Hi

as many CDs and therefore the ripped flac-file has intersample clipping (ISC).
Now how does JRiver handle these files, outputting the values to the DAC?

Additionally, if samplerate change is selected, is there a problem with the clipping or is the level normalized to avoid clipping before oversampling. If floating point is used it should be easy to do.

As there are two samplerate algorithms, the standard one and the new SOX, are they handling ISC the same way?

Our internal audio processing uses double-precision floating point, so internally it never clips, at least until the output stage when its converted back to integer.

If you reduce the volume at all, be it manually through internal volume or using volume leveling (which detects intersample peaks as well and reduces the volume if needed), then there is no problem.
If you don't reduce it by default, then our peak limiter can either flat-line the clipping peaks or reduce the volume, depending on which mode you have it running in.

On the other hand, if you don't modify the audio at all, then its just output bitexact as it was on the CD, and any interpetation of the digital signal is left up to the DAC.

The safest choice is to let MC analyze the audio and use volume leveling. Not only does it avoid any potential problems from clipping due to inter-sample peaks, it also provides a uniform volume level through all content.
