Can't get seek to work while playing over DLNA
« on: March 08, 2016, 02:08:33 pm »

So I moved from PC + DAC combination to PC + Network Player combination. I got myself Naim NDX network player. For now my PC acts as a server. I've been experimenting with many different server software and JRiver seems to do many things right. Good choice for library management and works great as server also. And it was the only way to get last.fm scrobbling to work while streaming. I'm about to pull the trigger and buy the license but there's one little problem I just found.

Everything else seems to work as it should but for some reason, I can't seek tracks (I mean jump on tracks to certain position, sorry for my english) if I use JRiver server. With Asset UPnP and foobar2000 + foo_upnp the seek function works flawlessly though. I've tried with every setting I could imagine affecting it but no. My library is in FLAC format, I use Windows 10. I started the server in Audiophile mode and stream files in original format to the streamer. I tried with specified output format / PCM 24bit also but the seek function still didn't work.

Any ideas how to get the seek to work?

Thanks

How are you using the Naim client and the MC DLNA server ?

Are you "pulling" the files by browsing the server through the Naim interface, or are you "pushing" the files to the Naim from MC, by using MC GUI ?

I've noticed that both ways work. If I'm sitting at computer I might use the send function on MC to play through NDX. If listening on sweet spot, then I use the Naim's own app. It doesn't make any difference, the seek function doesn't work no matter how I play the files. It doesn't work on the MC seek bar and it doesn't work on the iPad/iPhone control point seek bar.

In that case, I have no idea, sorry.

Seems that Naim made some progress: I own a (older) Naim Uniti, which works perfectly when pulling, but awfully randomly when pushing music from MC. I was thinking that maybe you were in the second case.

Good to know that the NDX seems to work better. Apart from seeking :-(

Yes, well seeking works also flawlessly with other servers but not with MC. There must be a way to make it work since everything else works so well with MC.

Did anyone find a solution to this? I am streaming audio from JR Media Center to a Cambridge CXN using DLNA. It plays, but I can't use the seek function or move forward to backward in the track.

What media format are you playing? MC has known weaknesses on Seek with certain formats.

I'm playing mp3's. The only functions that will work are PLAY, PAUSE and STOP. I can't drag the slider forward to a specific spot in the track, or move around. It simply goes back to the beginning. Kind of frustrating when the track is very long.

Here's a screen shot of IOS App. You can see "line" showing the progress of the track, there is no "button" at the end of the line that you can drag.

On my computer, I drag the "seek line" forward, but it does nothing and just jumps back to wherever the track is already playing.

Set the MC DLNA server to Always Convert to L16 No Header. And push the tracks from MC to the renderer rather than pulling to it.
