If you're fully done with US politics you may want to skip this thread.
I was confused at first when the "Trump crisis of the day" occurred with the Democrats starting the impeachment process of Trump over the Ukraine phone call/whistleblower. Biden had done something similar by withholding funding to get his son a lucrative post.
I then read this -
https://uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?req=(title:52%20section:30121%20edition:prelim) The link above has to do with Contributions and donations by foreign nationals. It makes it pretty clear that what Trump did is in violation of the law. Unless one were to interpret the $400M in military aid as a payment. In that case I'm sure that would be covered under another law. What Biden did, though likely just as bad morally, isn't illegal under this law.
Now the POTUS is calling for China to investigate the Bidens. Isn't that too a violation of the linked law above? Just because it is done publicly doesn't make it ok. WTH is he doing, doubling down? Isn't this just giving the impeachment investigation more fuel?
It makes for great theater. The Republicans and Democrats have consistently shown themselves to be in support of the laws as long as it doesn't apply to someone in their own party. Then it is aways Party over Country. Because of that I don't see how the impeachment process will ever evolve to the point of removing the POTUS from office, it is just theater.
The American public is dissatisfied with government. Yet the politicians they elect are the government. And the electorate re-elects congress members and senators at over 95% reelection rate. Politicians campaign on a platform of change. Yet the politics never change, the public just reelects, and then complain about the system.
