YADB improvement
« on: May 15, 2003, 05:24:16 pm »

I improved the YADB fuzzy match algorithm (available with 9.0.174 or later only). It may take a little longer, but should find more CDs.

If you have a CD it doesn't find, please let me know here.

WOW John!  Great work.
I've got this stack of CDs that have been building up in a pile next to my computer waiting to be ripped.  I've been putting it off because it is the dreaded "Not in the YADB Database" pile.  I just downloaded .174 and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM was found, including some really obscure ones!  Yep, it took a few seconds longer but who cares.
What an improvement!

Thanks,
Ken

That's excellent news - I'll give it another go.

I've been having so many problems with YADB - MC9 crashing completely when I accept an offer of one of the alternatives found by YADB, MC9 crashing to the desktop when I "cancel" after YADB hasn't found a match (which has been over 50% of the time) - that I've been using other ripping software.

Trouble in Paradise:
When a CD is not found, the handy submission form pops up.  I've done four of these now and each one has been rejected.  Of course, then all that typing is lost and I have to re-enter the same data into the tags after ripping.

I am seeing the same problem...

I can't fix it from home. It'll be fixed in the next build.

Thanks again for pointing it out.

While your working on YADB,
Any chance of adding a feature like WMP9 has so we can search for albums that aren't found either by album name or artist name so when we make compilations and they dont show because they're home burnt and therefore not identical, we can just do a search for the album to retrieve it's data rather than having to type it all in?

Hi Nila,

Use the "lookup track info" feature.

Yes it is slower. Seems a long time to wait only to get that ugly "cd not found" message. Is it possible to have a choice (as in the "get coverart from internet" feature) beetween a swift mode and a slower but more sensitive one?

Hi John :)

Does that work even when the mp3 has been burnt to cd and therefore converted to .cda format?

Also - the downside of that is that the db will have to have the information for each individual track to match it whereas the other way it will match it just if it has the album info :)

Barring a "allways try fuzzy" configuration switch...

Perhaps if the the strict match fails (for images or yadb) MC could put up a dialog box that says something along the lines of "sorry, exact match not found, try fuzzy? [yes][no]"

Just a thought.

Sometimes you sort of know it isn't in the DB. You just want a quick shot at it anyway, just in case.

kind of like taking a test, just fill out answer 1 and leave the rest blank?

Billy Bob: but Mr Bill (teacher) i just wanted to see if i knew the answer and if i get that one right i must know the answers to the rest of the test.

Teacher: Bill Bob Go Set In The Cloke Room (I was in there allot when i was in school) maybe thats why i like to stay in the closet, I feel safe In the closet.

Gateley:

It would be nice if you could scan the FreeDB database for new cd's from time to time and include the new info into the YADB database.
