Hevc
« on: July 03, 2018, 05:49:04 am »

Hi,
Somehow I cannot watch hevc files on JRiver.
JRiver try to open them but the program closes down.
I was able before on previous versions (I cannot tell which one) and I’m still able to watch them using vlc or Windows media player.
I changed the settings to red October standard but I didn’t make any difference.
Thanks,
O

Hi,
Are Hevc files supported?.
Is just me who cannot watch them?.
Is there something I can try/do?.
Thanks again,
O

I can watch HEVC (h.265).  I did some UHD Bluray rips that are HEVC, and they played back poorly, so I enabled hardware accelerated video, and it plays back nice now...however, I assume you would need a GPU that supports HEVC.  I use a GTX960, and various GTX 1050's with no issues.

Hi O,  MC has no problems with being able to decode HEVC... but it is a pretty intensive operation.  What are the specs for your PC (CPU/GPU)?  As musicman said, turning on HW Decoding may help if you have a weak CPU but a modern GPU.

Hi,
Many thanks for your answers.
Pc is a nuc i5-5250u with 8gb ram and a ssd hd. I believe it has a intel hd graphics 6000.
Hardware accelerate video recording is on.
It doesn’t make a difference what Red October I use.
The Nuc is used exclusively for JRiver.
Last version  24.41 64bit of JRiver.
I do believe at certain point I was able to watch some of those files.
The files are not UHD, some of them not even proper HD, not big files.
When you try to open them, JRiver tries for a second or so before closing down.
Thanks,
Oscar

A good chance is that your video driver has changed. I would suggest to try re-installing the latest video driver straight from Intel - not through Windows Update.

Hi,
Thanks for your help.
Unfortunately after downloading and installing the driver from Intel, JRiver shows the same behaviour.
Any other suggestions?.
