Difference between Lipsync and A/V sync
« on: September 08, 2018, 03:18:26 am »

Is there a functional difference if one uses the lipsync functionality in Theatre Mode and the A/V sync function under Options->Video->Advanced?

The only difference that I'm aware of is that "Options->Video->Advanced" are global settings used for all video files with matching display rates (24, or 50, 60, 120 Hz) while the Lipsync functionality available through the OSD menu is a file by file adjustment, with the setting selected stored in the [Playback Info] tag.

The tag looks something like below when a lipsync adjustment has been made, and doesn't include lipsync info when no adjustment has been made. There may also be other file specific playback info in the tag.

(1:2)(15:LipSyncOffset24)(3:100)(13:LipSyncOffset)(3:-80)

This was for a 23.98 fps video playing at 60Hz on my MC Client PC display, with a -80 ms adjustment, which I think was also played on my HTPC at 23.98 fps with a 100 ms adjustment. So the numbers make some sense.
