Playing with Ratings
« on: April 28, 2003, 01:07:46 pm »

Hi MC fans,

I'm not really skilled at graphics but I tried playing with MC rating symbols. Here is what I did :

Stars rating

Notes rating

Thumbs rating

Keys rating

what do you think ?

Nice one C Magic.  I especially like the one with the treble clefs.

I like them, particularly the "Keys" and "Thumbs".  Feel free to make those little GIFs available.   :-*

Here they are in a zip file along some others such as :

Play rating

CD Rating

There's also a simple Smiley rating.
download here -> Right Click Here and Save As...
Unzip in ../Mega skins/... and rename as List_Rating.gif or edit main.xml <LIST> section.

C...

I have a problem with your rating of Pink Floyd's "Fat Old Sun"...only 3 CD's? Whaazzup with that? It's definetly 5 thumbs up.

edit: Ditto for "As Tears Go By"

10-27

PS: Nice work on the bitmaps...great idea...only 3 CD's?...C'mon

Xen,

The preceeding ratings are not "real life" ratings, they're just examples of course. As for me almost everything "Jagger/Richardsish" should be five !  :D

I think a pro graphics specialist can do some great stuff with graphical ratings.

I'm glad you like my little trials,

I wonder if they would have a way to add this to a plugin area and a way to install this as maybe a rating plug-in (sort of)

then users could create there ratings graphics and share them with others.

I created a couple versions too!

for optimistic ratings...

...and pessimistic ratings

note: cursor not shown (but it would have been on the last Metallica and the Bread tracks)

I'll modify this post and make both of the List_Rating.gif's available for DL'ing tomorrow.

Matt :-

Make this an option PRETTY PLEASE.

We're all bound at some point or other to copy and paste a new rating into the mega-me folder and over write the original one and then want it back later and find we've lost it.
Something as cool as this would be a GREAT thing to have on an options page where we can just go to a list of available graphics and choose which one we want to apply without having to go into explorer and copy and pate files etc.
Graphical ratings could be downloadable like mega-me skins that automatically install and that we can browse just like the skins.
You've already seen how cool it can look with different icons from these screen shots. It could take off as a big feature and a cool 'gimic' that would get a lot of people hooked and playing with.

Please please please make it as an easy to use option instead of us having to play around in explorer.
Prety please!!

Hi Nila,

Graphical Rating addicted ??  :D

I don't know about the best way to make this easily customizable. Maybe on a track or album or genre basis so that graphics can even change with the type of music.
For example hearts or flowers for love songs, piano for piano, stars for #1 in charts,  tongues for stones etc..

Anyway, let's be cool with Matt and the guys at JRiver, this could be for MC10 or MC11.

But, yes, that's fun !!

have a nice day.

My son just designed a new simple bar rating using the same blue colour as Pixos Megaskin.

Bar rating

And I also designed my own 'Bar' Rating, well I better say Wine Glass Rating..

A la vôtre ! Cheers ! Nazdrowie ! Skilt !

These are great !!

The only problem is they get overwritten every time I install the latest copy of MC.

Anyway of stopping this from happening ?

Thanks,

Mark

P.S. It would be great if these could use the Plug-in system.

yes

it is great people are playing with this, but it helps no one without the links to the graphics.

also if a link would be provided for all the ones users can come up with a plug-in (might) could be made. that would allow for the selected one to be copied to the correct dir when the user loads up MC9 since a mode=1 plugin gets loaded when mc9 loads up

and maybe\also a auto rotation of of the graphics could be done.

just some ideas, and i don't think it would be that hard.

Hi retrospek,

Quote
The only problem is they get overwritten every time I install the latest copy of MC.

An easy way : Just copy the megaskin directory you like under a new name. For example I  copied the "Pixos" Dir and named it "My Pixos". I then added my prefered graphics in there. Your customized megaskin will appear as a new skin in the skin manager and in the megaskin dialog during the installation of a new version of MC.

King,
Sorry, here they are all in one zip file --> Right Click and Save as... file Fun_MC_Ratings.zip

'auto rotation' of ratings graphics would be nice...

Hope this helps,

C.
