Some Unexpected "Playing Now" Behaviors and Apparent Bugs
« on: November 26, 2018, 11:37:01 am »

Have run across a few unexpected things in Playing Now. (Windows 10, 24.0.60 x64)

All of these are being done while looking at a split view, with the Playing Now Overview in one section and an audio view in the other.

1) Options -> General -> Behavior -> "Start playing when files added to Playing Now" setting is respected when right-clicking a file and choosing "Add to Playing Now", but not when in split view dragging a file from a view directly into a Playing Now list. In the latter case, the files are added to the list, but do not begin playing.

2) Dragging a file from an audio view to a Playing Now list works as expected when dropping the file in the list section. If, however, the drop happens in the header section of the Playing Now list (the area where the album cover is shown while playback is happening), it behaves differently in three ways:

    a) The drop target cursor appears as a "shortcut" cursor icon rather than a "copy" cursor icon. This doesn't really matter to me, but I don't see why it would be different.
    b) Upon dropping the file(s), they don't go straight in the list, but a menu appears asking whether I'd like to Play, Add to Playing Now, or Cancel. Again, this isn't a hindrance, but I'm not sure of the reason for the difference between dropping above or below a line that is invisible on an empty Playing Now list.
    c) Much more importantly, when dropped in the upper section of a particular Playing Now list, the file doesn't go to the Playing Now list it is dropped on. It goes to whichever one is current instead.

3) (Remembering we're in a split view, with an audio view on one side and a Playing Now Overview in the other) clicking anywhere in an audio file list, then clicking anywhere in one of the Playing Now lists causes the current zone to change- even if you click in the currently selected zone. For instance, with 2 zones, and Zone 1 the current zone, single-click on any file, then click anywhere in the Zone 1 Playing Now list. Unexpectedly, Zone 2 becomes current. It seems that no matter which zone you click on, whether the current one or another, the zone changes, in many cases changing away from the zone that was clicked on. In fact, it looks like it might even be changing more than once, because it seems like it is flashing to one thing and then immediately switching to something else. The only time it works, sort of, as expected, is if you click on the zone title at the top-- but even then, it looks like it is switching away and then really quickly switching back again. This is kind of a pain in the neck, because you can imagine the following occurring regularly:
    a) Add some files to Zone 1 and start playing.
    b) Browse through other files, maybe add a few more.
    c) Click an individual file in the Zone 1 Now Playing list to delete it.
    d) Go back to adding more files...but without noticing that your current zone has inexplicably been changed from Zone 1 to some other zone, so the next file you add will likely get sent to the wrong zone.
