Hello;

I am using JRiver v24.0.60 64-bit running on Windows 10 Pro v1803, updated with the latest Microsoft patches, drivers etc.

I have a ripped DVD, which I ripped a year ago or so using AnyDVD, because the original DVD is a Region 1 DVD and I am not in a Region 1 Region. The ripped DVD is in my folder \\user\me\music\ripped DVD\

Until very recently I was able to view the ripped Concert DVD without a problem, which was in a previous built of MC. However, when I want to play the DVD now again it starts with:

"Adding required components......"
This process apparently is unsuccessful because after about 1/2 minute the following pop-up window appears:

quote

Playback problem
Something went wrong with playback.
Details:
Invalid audio decoder filter or output pin

unquote

I attempted to find the cause by using different audio drivers under Tools/Options, but to no avail. I also tested the video properties under Tools/Options. To no avail.

I ran the logging feature, which produced a logfile.  Since it's pretty long and it contains private information, I'll send the log file to "logs at jriver dot com".

I look forward hearing from the experts.

Sounds like MC tried to download the required components (LAV and madVR) but failed to do so, so the playback failed (they can't be played back without those components). Media Center 24 needs to be connected to the internet to download said components.

My guess? Your firewall and/or antivirus might be misbehaving. You might want to make sure Media Center 24 is excluded in your antivirus. Also with your firewall make sure inbound and outbound is allowed for Media Center 24 and see if that works.

The log does indeed confirm that download of the dependency failed. Did you re-try again a bit later incase there was a temporary internet problem or something of that sort?
Otherwise, make sure you are connected to the internet and Media Center is allowed through the firewall, as AD suggested.

I'll have a look at that. I'll particularly look at Windows Defender, to see if I had MC excluded or not. Stay tuned.

I'd recommend looking at the Windows Firewall settings in this case, as that is likely the culprit.

As suggested by all of you, I changed the setting of Windows Defender i.e. I added and pointed to JRiver Media Center 24.exe in the setting "Allow apps to communicate through Windows Defender Firewall". After I had done so, it noticed that Media Center 24 as well as "Media Center Extenders" had been added to the list of Programs that are allowed to communicate through Windows Defender Firewall.

No change to the situation.

I noticed that when I open JRiver Media Center and point to the folder with the rippted DVD, it first shows "working...." for 30 seconds or so and subsquently a pop up windows appears "Adding required component LAV Splitter", followed by "Adding required components......" and ending with the pop up window "Playback Problem - Something went wrong with playback. Details: Invalid audio decoder filter or output pin".

So, apparently this the Firewall is not the problem. I re-installed JRiver Media Center 24 about three times, but that also did not resolve the problem.

Should I uninstall JRiver Media Center, reboot, and install a JRiver Media Center again? Could this be of help? What do the experts think of this way going forward?

I look forward hearing from you. This symptom really is a nuisance.

In the windows security settings make sure that you have both the firewall and windows defender set to give notifications - you might then see what is being blocked from carrying out the download. The media center extenders are relevant to Windows media player, not to JRiver MC I think.

Do you have a slow or unstable internet connection, by any chance? This sounds like the type of problem my father used to run into when "Adding required components......".

My old workaround used to be to take his computer to my place, get the "required components" (they downloaded just fine there), then take the computer back to his house. I do not have to do this anymore, now that he has upgraded to a better internet connection. Fortunately, this is the type of thing I only had to do once per major version upgrade of JRiver MC.

So perhaps try using a different network, if possible. Or if you are connected via wifi, try using a direct ethernet cable connection to the home router, instead. At least, until you get the components loaded.

alglove, that's exactly what I wanted to try this weekend i.e. update it at a friend's residence from within my friend's network. The reason is, that on TWO computers on my network, the automatic update to MC 24 v24.0.060 recently failed.

I guess the components which it tries to download from the server where the components reside has a problem or conflicts with my IP Address.

Probably a firewall problem.

Well, I'm with my friend and I'm in the local network of my friend. Immediately started MC, pointed to the Ripped DVD drive, had to wait one second while it was downloading the components, et voilą, it worked and MC played the DVD Concert as expected. Finally.

So, for some reason, in my network, the components don't download from the server where the required components reside. It's definitely not a firewall problem. I guess the components probably have been moved to another server as of late? I guess that this server does not play well with my IP Address. Just my $0.02.

Would you PM me with your IP address so I can do some connectivity testing please?

Awesome Donkey;
I have a question: which components of LAV Filters are required for downloaded? There are three:
Audio
Splitter
Video

I guess, Splitter Filter is a must, because the error message referred to Splitter. But to the Audio and Video LAV Filters also to be downloaded and installed?

Please advise.

Thank you Hendrik;

I downloaded LAV filters 64-bit v0.73.1, which includes Splitter, Audio and Video. From the readme file I conclude that Splitter should be installed, but in some specific cases the Audio and/or Video batch files should be installed instead (my words).

That explains why I raised the question.

It seems to work fine. The connection isn't super awesome on latency but is reasonable.
I'm concluding that the path isn't an issue.

Bob, today  it was found out, that my connection indeed was not very good. It appeared that Swisscom, the Swiss ISP, had set a wrong configuration. After the setting the configuration correctly, the down- and upload speed changed to 50 Mbps, symmetric, so download and upload are the same. I checked it out on speedtest.net Before they were download @19.5 Mbps and upload @4.5 Mbps :-(, which I found out with speedtest.net as well. The test should be carried out from a computer, directly connected to one of the RJ45 ports of the router.

This may have been the cause.

Thanks for testing at your end and your feedback.
