JRiver Buffering - Odd Behavior - HELP!
« on: September 23, 2018, 01:03:00 pm »

Playing multi-channel FLAC files.

JRiver will go through an inordinate amount of "Buffering".  It doesn't do this with any other files, including hi-res 192/24.  Multichannel are at 96/24.

I have checked and CPU never goes above 18% and bandwidth over ethernet never goes about 2mpbs on a Gigabit ethernet connection.  I see the same issue if the file is local or on the NAS.

Any ideas?

Maybe that's a problem that Ethernet utilization does not go beyond 2mbps

michahael123 just may be on to something here....if you have added a extra switch that's not capable of passing the files at a faster speed or your router itself is only 10/100 ur gonna need to replace either or the ethernet wires them selves are slow or I'm way off base here and should just read posts at my age....ya never know hey  ;D

Not the problem as the switch is a gigabit switch and when playing simple stereo at 44.1/16 it is hitting up to 10mbps.

Any other ideas?

This has got to be a software error when dealing with Multi-Channel files!

Might be helpful if you could give more detail about your setup, OS. How many channels for your multichannel flac files? How are you connecting to your output device etc.

Any thoughts would help!

What are your settings in DSP studio for ouput format - is the number of channels set to four, or same as source?

Can you play blu-ray or other high bandwidth video from files on the NAS?  The switch doesn't know the difference between FLAC files and a video file.  Point to point bandwidth bits is bits.

If there's not enough bandwidth for some reason to pass your flac, you'll have problems with video too...  If video is fine, look to software...

OP says this happens with local files as well as NAS, so it doesn't seem to be a network issue
