Restore issue
« on: December 06, 2016, 06:44:11 pm »

I went to turn on JR and saw a screen that prompted me to enter my license key. After doing so, I was able to enter JR and use as expected.

Later , I noticed an email saying that I needed to restore my license, adding that I had nine restores (out of ten per year) left, and something about the restore being temporary for only 14 days.

What is going on? I find this entire experience baffling and frustrating, and I'm not sure exactly what it is that I'm being instructed to do.

The only event that I can think of that might have some bearing on this issue is that I inadvertently deleted my entire library, which included the files previously loaded from an external drive containing the material used for playback via JR. I subsequently reloaded the files, and JR worked as expected for a brief time after.

I'm beginning to wonder if perhaps JR is more trouble than it's worth (the $49.95 or whatever that I paid. I hope not.

If you enter your license key you are using a "Restore", and we'll mail you when this happens - this is when you got your mail. So everything worked as expected.
In the mail you also get a keyfile which you can use to unlock further installs on different systems - this key file is valid for 14 days, after that you would need to use the license code again and use another "Restore" if you want to unlock further MC installs.

The install key file is only offered as a convenience to unlock multiple systems - if you already unlocked your copy of MC on your PC, then you can just ignore it.

Once MC is unlocked with a license code or the key file, it'll stay unlocked forever, there is no time limit there, so you have nothing to worry about, and don't need to do anything.

Thanks for the reply, Hendrik.

Okay, I think I understand the gist of what you're saying; that once I entered my license key to "restart" JR, that I shouldn't have to do anything else as long as I don't want to add a device on which I would be using JR. ( I don't, at least for now).
However, I'm still puzzled as to what caused JR to prompt me to enter my key before allowing access to my account. Was that related to my issue of the 160,000 or so music files that I'd inadvertently deleted from the Library and subsequently had to reload?

reg cleaners such as ccleaner will do this if you don't have them set correctly...
