Playing a PAL DVD in North America
« on: September 03, 2017, 11:59:17 am »

Is it possible to play a PAL format DVD here in North America (NTSC land) through Media Center?

I don't use MC to play back physical discs.  I only play files from hard drives.  Most of these come from physical optical discs that I rip to files.

I have a small number of PAL DVDs that I have ripped using MakeMKV.  Conveniently, MakeMKV doesn't care about the region coding one bit.  It just takes an extra 10 seconds to do some kind of workaround, and then rips it at full speed.

The 25 fps nature of the PAL video in the file is handled transparently by MC.  These rips play like any other video file with no issues.

Not sure if that is what you wanted, but it's worked for me.

Good luck.

Brian.

If you're trying to playback physical DVDs you'll need software like AnyDVD to playback PAL DVDs in NTSC regions.
