Shelf filter slope?
« on: March 15, 2017, 09:13:32 am »

Hello,

I would like to know what the slope setting is (dB/octave) for the high shelf and low shelf filters of the Parametric EQ
I can change the frequency, the Q and the dB and the channels but I cannot see the slope setting
Thank you

you can calculate S from Q as per https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,99096.msg686082.html#msg686082

solving for S gives you

Code: [Select]
S = 1/((((1/Q)^2-2)/((10^(d/40))+1/(10^(d/40))))+1)
there isn't a straight mapping to 1st order or 2nd order so you can use a loopback or the minidsp spreadsheet to visualise what the resulting slope actually looks like

A visualization in JRiver would be great to see these filters in action though

Analyzer in DSP Studio should do a pretty good job.

You can use Tools > Advanced Tools > Audio Calibration to play things like pink noise.

+1

It's hard/impossible to see small notch filters in the pink noise visualizer.
