I've noticed this a couple of times recently, scenario is using handheld sync to convert flac to mp3 where the target device is just some directory. I have it set to convert to mp3 always with volume levelling on and to use 8 simultaneous threads. The process freezes at a random point and I can see 1 or more lame threads hanging around doing nothing. If I cancel then nothing happens til I forcibly kill the lame child processes. MC then whites out for a short period and then recovers. If I change to 1 thread and then repeat the conversion, it completes normally.
