I recently purchased a Denon x4400H AVR, which I then returned for a Martantz SR7013.  Both had some issues with JRiver.  The Marantz has bigger issues.  It seems the problems are due to the HEOS app that comes with the Denon and Marantz AVRs (they're the same company).  It seems HEOS just does not "play nice" with JRiver.  For years, I was happy streaming music to my old Onkyo with no real problems (other than I could play gapless).  Trying to use JRiver with the Marantz via DLNA is a nightmare.  In the meantime, I've just been using the HEOS app, which works fine but has a terrible user interface -- you have work through multiple levels to get to anything.  I even tried using Roon on a trial version -- it was pretty cool and I liked how it combined Tidal and my local files -- but it was very slow and buggy with the Marantz, too.  At this point, it looks like my only option is to replace the Marantz or build a little HTPC to serve hi res music directly to the AVR.  Or I could just live with HEOS, though I hate to give up JRiver and JRemote.

Also, now I am wondering about the best way to get music in multiple rooms. 

Has anybody else been having compatibility issues using JRiver with a newer Denon or Marantz?

I just bought a Denon AVR-X4500H and also have problems trying to play DSD files and using a USB Stick. Perhaps I will be able to solve these issues soon. I use the iFi microDSD BL which is 30 Feet away in another room and I use a DTI Dual transformer to eliminate noise and ground loops.

I connect the transformers output to the CD input on the receiver and play DSD Stereo files this way. But looks like the Denon receiver has an AKM  processor which in theory could be better than the Burr Brown in the iFi. That's why I am trying to get the Denon to play DLNA (Bitstream) for the DSD.

I did not have these problems with the Onkyo TX-NR838 which I replaced.

DLNA is just not reliable enough to do what you're trying. I've been messing with it for years and have found the best option is what you suggested, buy a small HTPC like an INTEL NUC or JRiver's Id and connect it directly to your Marantz. I have done this with an HP, Lenova, and Mac Mini. Your Marantz has an awesome DAC, so a digital connection like HDMI works great.

I've been running a Marantz SR7012 amp with my JRiver server for a while and do not find any particular problems.
Gapless playback works well.
HiRes files FLAC 192k 24bit stream without issue.
DSD files stream without problem.

My only complaint is the lack of support for streaming multi-channel files, which seems odd for a multi-channel amplifier.

Schooner what in particular are you having issues with?

Rather than deal with DLNA to a receiver, try to find an old Oppo 103 or 105 blu-ray player as it can be used as a DLNA renderer via ethernet (or if needed wi-fi).  This player is quickly seen by J River and can pull files from it or send to it.   It works quite well once you configure the media server portion--I've even played DTS and video 3D files (3D MVC converted to m2ts) successfully that way.  As a bonus you can stream high-resolution video as well.

I have an Oppo 203 connected to my Marantz and it works well as a renderer, particularly for video.
It supports FLAC up to 192k 24bit INCLUDING multichannel files.
It also supports DSD again including multichannel and will pass these as DSD onto my Marantz.
BUT it does NOT support gapless over DLNA.

Do the 103 or 105 support gapless?
If there was a way of making my 203 play gapless over DLNA it would be perfect to me.
Or if the Marantz supported multichannel then that would be even better.

anyone got Heos Homecinema soundbars or Heos 1s and get them working with MC25? I might take the plunge and purchase MC25 soon (next month). I hope I can get mine working with that. I'll let y'all know.

I have a HEOS AVR, 2x HEOS 5 as back surround speakers and added 2x HEOS1 to the group. Playing music from MC25win directly to the HEOS AVR will play it on all speakers in the group.

No problems there.
Stil have to try movies and all other options.

I've been using MC since v11 on and off and now trying out v25 since my latest active use was with v21.
Intention is to run the Linux version in a docker on a sinology eventually.
