPG if the mc2xml option isn't working in MC.

is there a way to get the 1.6 version to run with mc22, or does it always use 1.4? if it uses 1.4 why should I run 1.6 off-line if it does not update the epg.

Our agreements with the developer of mc2xml only allow us to use 1.4 at this time.

And as far as I know, 1.6 offers other extra stuff, but the basic operation is the same.  When I asked you to run 1.6 outside of MC, I meant for you to verify whether you were able to get data when MC could not.  I believe if you can not get new data in MC, you can not get data using 1.6 either.

As RoderickGI pointed out, if you use 1.6, you still need to use the donorware version of it.  Otherwise you will still have the "Microsoft" option disabled.  The Microsoft Legacy mode is useless since Microsoft no longer updates data on it.

I am not sure I understood you.

Are you trying to use zap2xml inside MC?  The way to do it is to use "XMLTV" option in MC and enter the parameters that zap2xml needs on the line that says "Pass these command line arguments to the executable".

Alternatively, you can run zap2xml externally and have it produce an xmltv output in a specific location, and just have MC to load the file from that location.

Joe, do yourself a favor and pay ($25/yr) for the Schedules Direct subscription (or PercData). It's worth the few dollars for good EPG data.
http://www.schedulesdirect.org/
If you decide to do that, post back and I can help you set it up - if you need any help.

sure I'll sign up for the Schedules Direct subscription. it asks for what software I'm using. it's a large list i don't see jriver Media center on the list. what should i pick?

BTW i used zap2xml ran it in a cmd window and within MC22. when i used the cmd window it worked great, but within MC22 it put a comma after the password before the key word 'datafile'.

I'll use the paid subscription no problem.

It doesn't matter. "sdJSON" is fine. I don't recall being asked when I signed up. In the XMLTV v1.6 setup (for use by the JRiver program) your going to get your EPG data from the "Schedules Direct JSON" service.

At the Schedules Direct site, you should have a username and Password. Then log in and go to the Account Overview page, where you "add" a new lineup. However if you are using the JSON lineup (which I recommend), you don't need to do this.
You would just follow these instructions https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,100319.msg695326.html#msg695326

In Summary:
1) Create a new folder on your C: drive (or whatever letter has your Operating System). Name the folder something like "C:\mc2xml"
2) Download the mc2xml program (ver 1.6) to the new folder.
3) Run the program. Select Schedules Direct JSON, enter your Username and password, and zip code. Next screen select the type of EPG data (like "Over the Air").
4) After running the program, two files will be created in the folder: mc2xml.dat and xmltv.xml
5) In JRiver TV setup, select XMLTV (see step 6 in the link above).

Post back if you need help. I usually check this forum a couple of times a day.

Make sure you have the "Automatically load program guide every day" checkbox ticked, as shown in this photo:
https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,100319.msg695340.html#msg695340

And you must have MC (or Media Server) running:

i mark the mc2xml; it comes up with version 1.4; i check schedules direct - enter the id and password (they do NOT stay, they reset) it goes away and brings the dialog box back (cleared).
does not load the epg. the dialog keeps re-cycling. the cmd window box says 0 channels 0 programs
the info box in MC22 says execution successful, but no data was loaded
i do not understand

We are using 'MC2XML' through my login on [schedulesdirect.org]. It has shown no info available for a few days now. the response was 'you need to contact the MC2XML author, or switch to one of the other JSON->XML converters.'
what should i use?

Joe, a couple of posts up you said you had version 1.4 of mc2xml. You need to use ver 1.5 or 1.6 to get the JSON feature. Ver 1.4 is the mc2xml version built-in to MC. Version 1.5 and 1.6 are the "stand-alone" programs (which is what you want).

I would try running the mc2xml.exe program manually. Just browse to the folder where it is located and double click it. That should bring up the Schedules Direct download window.

Does  the MC program show that TV Guide did "refresh" (even if no new info was added)?

Did the Schedules Direct program/setup work at one time? I assume it did
If you run the mc2xml program manually, note which version it is (1.5 or 1.6) on the top line of the window. You would of course select the SD "JSON" choice which will require you to input your SD username and password, and zip code. The next window asks you to select the tv guide data type (OTA, Cable, etc.).

everything seemed to work for a while, then it stopped. i checked with schedule direct they suggested i use a different program. this evening, i re-ran the program it seemed the user name was different. i re-ran with a corrected user name and it seems to be ok. not sure why the name would change, but i now have a schedule again.
