When audiophiles become idiotphiles, or is it serious boredom?

That's one of the most interesting articles I've read in a long time. Man...170 dB's? That is quite extreme.

I remember Top Gear (brit TV motoring) doing an article on this stuff. I remember them saying that to be in the car when they do that would kill you, literally. I also remember my instant reaction, and it's still the same....
"why?" just seems (a) pointless (b) huge waste of money, time and sweet audio gear.

Ach well, each to their own.

btw, on a sidenote, did anyone else fib on the intro form they hit you with before showing the article?
I couldn't help myself, I told them I was a 103 year old female from Aruba!!!!!!!!!

Where the heck is Aruba when it's at home anyway? Geography was never my forte!!!

Yea, they do that periodically (much to my wife's dismay I read the washpost online everyday) and I don't think I've once given them anywhere near the correct info...it's just too tempting to mess with them ;D...
