Sony NetMD
« on: May 09, 2003, 09:03:06 am »

I downloaded Media Jukebox 9.0 and i've been mailing and advertising Media Jukebox 9.0 on my website only thing that most of my mates and i personally want is support for Sony NetMD as we persoanlly dont like using Sony's OpenMG or SonicStage as they are very poorly developed/programmed. Is there going to be support for Sony NetMD as then we shall buy a copy of it?

Thanks for your support.  What do you want from MC?  Does the Sony show up as a removable drive?

We get zero cooperation from Sony, so letting them know might help.

I was wondering if MC would develop a plugin or add support so that my Sony NetMD (MiniDisc) would show up and i would be able to transfer my music files from my PC to NetMD also all the music files need to be converted from their original format to ATRAC3 format also Sony does not support transfers from NetMD to PC

I believe that ATRAC is proprietary with Sony.  We can't write it unless Sony helps and, so far, they won't.

Jim, I too would love MC to support minidiscs but i think you're right, its proprietary. Although, i remember that i've seen somwhere in the docs or on the net that RealPlayer [appologies for mentioning] supports it.

Personally, the NetMD it the most dissapointing toy i've ever bought becasue if its supporting s/w. I never managed to get it working at all with XP so have given up with it.

Cheers, jj.

The major problem with Sony's NetMD player is that it has some strict security checks.

Music has to be "checked out" and "checked in" to the same computer that it came from. A song can only be "checked out" three times before at least one copy is checked back in again... Reminds me of a public library.

Bit of a bore. Their software is BLOATED and requires more graphical power to run than most 3D rendering games (ok, perhaps I exagegrate, but the games do have much better response times!).

I use MC for everything (PL management etc.) and then simply drag and drop into OpenMG to upload... Not great, but it works.
