Using JRiver with Apple Sidecar Application
« on: November 26, 2019, 05:51:40 pm »

I currently use JRiver MC25 on a 2018 Mac Mini. I use it for listening to 2 channel AIFF files only, most of which are 16 bit 44.1k. I am considering getting an iPad Pro to use as a monitor and need to know if the Sidecar application which is part of the Apple Catalina operating system will work with the latest version of JRiver MC 25 for Mac. I would like to be able to have the same functionality remotely when operating JRiver, including the DSP functions, on the iPad Pro as I do when sitting at my desk using the mouse and keyboard. Any advice you can provide will be appreciated.

Sidecar doesn't really work the way I think you want it to. It doesn't provide any mouse-style input via the iPad's touch screen - it's pretty much "video output only" except for a keyboard tray that's kind of cumbersome. But there is definitely no way to "point and click" (via tapping on the screen) on a UI element that appears on the iPad's screen and expect it to respond.

I use Luna Display for this purpose.
Works really well.
