Petition for crossfade-enhancement
« on: June 10, 2003, 09:50:56 pm »

Since MC is getting a new face in 9.1, wouldn't it be the right time for enhancing the crossfader by adding it onto the main-screen, so the user can adjust the settings during playback without having to stop playback & opening additional windows??

I guess it is completely the right moment now, later on the new GUI is fixed, so we'll have to wait again for GUI changes until we see the crossfader on-screen!

Please, everybody who wants this crossfade-enhancement,please post here, perhaps we can force the perfect team behind MC if there is enough interest for that.

U have my vote, but not just for crossfade but to be able to click a button and see the playing controls extend and to get a bunch of advanced playback controls.
Tempo, speed, cross fade etc.

Im all for adding a speed control combined with an A-B repeat.  That would be great for trying to nail difficult guitar riffs.  And when you are as lames at learning them as me you need all the help you can get;D

I don't really agree, I'm afraid, for the crossfade controls in the main gui - you can manage multiple crossfade configs using the Zones feature, I don't see why anyone would want to continually change it via the gui in real time.

I've tried the speed control in WMP9, and don't use it all that much. I guess it would come in handy for learning a very fast riff. I'm not sure what other uses it would have...

Now an A-B loop - THAT would be handy... (IMHO). Unfortunately it seems my thread is pretty much being ignored...:-/ - Here's the thread anyway: http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=MediaCenter;action=display;num=1055009170

Sorry everyone if I don't agree, I still wish you luck in getting your wishes granted.  :)

Never had a look at BPM studio or any other advanced DJ-tool?

kwake - it would be under advanced playback controls so it woulnd't effect anyone who didn't want to use it.

It'd be no different to something like the extra tools bundled with MC - they dont effect you unless u want them.

As for tempo control etc - they're more use if u dont just listen to the music for the sake of listening to the music, if u use it for learning instruments, DJing, dancing (as in doing classes and teaching choreographed dance routines (this is what I want it for)), etc.

Also - a track intro mode would be VERY welcomed, especially with options to allow us to specify which part of the track it started from and how long it played for.

Nearly ALL hardware players have an intro mode and it's for good reason - so we can check songs we dont recognise by name. With LARGE collections this is especially important.

Raistlin, I had never thought of D-Jays using Media Center, but I can see your point now! In that case it would be tres cool.

And Nila, I also ignored the fact that artists other than musicians (and musicians of all types of instruments) would find Media Center helpful, therefore I apologize to the dancers using MC9!

Wow, imagine how versatile a program this could become for all types of artists around the world if these enhancement requests were eventually integrated into MC (either directly or via plugin, as Nila mentions)! 8)

Speed control is also useful when listening to books on CD or when listening to language learning tapes/CDs. You can speed up playback if you want to. For example, when I want a refresher of a Portuguese lesson I've already done, I'll re-do it at 1.2x or 1.25x speed. I don't need the extra pauses because I've done the lesson before.

Actually I used MJ with a laptop and an iPod (it's nice to have something among the CD's, just for security) for a few parties. Besides MJ I used "Mixmeister Pro" for mixing the tracks. Enhancing the crossfader as suggested would be very useful for me.

For me not a "must have", but a "nice to have".

Kwake, you got me!! ;)

You see, BPM Studio is the most advanced DJ, but the database is indeed crap! Especially when having more than 15.000 tracks in the database.

MC on the other hand, has the most experiened and user-versatile database, moreover it offers unlimited encoder-support for all known encoders via the plugin-system, BPm has only one encoder :(

That's the reason why some people dream of a MC-database  with playback-capabilties of BPM Studio :)
