Automatic "Properties Cleaning" Feature?
« on: May 23, 2003, 04:25:30 pm »

hello

i love the "clean properties" music library tool, and i use it to lowercase everything in the tags and filenames.  when i import new files to the library, is there any way to have it automatically clean them as they're imported, or do i have to go through and do it manually?

this is obviously not a big deal, i just thought it would be nice if the program could automatically clean and monitor the library properties.

also, is there a way to have media center go through your library and delete entries with invalid paths?  i've been changing lots of file names and file structures, and i find it very irritating to have the same albums in there twice with two different file locations, one if which is obsoleted.

considering how brilliantly engineered the program is, there are probably already ways to do both of those things, i just haven't found them.

if anybody could either help me learn to do those things or consider those ideas, i would be very appreciative.  :)

regards,

patrick

excellent ;D  many thanks.

also, although i might be pushing it, is it possible to use media center to rename folders that hold my albums, or do i have to do that in windows and then re-import the albums to reflect the new folder names?

you can use rename

and select [X] dirs and select a mask

file name and then a mask

and MC9 will move them to the mask

so maybe like

c:\My Music\ArtistName\AlbumName\

i currently Have Mine by year

C:\My Music\1940\Filename.mp3
C:\My Music\1941\Filename.mp3
etc....
C:\My Music\2002\Filename.mp3
etc....

and MC will allow you to move and rename at the same time..

thanks again for the continued patience and help. :)

i just tried using the directories part of the rename tool, and it worked great to move the files.

i wanted to have it sort of by year too, and i've been putting all of the albums in one folder, with a seperate folder for each album named with the following rule:

artist - (year) - album title

obviously, that's not one of the options offered with the rename directory thing.  is there a way for me to add that one as a custom, or should i just choose one of the available ones and forget what i was trying to do?

[ARTIST]\[YEAR]\[ALBUM]

should be for the dir just type it in or modify the rules in the combo box

it might be better to use, normaly an artist will not put out that many songs per year and this way would use less dirs.

[YEAR]\[ARTIST]\[ALBUM]

If you actually want to set your filenames to artist - (year) - albumtitle rather than artist/year/album then set the mask to [ARTIST] - ([YEAR]) - ALBUM
